  • Emulator used: FCE Ultra 0.98.12-blip.
  • Aims for the fastest possible time.
  • Length of movie: 98195 frames (27m 17s).
Well, what can I say about this movie? First of all, the planning to a lot more time than the execution itself for this movie, and I mean a lot. Of course, the rooms get harder and harder, so the last levels, especially the Castle levels, took quite some planning to do. This run was really fun to do, and I hope you think it's as fun watching!
Of course, I tried to do every room as fast as possible, but since this is my first run on this game, it's possible that I've missed a thing or two. If you find anything, please let me know, it's likely that I will do another version if there are lots of stuff that can be done faster.
Special thanks to:
Bag of Magic Food: For great tactics on floor 1 and 2, I use his strategys on almost every room on floor 1 and 2.
Baxter: For strategy on room 2-5, and for pointing out the mistakes in the first WIP. Thanks! :)
Tom 'rdrunner' Votava: For his speedrun on Speed Demos Archive, a lot of inspiration and ideas are from his speedrun.

Thank you! I've discussed this submission some on the IRC channel with Bag and Baxter, and we've found ways to improve this by at least 10 seconds. I'm gonna see if there are more ways to improve this, but there will likely be a new version coming soon. But I'm glad you liked it :)

Do you think there should also be a run of the Pro levels?

Well, they would be interesting to watch, but I don't think a run through the pro levels would be accepted. But if people are interested I could try it out, just for fun, and post a link to the fcm. Even though the pro levels are really hard :)

What are the pro levels? That's something I haven't heard of. Thus, I personally is very interesting in seeing them.

They're levels you can play by typing PROA, PROB, PROC, and PROD as passwords. Beating one just sends you back to the title screen, though. Another password the game doesn't mention is CSTM, which lets you set up the buttons for the special abilities.

Cool! I had no idea. Well, how bout playing them after the regular game ends? I'd vote yes on that. Or before maybe, so one could stop the movie when it ends.

Those are possibilities. But I think a separate movie would be better, in case someone wants to see only the pro levels or only the regular quest.

Just because there seems to be some interest in this... :) Here's a taste: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/213/Lolo2_pro_levels.fcm This is PRO A, it's very hard and complex, pulling this off on console is super-hard. I'll probably do the other PRO levels in a near future. But seriously, if I was to make a run of the PRO levels alone, do you think I should submit it?

I've finshed my first version of the PRO levels run. Current time is 3m 29s. You can get it from the same URL as before, http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/213/Lolo2_pro_levels.fcm I'm pretty happy with PRO levels A, B and C, though on level D, You'll see that I have to wait for several seconds to trap the two enemies. If I don't trap them, I don't think it's possible to beat that level, somehow I have to get them out of the way, and I don't have enough shots to shoot them. If someone has any idea how to solve this without having to wait like I do right now, let me know. Oh, and the reason I don't move when waiting on that room, is because if I move, I'll change the enemies movement, which I don't want, since I want them trapped. Anyway, If I could skip waiting on room PRO D, I could probably cut down the time to around 3:20. Though I don't think the other levels are that improvable. All I really wanted to say was that feel free to comment this PRO level run, or this submission itself too for that matter. :)

I don't think you can get it from the same URL, I think you meant this one: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/215/Lolo2_pro_levels.fcm Since the other one only plays the first level.

Yes, you're right Baxter. I thought that since I uploaded the file with the same filename, it would replace the old one. But on the other hand, now everyone can enjoy both my uploaded pro run movies, should someone find that interesting. So to everyone who wants to see the whole PRO levels run, see Baxter's link.

I know you probably didn't try to totally optimize the pro run - but just to show off a bit, Pro B can be done considerably faster (a little over 500 frames). http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/220/Lolo2-PROB.fcm My version isn't particularly optimized either, but you can see the idea.

Nice... 500 frames is a lot! Can't really say much else, since already mentioned your version is improvable aswell, which I think is true... nice though.

I really liked the full movie. And the pro levels just rocked. A YES vote on the full movie of course. If someone submits the pro levels I think those should get accepted as well.

Nice job on PRO B, Slotermeyer, I never thought of that. :) And your right that my PRO run is far from optimized, it was more of a beta run, to see how fast it could be done. I'm still pretty sure that PRO D can be done considerable faster too. Anyway, it's nice that so many people liked the full run. Thanks for the YES vote, Highness. :) If someone manage to improve PRO D now, so there's no wait in it, I think the PRO run is submit material.

This is how I do it on the console.

Ooh, really nice. Pulling that off on console must be pretty hard, I guess. Thank you, that should really come in handy. Thanks for all of the tips everyone, I'm working on an improved PRO levels run now, using all these newly found tricks. it should be a lot faster. EDIT: Just redid PRO B, it's now 683 frames faster than before. It's also 173 frames faster than hanzou's version, due to some minor changes. I'll post the WIP one I finish PRO C. EDIT 2: I've redone PRO B and PRO C now, using Slotermeyer's and hanzou's strategies. Here's how it turned out: Old version: PRO A: 3782 frames PRO B: 2331 frames PRO C: 721 frames New version: PRO A: 3782 frames PRO B: 1640 frames (691 frames faster) PRO C: 491 frames (230 frames faster) In total 921 frames faster. As some of you have noticed, I've been workinng with an improved version together with hanzou for some time now, but I didn't think it would get completed in the near future. But it turned out that it will be done quite soon, in fact I believe that it'll be done within 2 weeks. Therefor, I'm cancelling this in favor of this improved version. It'll be around 3 minutes faster. So, for further discussion about this run and the game itself, refer to: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3029 Thanks for the good feedback though! If you liked this run, you'll really like this new one! :)
