  • Played with Mupen64-rerecording v8, much thanks to nitsuja.
  • Aims for fastest single player completion under default settings.
Fox was chosen because he has the fastest running speed out of the available characters on start up, and one of his moves is less dependent on frame usage than almost all other moves-- his down b ground cancel. This proved to be very useful as you'll see. It was for these two qualities I chose him, but there's too many character variables to know just yet who would be the best for TAS.
Started recording at 12pm, and finished at 7.5am. The game, I believe, looks very cool for TAS. This is probably the most painstaking ssb project I've undertaken since I forced myself to complete all character's very hard mode with 1 stock no continue, eh 6 years ago? How much of my life I've wasted on this game since it came out... it's depressing.
Anyhow, I really hope the viewer gets a kick out of this.

It looks fast-paced. Yoshi-battle especially. However, I tried several times and the movie desynced in varying point of the game. I couldn't watch it to the end successfully. From what I saw however, I can't be certain whether or not it could be played faster. For these two reasons, I refrain from voting.

Hmmm...this video was quite interesting. Although I think that this video suffers a tad much from stale moves, I think the game might not lend itself well to other strategies. Due to my computer currently rendering videos, I watched this on my underpowered laptop in slow motion, so I could see some interesting details in the construction of the video. I also would have liked to see the bonus games beasted instead of opted-out from. I did very much enjoy the fights where you conned the AI into doing something stupid, most notably the Metal Mario fight (although maybe there's a way to manipulate him into doing it sooner)? Nonetheless, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt for all the oddness except for the bonus games, which is just a personal choice, and vote yes, although I think attempting this video a second time, or maybe making a second vid altogether with a different character or harder difficulty setting might be more enjoyable. I look forward to future runs if you choose to do any.

Seemed very well-played/enteratining and never desync'ed for me, even when using different plugins. Voting yes.

I voted yes. At first I didn't think a TAS of that game would be interesting at all ... but when I watched it, I found myself to be very entertained! I liked it a lot! It's fast paced, and there's a lot of CPU-pwnage!

This is a tough call for me. Fox uses a much smaller variety of moves than DK does in Jammer01's run, though this run is significantly faster. I find it less entertaining in most levels. The final pose at the end of the vs. Kirby team was awesome, though. The battle with Metal Mario couldn't be more boring. It's an outstanding run from beginning to end, but I'm conflicted over the entertainment value. EDIT: I'm voting No because it was played on Easy.

I thought the Metal Mario fight was pretty damn funny. But yeah, since runs are supposed to be done at the hardest difficulty, I'm voting no. I really did like it though. :(

It got stuck at the last score screen. When I load the rom, it says "This rom is a hacked dump, do you want to continue?" Would that cause the desync? I would vote a maybe if I could vote and if there was a maybe option...The reason being, this guy did it on Easy.

Yeah Pyro, I'm afraid you have the wrong rom. Try to find "Super Smash Bros. (U) [!].z64", or better yet, find a .7z file which would have every version in it.

I personally don't like much of Super Smash Bros. but this run cept me entertained the whole time. But because this run was made on Easy, I'm woting for "Meh". (And also maybe because I haven't played this game enough to know so much about it)
Which run should I encode next? :)

Hmm... either I chose the wrong CRC32 to display, or this run was made using the hacked dump. (Probably the former.)

It has entertainment value, but you lack an explanation as to why you picked easy. So no. The CRC matched up for me, and no desync in playback with wildly different plugins.

I vote no, for these reasons: a) played on easy b) rather repetetive c) died in the bonus stages Sure it was fast, but you played on an easy difficulty (where the cpu would be rather dumb, and quite prone to dying without putting up any sort of fight) despite a harder difficulty being available. repetetive is pretty self explanitory, you mostly used fox's reflector for the entire thing, which was rather stale. and bonus stages, while dying makes sense for speed purposes, finishing them as fast as unhumanly possible would be much more entertaining to watch imo. just my 2 cents.

I meant, I had the hacked ROM, and the CRC also matched up for me, which means it's probably displaying the CRC stored in the ROM instead of the CRC the emulator calculates. I should change it to use what the emulator calculates because it's not much help if it can't even differentiate between a good and a hacked ROM. Anyway, yeah I think a run of this game should be more entertaining than this. I think it should be made with these rules: - hardest difficulty - must complete all bonus stages - choose whichever character is best for doing entertaining and varied moves as that character's optimal means of attacking, which is not necessarily the fastest or most powerful character - aim for fastest time given the above restrictions

i see. i stated it was done on default settings, but if i do it again, i'll do it on very hard since that's what everyone wants. as for the bonuses, those are like a whole nother speed run all together, but i suppose i could give it a go. thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

I actually think a score run would be much more interesting. You would have to go for lots of different bonuses.

Again nico, I liked what I saw, but I heard too many say that it can be done better and should be done on higher difficulty :) Also I would like to see what you could do with Bag of Magic Foods suggestion. I am guessing that special sequences of moves gives higher score than others?

Not necessarily, there are just some special things you can do to get higher points, like using the arwing to clear and stuff.

Yeah, and you'd still want to try for fastest time for the time bonuses and a No Damage Clear for lots of points. But then you have some other options. The single-move bonuses are kinda bleh, but trying to get Pacifist more than once might be fun. (For some reason it's really easy to trick Pikachu into just falling down between buildings.)

that would be ridiculously funny if it was attempted, since that would mean a player would need to get pacifist on every level (60000 points). it would be something like the metal mario stage, but for everyone. back when i used to play single player a lot, i was able to get link, pikachu, metal mario, and i think once the kirby team to kill themselves. it might not be as entertaining as you think, though. it'd mostly be waiting around at the edge for them to do something stupid, which is rarely fast.

Okay, then just get Pacifist when it's reasonable. There are lots of other bonuses to try for...

imho, voting no for this run because it was played on easy mode is not an argument: - there's already published TAS playing on easy mode - this was much more entertaining than the currently WIP playing in the very hard mode perhaps, im voting meh because: - i would like to see bonus stages done - a fastest metal mario stage (even with no pacifism) - a faster movie finish

Yeah, I'd like to see the bonus levels too, simply because even though it adds time to the overall movie, it's far more entertaining that dropping straight off the stage. Also I agree that it would be cool to see a high point count, obviously as long as too much speed isn't sacrificed. I'm looking forward to your next run at this, Nico. :)
