Comments

This is a project that I had initially started back in 2018, but put it off... Recently, I had an itch to do it again and actually finished it.

Stage by stage comments

Stage 1 (25M)

1 frame was saved by grabbing the first ladder (the broken one) a frame earlier.

Stage 2 (50M)

An additional 6 frames were saved by getting on the last ladder earlier.

Stage 3 (75M)

This one... oh boy... Despite some earlier ladder grabs, only ended up being ahead by 12 frames. Whatever additional frames that were initially saved were lost having to wait on and avoid the jackhammer...

Potential Improvement(s)

In Stage 3 (75M), there's a matter of manipulating the jackhammer at the end of the stage. If one can find enough frames to save throughout the stage that would avoid the jackhammer without delaying beforehand, it will lead to significant time save.

DrD2k9: Optimization is solid with good RNG manipulation to avoid enemies.
Regarding the jackhammer in stage 3 (75M): it is indeed possible to manipulate their spawns, specifically the starting horizontal position when the jackhammer enters the screen. This run has the jackhammer start in the ideal horizontal location (whether intentional or not), so changing this won't aid the delay in game progress. I was unable to find a way to alter the timing of when the jackhammers are released; it appears to be on a consistent timer, but I was unable to find the timer in RAM to confirm.
Accepting as an improvement to the current publication.

Review: I couldn't find a ROM that matched the SHA1 hash in the .bk2 0B6D75BCC99D34A42CD58558CB555C6A80ACC263, but the run still syncs on one with this hash EE3603417CCB2058866B6C16396503609EF272AE. (headerless hash = A017A0A0AEE71FEA7BCFCB5D889E710516AB330C) I couldn't find any further improvements. This run looks solid and is an improvement over the current publication.
