For once again, a new run of Kung Fu that ends 55 frames faster than my last submission. A very small update, in fact the smallest update ever for this game. Knowing how to proceed ended up saving a few frames, and the time saved was mostly due to a change in precision. Even running through this game again didn't take very long this time around and the differences are hardly noticeable, but perfection is above anything else and that is why I have decided to submit this run; faster is better. :)
Some complained of desync, but I assure you for most the movie works just as it is supposed to.
Thanks to Foda, DeHacked, others, and Bisqwit for supporting me as I worked hard on this run.

Nice to see you're still active. The movie looks good. Although the difference to previous version is minimal, it's noticeable. Good job.

Thank goodness this run is being submitted by the author of the last run. I couldn't take another 8 pages of debate. Argh. In level 5 Thomas stops moving forward, gets surrounded by knife throwers and gets owned. Ow, my emulator! I haven't been able to get this movie to not desync.

I have the same problem as hopper. On the two first levels, isn't it possible to take more damage to save time in the health countdown? You seemed to do this later.

it would take too long to take damage to pay off in the end. Especially in level one, where enemies slowly drain your health. In the later levels taking damage is used to cancel Thomas' attack/pause animation so that he can attack faster.

It had over 300 views, which is more than most. And since nobody did it, I'd say that says something good about the users here. In this sense, I'd say it was successful.

Maybe a game that hasn't been published yet, with a big name on it, maybe mario kart for example would have been a better choice for this objective.

Maybe an explanation of the real objective of this submission would be a good idea, too. I think Deviance underestimated how well-known this game is for it's frame-by-frame competition value. In that sense, some of the more obscure titles, such as Wrath of Black Manta, would have been better.

here goes: This run was a trap. The point was to catch any vote abusers who automatically vote yes to any small improvement. As you can probably tell, bisqwit, foda and a few others were in on it too. Taking the first letter of every sentence in the first paragraph of the submission text pretty much spells it out: Fake. The run is also named as version zero. As for game choice, this was difficult. Something too popular like might get too many complaints to work, and something too obscure might not even get enough views to begin with. As for kung fu, my reasoning was that the game is repetitive and that a 55 frame improvement might not even be worth watching for some, so it might tempt them to click yes. This would actually be the first frame improvement of this game, as all the rest have been improvements through time units. Additionally, I wanted to choose a short game so that those who actually spend time analyzing the run won't waste too much of their time. I personally think that the smb2 thread has made everyone a little more careful, so maybe it was a timing issue. There are three yes votes; one is mine, I believe the second is Foda, and I'm not sure about the third. The fact that nobody abused the voting here after 300+ views is good news, at least to me. If nothing else this will serve as a deterrent.

It was a stupid trap because technically someone could vote yes without violating any site rules, so people who fall for the trap aren't necessarily abusing the voting system.
Never vote based on expectations! Always view the movie (at least part of it) before voting.
See, the rules even say that it's ok if you don't watch the whole thing. Anyway, I didn't watch the run until after I read Deviance's post so of course I didn't fall for it. :) I don't know if I would have fallen for it if I watched the run when it was first posted. I probably wouldn't have fallen for it because it was kind of obvious that it wasn't a desync and the movements he made after stopping were intentional. Edit: Btw, how did the first 4 levels of this run compare to the run currently on the site? Were they really faster?

I think the "at least part of it" is there for really bad movies. In some cases, you can tell within the first few minutes that the person who made the movie has no idea what he or she was doing, so you can safetly vote no.

I think bobwhoops addressed this well, and if it isn't clear in the rules then maybe the wording should be changed slightly. Besides, the rules state that you should vote based on the site guidelines, and this run violates practically all of them.

It could all have been coincidence. It's easy to say that in hindsight. :P
Btw, how did the first 4 levels of this run compare to the run currently on the site? Were they really faster?
when did I say they were faster? I simply said that this run "ends" 55 frames faster than the current run, which is entirely true. :)

I agree with Michael. I had my doubts that this was a desync, because Thomas was walking right instead of left. In a desync he would have missed a kick, kept walking left towards the end boss, and gotten owned. Instead he stayed where he was, fought enemies and jumped knives, and then the movie stopped. The other reason I was skeptical is because I've never had a desync in a NES movie before. I was willing to give you guys the benefit of the doubt that either it really was a desync, or that you had submitted the wrong/a damaged or corrupt file and would notice and correct the error when I brought it to Deviance's attention. I wasn't very surprised when I found out that this was fake, though I did screw with a LOT of settings in FCEU trying to get it to not desync.

Well, I didn't vote yes for the last improvement of SMB since I think it should be the fastest possible on each level, regardless of a frame cap for each level. It just looks worse to me, so the 3 frames wasn't worth it, and I just didn't vote (and definately didn't throw away the old version). For this, I didn't see it until the secret was given away. I never played this game and never even saw any run of it before, so it wouldn't have voted regardless. I think I vote for about 1/3rd of all runs I watch, and comment on even fewer. But I always watch the run, and if it doesn't work for me, I just wait to see if it gets accepted. Because if it's worth seeing, it probably will.
