Hi! I'm back once again, this time with an improvement for the Any% branch. As mentioned on 6/18/2018 submission (5 years, 4 months, 9 days ago) this would be acceptable as a fastest completion, therefore I bring you this movie in return!

Glitches
Password Glitch
- Traveling to Any Country is a developer intended way to travel from the start of the game to the end using a stored password in memory to access its content. The game has multiple different passwords, some known and some hidden. This password is to skip to The United States allows the player to only play the last 4 race to beat the game. The game initially has 64 tracks, that of which 61 1/2 are skipped to obtain victory. The Password is: 3V53-<GPG-V<34-2H2TP-HDC33
Los Angeles Wall Glitch
- Los Angeles has what is what is called a "wall glitch". In the game's memory their certain flags that need to occur in a short amount of time, and if the rendered position is considered too far out of bounds the region of the wall gets its flag set to the "finish the race" position, in this case 1st. Not all walls and position act the same, some require special setups and this one requires precise timing, speed and position. This glitch was initially found by a community member by Yoschimidstu
Tricks
- Extended Speed = Extended Speed is when the car can't lower any more from 228, which is the lowest it can go before you lose your 'high speed' momentum. By extending the timer to which the speed variable is tied to, the car is forced into a position where it has to increase speed regardless. This will only work if the next corresponding part of the track has a downhill section.
- Turn Throttling = Turn Throttling, found by RallyFTW, is method in which the cars animation can't be interrupted by a sliding state. This works because the game checks for a timed portion of the car moving either left or right on Rainy or Snow tracks. If you repeatedly press Left or Right depending on the turn in question, you can negate the time it would take to start sliding. This is used in New York and makes the track increasingly more fun, but, also more challenging.
- Gear Momentum = Gear Momentum is a Manual Transmission only trick. Gear Momentum refers to the state at which the gear position is in. By starting with a nitro in 1st gear you can explode out the gate by increasing your speed in rapid succession, faster than you would in Automatic Transmission.

Questions
Where is the Money Coming From?
- The money amount of $150,000 is coming from the password glitch which places me from a "continued" placement, despite never racing in the United States the fake placement is from identifying where the game needs to be at a current state in order to compete against the CPU cars.
Why do you Always Start in 20th Place?
- The game will automatically make it harder for a 1st place victory and will place higher positions in the back vs. lower positions.
Why is The United States Only Completed?
- The United States is the 16th country in the game and the final country to beat in order to finish the game by reaching the credits.
I See You Fazing Through Objects, this seems like Cheating!
- In fact, it's not! The game has some objects like Road Mergers to tell the player where to turn next. What the game doesn't tell you is that if you drive very carefully in-between these mergers you can go on the outside of them. Doing this, makes the turn that would have been too sharp initially, to allow me to keep speed throughout.
How Come you are Losing Frames on the Start Press?
- I did this due to manipulating the Opponent RNG so I could have a faster Nitro start. If I were to press it on the first available frame, I would get blocked and have to drive slower. So I went through and made sure I could find the fastest possible start to a race.
How come you slow down at the end of San Fransisco? Wouldn't it be faster to keep pressing X?
- This is where the stylistic choice comes into play. I can let the movie finish out for me without any extra input, and the movie will end up being faster, despite the race being longer.
I thought the movie for All Tracks "Had" to have to the A press on the final textbox where the money is counted, and the player position is shown!
- While this is an opinion, it's not exactly required. All this does is allows the movie to be longer for no reason and makes the arbitrary input to exist. The overall difference is stopping at a "Stylistic Choice" rather than a required one. Yes, the movie for All Tracks has this and didn't include the additional point I bring up here.
Why Not 2 Players?
- I've had the idea to try it, but, ultimately, decided against it. The game becomes less enjoyable due to sound overload and the lag is crazy to control. In Hindsight this would be a cool one-off thing, it's something that could be done sometime if I so choose.
How Come you Play on the Hardest Difficulty?
- Hardest Difficulty aka Championship is Top Gear 2's hardest difficulty. By choosing this difficulty I eliminate any possible early cars to show up on laps 2 or 3 to change how the outcome is affected. If Normal or Easy are chosen the mode actually becomes harder the faster, you go, and not in the best outcome possible. Cars can be anywhere on lower difficulties and staying with the hardest makes the run better.
Possible Improvements
- for now, I can't find any.
If there is anything I missed to add to this submission via text, feel free to ask.

InfoTeddy: Replaced movie file with 39 frame improvement.
nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: Replacing movie with a version that has an earlier input cut off.
nymx: After reviewing the judgement, that feos did back in 2018, I had to check the concerns. I believe this time around, they are no longer concerns...since one of the biggest tricks used, was the "wall-glitch".
Some points I wish to convey:
- Why do you always start in 20th place?: Not a problem...we like it hard to beat. Even though entertainment is not counted for in "Standard", it still is great entertainment when zipping through all the cars. At least it is for me.
- Why is the United States only completed?: Verified by feos, long ago. Also...it triggers the credits, which is what we want to see in confirming that a game is complete. This might be weird, when compared against other games...but it is different and it works in this case.
- I See You Fazing Through Objects, this seems like Cheating!: Say what???? TASing is totally different, if your inputs prove a run...then it is definitely not cheating, since we want the fastest runs possible. Good TASes always include every trick to get ahead.
- How Come you are Losing Frames on the Start Press?: Loosing frames is a common trick and has been done in many, many games to alter the ability to speed through segements.
- How come you slow down at the end of San Fransisco? Wouldn't it be faster to keep pressing X?: This would be true, if you are going for an IGT run. There is a balance of this in some cases. F-Zero ends with a small amount of frames cut, but it doesn't affect the game timer...which was the goal.
- How Come you Play on the Hardest Difficulty? Good choice. making your route clear for driving does make it faster.
My own personal judgement, from past submissions. I've seen members discussing how it is faster to attack the corners from outside to inside. I have personally TASed this game, at the request of
feos for confirming a run years ago. What I have found, is that these tracks run like a record player. It doesn't matter if your are not driving the correct line. As long as you avoid traffic, eliminate the "pop-up" lag, and use your nitros in the correct place...then you are getting your fastest times.
Because this demonstrates clear domination over your own RTA WR, I see that this TAS has done its job.
Accepting.
