This is an improvement to the published movie by Inzult. The total improvement is 6 seconds. Here it is broken down per level:
  • Title Screen & Name: 44 frames
  • Level 1: 7 frames
  • Level 2: 68 frames
  • Level 3: 20 frames
  • Level 4: 5 frames
  • Level 5: 117 frames
  • Level 6: 88 frames
Most improvements were made simply through more precise turns with the help of frame advance.

Hmm... Have you watched the Genesis version? Granted, I don't know how similar they are, but there are a few tricks in that run that I would guess could be done on the NES version, but again, I'm not sure. However, the name screen can be done faster...left on one frame, up on the next, A on the third, instead of going down from G to End. This I did get to work myself. On the plus side, one less Famtasia movie. I'll wait for a reply before voting here. Edit: Falling is definitely different in the NES version, as far as I can tell. I'll still wait for a reply, to be sure.

unfortunately you are right about Name screen. I tried it and that would save an additional 32 frames. Doh! I don't know why I didn't see that. I probably won't redo it just for a faster title screen, at least not unless something else were discovered. As far as the Genesis version goes, none of the cool shortcuts and tricks can be done on the NES version. For one, you can't get as much distance when going off of a ramp or cliff. In the Nes version you immediately begin falling straight down. Also, you can't fall very far with out breaking the marble. In addition, the scrolling on the NES is very slow and if you get too far ahead you die. On several levels I had to slow down and let the screen catch up with me. On the Genesis they fixed the scrolling so that it is much faster.

Hahaha man that is goofy. Ok then despite the name screen I am still voting yes because six seconds is a good improvement. Perhaps it's possible to do the name screen and then hex-edit the rest of the run to 32 frames earlier...but depending on how the game works, desyncs are a possibility.

ok, I just tested the shortcut at the end of the silly maze and got it to work. I was unable to before due to a misunderstanding on my part. I forgot that gravity is reversed in this level and that you roll up instead of down. Compensating for that I managed to do it. So I am definately redo-ing this run now. I should be able to knock another second off of the time.

Also, I got the hex-editing to work. Trying to upload it somewhere now with no success...but you may want to get that run and finish the last level from it. Edit: Emailed the hex-edited run to you.

Awesome. I thought the last run was pretty much perfect. I can't believe you took almost 2 seconds off one of the levels. I voted Yes before reading the discussion, but I look forward to your revised version. This is turning out to be a pretty good week. A lot of my favorite runs are being bested.
