...or, instead of Mankey, Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard, Dugtrio, maybe Pidgey, Nidoran♂/Nidorino/Nidoking, Paras? Give Cut to Paras, Fly to Pidgey, Strength to Nidoking, heck, Nidoking can also learn Surf, so Squirtle may be a trade-off. With this you need 4 Poke Balls.

WIP http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/2241589680305031 Need assistance in catching a Mankey. I need the Pokemon to pop up in the first grass tile walked.

Nuzlocke seems a little pointless for a TAS. Its main effects are forcing you to play more cautiously (not a problem for a TAS, which can force enemies to miss if necessary), and limiting which Pokémon you can use (which basically just means route planning is less interesting). You're not going to actually use more than one of the mons you catch, except as HM slaves, because putting all the experience onto one Pokémon is the most efficient way to do it in first generation.

Anyone thinking about doing a Pikachu only run with: - No Glitches - 8 Gyms, Elite 4. - Can only use Pikachu in battle. I know this seems freaking impossible, but I think I would give it a shot after doing some Pokemon Ruby TAS runs. What could be more entertaining to watch beating Brock, Giovonni, and the Elite 4 with just Pikachu? If anyone could like, make a basic map of how this might all work, that would be great. If not, I'll just make one later on.

Technically, you can beat anything with any pokemon in RBY under TAS conditions, due to the 1/256 miss glitch.

Yeah I know, but I'm surprised no one has even suggested it yet. Maybe it's too annoying to do? lol

@Patashu: Against some enemies, there's the issue of running out of PP. In general, Pikachu's stats and typing are so bad that it's likely to need a bunch of grinding for experience in order to be able to finish the larger/more difficult battles solo. (Especially against rock/ground types.)

Yeah PP and stats are really holding it back. I would imagine you having to fight all of the Rival battles and then some just to get enough EXP.

Pikachu would have to be raised to Level 11 for it to learn Quick Attack before facing Brock. Give Pikachu Mega Kick after getting its TM. Have an HM slave (Pidgey Fly, Bulbasaur/Charmander/Bellsprout Cut, Squirtle/Lapras/any water type Surf+Strength) Give Pikachu Submission to fight the Rock-types, but watch your HP! Mega Kick and Submission can be bought at Celadon Dept. Store. So restore Pikachu's HP before facing Rock-types. If HP is in the red area, level up sound don't slow down gameplay if HP stays in the red area. learned move sequence: replace Growl with Quick Attack replace Tail Whip with Slam replace Thunder Shock with Thunderbolt replace Quick Attack with Submission replace Thunder Wave with Mega Kick replace Slam with Thunder If someone makes a Surfing Pikachu hack, it would make fighting rock-types and fire-types a cinch. --- I am making a run of Lei Dian Huang Bi Ka Qiu Chuan Shuo. That version doesn't have any of the glitches that this game has. I'll trade speed for entertainment. I'll catch a Mankey (level 5), get Focus Punch TM give to Mankey. Catch Caterpie or Weedle (level 6?), evolve via Rare Candy. Thunder Stone to evolve Pikachu into Raichu. Get Charmander, evolve into Charmeleon. Catch Diglett (level 25+), evolve into Dugtrio via Rare Candy. And get HM Flash. No HM slaves.

This sounds incredibly boring, even if Pikachu could steamroll through the game. The only noticeable ways that Yellow differs from Red and Blue are things that wouldn't really be seen in such a run (getting the Kanto starters, a different set of Pokémon available, etc.). Something like a "matches the anime" run would be way more trouble than it's worth in the end (though commentary would help it to appeal to its niche crowd).

It's not really saying to match the anime, but just show how ridiculous it is to use only pikachu throughout the whole run.

Someone actually did complete a run of Pokemon Yellow with only Pikachu, but he used death fodders because Pikachu is extremely frail. Things I've learned from the run (if anyone is planning to make one) 1. Brock is extremely hard with only Quick Attack. 2. You basically need Seismic Toss in order to get past Rock/Ground types as well as Ghost Types (seismic toss can damage ghosts in RBY) , since using Submission means you'll have to carry healing items, which isn't good for a TAS. 3. Body Slam is used because of being stronger than Mega Punch, as well as having 100% accuracy. In a TAS, Body Slam could be used for the Paralysis chance instead of waiting for a 1/256 miss. 4. Self-Destruct is the easiest way to get past Geodude. 5. Mimic is needed for Giovanni and the E4 Fights. (Giovanni's Dugtrio knows Fissure, Bruno's Hitmonchan knows Ice Punch, which is needed for his two Onix and Lance's Dragonair knows Ice Beam. And if anyone wants to see it: http://www.twitch.tv/mountebank/c/2978092

The human element of the run is far more entertaining than the game itself. If it wasn't for someone lying about their record 40 years ago, I don't think we'd take a second look at this run/game. Meh vote.

Looks like an optimized run of this could be faster than any % NSC for red/blue? idk Link to video

I was able to export the theoryTAS into 4 separate GBI movies using an updated export LUA script. The 4 GBI movies verify on console when played back one after the other, so the theoryTAS is effectively console verified.

A TAS involving sequence breaks would be unconventional and would probably be a candidate for the playground. Requirements: Pokemon Stadium 2, Pokemon Red/Blue, Pokemon Yellow (Multi-disk bundler, 2 controllers, 2 Transfer Paks), and a way to rip the save to use it in GBHawk. Verification: In Pokemon Stadium 2, beat all of Round 1. Start Pokemon Red/Blue, either do the Mew glitch, teach Mew Dig, Cut, Fly, and Strength, have a Fresh Water in the inventory, save at a Pokemon Center. Start Pokemon Yellow, catch Pidgey, save at a Pokemon Center. Deposit the Fresh Water to the Color Case, trade Pidgey and Mew, withdraw the Fresh Water from the Color Case. Beat the Round 2 Prime Cup with Pikachu on the team. After Pikachu learns Surf, return to title screen. Finally, upload the verification movie. Sequence breaks: We can skip getting the S.S. Ticket, Rock Tunnel, and the Safari Zone with this setup. It allows us to skip at least 20 trainers which will make it harder. Thank goodness for Gen I misses. We can't use Mupen64-rr as it is (attempting to record from now in Mupen64-rr may show an error message in-game). The Ares 64 Accuracy core in BizHawk will have to be used to set up the verification movie. DV manipulation for Pikachu is recommended during setup.

Pokémon Yellow ACE Team Typewriter idea: Writes 404 bytes to party data, writes 1122 bytes to box data 12 times. Takes about 4 minutes and after it's all said and done, takes you to the hall of fame. Takes approximately 5 minutes. Not viable for TAS submissions, but suitable for user movies. Pokemon Stadium TAS FTW! Now to get that save tool worked on.
