Somthing that really bothers me with movies made on FCEUX is the color pallet is too bright. compared to bizhawk and console, this is what Dirty Harry (for example) looks like: FCEUX: Bizhawk: Console: as you can see, bizhawk is much more accurate to console than FCEUX is. now there is an option in FCEUX that can change the pallet. Under "Config->Pallet", you can check a box that says "NTSC Color emulation". checking the box gives you these comparsons: FCEUX (with NTSC color emulation enabled): Bizhawk: Console: while it's not entirely the same, you can still see it looks much better and more accurate to console. I also think you can edit the pallet a bit to change up the colors a bit. with this said, I'd like to know if this has ever been discussed before in regards to publications, this is also unlikely to affect sync (and it would be extremely stupid if it did), so I dont see why we cant use it. Thoughts?

Smooth (FBX) palette is the best palette I've seen for NTSC. This screenshot is from Nestopia but using this palette, it will be the same in FCEUX and BizHawk (and Mesen and other emulators)...

this looks decent enough. however I'd like to see what it might look like for gameplay.

I haven't really paid that much attention to color differences between emulators, but this is the best resource I know of on the topic: http://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/PPU_palettes

[13:12:54] <feos> zeromus: what was the background behind fceux palette again? http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21392 [20:27:42] <zeromus> feos, there is no background behind fceux palette. it was chosen a long time ago due to someone's feelings. dont debate with people about palettes. you can choose whatever palette you want in every nes emulator.

ok, so should we use a standard pallet or keep using the default ones for the emulators?

The only thing I remember is that NTSC palette doesn't look so green and dirty when you watch a real console on a TV: it's warmer and nicer, dunno how it works. Then of course NTSC means "never the same color", so it's impossible to establish one true most accurate palette for all.
