DrD2k9: Welcome to TASvideos. Our goal here is to publish/archive high quality and highly optimized TASes of video games.
There are a few problems with this run:
  • Visually, this submission appears to be recorded methodical, yet flawed (i.e. missed jumps), human play as opposed to a planned/executed TAS of the game using available TAS tools.
  • The game is not completed as presented in this submission; stopping instead after world 8-3.
  • The optimization of this submission is woefully sub-optimal compared to the various runs of this game already published; "glitchless" play notwithstanding. Further, this run (as-is) is already slower than the current human record for the same category. Even subtracting the additional TAS timing from power-on, adding 8-4 to the run would add enough time to the total displayed on this submission that it would still be longer than human play.
For the above reasons, this submission must be rejected. Please try again and feel free to seek advice from other users on how to improve your skills.

Welcome to TASVideos! I regret to inform you that this run is noticeably slower than the RTA world record of 5:02.685 for the equivalent category: https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/runs/yd2x27qm. Not only that, the inputs appear to prematurely end at the completion of 8-3 (did you upload an unfinished version by mistake?). The movie also contains obvious mistakes and suboptimal movement for a heavily optimised game such as this one. Frame-precise inputs are the expectation for this game. Another thing to note is that the SMB1 speedrunning community no longer approves FCEUX for submissions due to the default settings being deemed not accurate enough for high-level runs. BizHawk's NESHawk core is more appropriate for TASing this game (or NES games in general). I would recommend using the Userfiles to host work-in-progress movies, if that was the original intention here. However, don't let this discourage you! TASing takes time to do well. Find a game you're passionate about and don't mind sinking some time into. Do some routing to find the best path. Try optimising your inputs in the input editor. Look into the game's memory usage and code itself if you think it helps. Share your progress with others and collaborate. You'll find that it's a lot of fun.
Don't mind me, I was born on Friday the 13th. (I'm not TASing that NES game, okay?)

RTA rules do not apply here. FCEUX is a completely acceptable emulator to use for TASing, and TASVideos still accepts movies made with it. I've also had pretty good success console verifying TASes made with FCEUX, and there are many verified publications from as far back as FCEU 0.98.12. SMB1 in particular is emulated plenty accurately for TASing, as evidenced by how all current publications of SMB1 were made with FCEUX and have been verified on hardware. There are definitely games out there that are more accurately emulated in BizHawk, but it's not perfect either. The NesHawk core in particular is also rather slow compared to FCEUX, which could be problematic for some people depending on their computer hardware.
