Ok now.. I keep watching the one done by Tokushin and realized that there should be a better one done. So, this will be a huge project by me, but i am willing to do it. I figured i would start the topic now to get some idea's and game plans of how to do it. And when there are new idea's that are good, i will edit this post and put them here. Please post with any idea's/Tips you may have. I will look at Genisto's Glitchfest to get some entertainment idea's if they do not slow me down. FODA has brought up the idea to not use the start/end with small mario goal. -Fastest Completion of all levels. -Use the (u) version of the rom. -Do NOT have the goal "Start/End with small mario" -No need to visit Unessessary Mushroom houses. -Use "through the wall" Techneques where possible. -Do NOT get Hammer Bros. suit to kill bowser, it waste time. Just use fire. -Pick up a couple frog suits to help with some water levels, if it saves time. -No fireworks. Going for total fastest time. -Not changeing to "P-wing" and lose time for entertainment. Strictly fastest time

Will it include beating all Hammer Bros / Pirahna Plants on the world map as well? Or will you make use of Music Boxes to skip them where possible? Do the 'Hand' levels in World 8 also count? It's been a long time since I watched the original all-level run of SMB3, perhaps I'll do that and keep an eye out for improvements.

Yes, i will beat all "On map" Hammer bros/Pirahna Plants. In world 8, i will defeat those "hand grabbing" levels too. Im not sure about using music boxes to skip them, then it is kind of like "not all levels"

I think starting off and ending with small mario, and doing ALL (except the monkey in level 2) levels, was partly done because it saves a lot of time on planning what power should be used where. I think it will be more interesting to see a "flute-less"-run, having no restrictions at all, besides actually using a flute. This would allow you to skip some really slow levels with a cloud, and some other levels can be skipped by music boxes, or a hammer. Don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled to see a 100% of the levels run aswell, but a "uses no warps" would be cool aswell... (if you do a 100% run, I'd say you would need to do everything, exept for the bonus levels, this means the hidden monkeys in level 2 aswell...)

Are you going to visit the hidden Mushroom House in the second world (the one where you need the hammer)? And what about every other Mushroom House, do you intend to go to them aswell? It would also be a great idea to turn one of the Hammer Bros to Treasure Ship. Baxter, what is the hidden monkey in level2? I've never heard of this.
Which run should I encode next? :)

After using the hammer at the top right of level 2, there is a monkey next to the mushroomhouse... You yourself called this a 'hidden mushroomhouse', so, with the same reasoning, I called it a 'hidden monkey'.

Maza: I do not think going to ANY mushroom house is necessary, unless maybe i get the frogsuit for some levels.

Well the one thing to check for that's not in Tokushin's run is exploitation of the duck-jump wall glitch. And as far as keeping powers, I would think the fire flower would be the default to keep for speed, except when flight would be needed. And since you're completing all levels, it would probably be worth it to get a Hammer Bros. suit somewhere to use on Bowser. It actually would be handy to use your run as reference in a no-warps not-100% run (which I'd like to do soon), seeing which levels take the most time to complete, and so forth. Are you starting this after Mega Man 3 or do you have other stuff to do between? Baxter: I think the confusion was in the "monkey" portion of the description.

You mean fire bros.? I admit they often do look more like monkeys than turtles. ^^ -hanzou

JXQ: I am planning to do this after i complete Megaman3. And by the time I get this planned out, i should have megaman3 done.

It might be worth it to grab a Frog Suit or two as well, if you're collecting items, as it would speed up some of those water worlds a lot. Not all of them, though, most water worlds do have a way to get around a lot of the swimming, but having at least one Frog Suit on hand may save some time. I'd also avoid getting the big bonuses at the end of levels, which the current 100% one doesn't avoid, the whole fireworks thing takes up a lot of time and it's not like you need the extra lives.

The getting fireworks at the end does show some entertainment. And keeps the watcher addicted to the screen. But ALWAYS getting stars is a bad choice. I may mix it around. What does everyone else think about this? -Not get fireworks+Animation or -Get 3 stars/mushrooms/flowers.

At least I don't find fireworks entertaining.

Yes, it would be nice idea to get once three of each (stars, mushrooms & flowers), but getting more of them? I don't think that's a good idea. Also don't take them in the very first levels. The first three card I'd most definitely get all different.

"You are impressive" bonus animations are interesting to see once or twice. Just don't do it every time. That's what principle I held in Kirby's Adventure as well.

I would vote for "no animation", my reasons being: 1) Most people who have played SMB3 have seen this animation at one point or another. 2) It takes somewhere like 6 or 7 seconds extra per animation. 3) The amount of slowing down required to get a mushroom / flower is very small. However, working on Sonic 1, there is a similar dilemma: getting under 30 seconds gives a much larger time bonus, which takes more time to count down. In that case, I'm not worrying about the extra countdown time because the waiting required is much more noticeable than the pause in jumping when getting a card at the end of a level in SMB3. In the end it is your decision! This is just my long opinion.

Are you going to use the Super P-Wing at some levels? You'll pick up quite a few of them (3 or 4) if you are going to do all the Hammer Bros. levels and it would be a shame to see them go to waste. It just depends on what levels you choose to use them on. Which levels would you use them anyway? To me, side-scrolling levels seem like an ideal choice since it eliminates waiting to make a jump or something, since you just fly at the top of the screen the whole time. You could add some entertainment by bouncing on enemies as you fly. That's what I think anyway.
Guybrush: "I'm selling these fine leather jackets." Wally: "Really?" Guybrush: "No. I 'm lying." Wally: "In that case, I don't want one!" Currently working on: Nothing at the moment.

I vote for NO fireworks at all. I don't think it's a good idea to "be as fast as possible with the exception of getting fireworks 3 times". I think there should be definite, accurate goals.

I think Mario is slower when flying than when running in this game.

The super P-Wing would be slow on most levels. Maybe i may use one on a screen scroller, depends on the situation for upcomming levels. Im not going to Switch from Fire-Flower to P-Wing if i need fire flower the next level. that waste time. And ill also agree with Kyrsimys. I will go for "Fastest" time, so that means fireworks waste time.

There's also the "super-black-and-white" mushroom houses, where you get special items, like the anchor or the cloud (and probably other cool stuff, too). I only know two levels where it's possible to get them: getting (nearly) all coins in 1-4 and getting all the coins (even ones resulting from the POW) in 2-2 (I think it's 2-2). They might be helpful, but at the very least, they look cool on the overworld map. And where it doesn't slow you down (i.e. get in your way on the overworld) it might be cool to make the coin ships appear (how to accomplish this was explained in another thread, I think; multiples of 11 and stuff).

If you're going for fastest time, then why are you wasting time selecting P-wings when you can do just as fast without one?

Doesn't it give you the fast running speed all the time?
