About the Game

Segapede is a 1994 prototype platformer made by Hidden Palace. You play as a turbo-powered centipede called Astropede and speed through a single short, generic level as fast as you can.

About the TAS

This TAS aims to complete this prototype as fast as possible.
This is 109 frames (1.82s) faster than eladogGames's submission and 24 frames (0.4s) faster than Spikestuff's userfile with "no actual effort".

Speed Management

Being in the air is slower overall, regardless of what degree the slopes are at, so we need to have as little air time as possible to go faster. There are two exceptions to this, however: The first is near the very start, where we jump from one slope to another and the second is one an intersting quirk I'll get to soon.

Lag Reduction

Lag can sometimes be reduced by not holding right for 1 frame. This usually doesn't lose any speed, so this is done as much as possible throughout the TAS.

Jump Glitch

This little trick was discovered by Spikestuff while they quickly put together a userfile to show that eladog's submission was suboptimal.
For this glitch to work, we need to land on the cobbled wall as early as possible and then jump on the 2nd frame possible. This gives us double the height and as a result, we are in the air for longer. This is usually a bad thing, but since it's near the end of the course, this is actually used to end input earlier.
There's not really much else to say about this TAS. Thanks for reading.

Samsara: Claiming for judging.
Samsara: The primary author has requested to be banned from TASVideos. Rejecting, as we do not allow submissions from banned users. Induviel may resubmit this run if they want.

Yeah. That's my issue with this version (and if you know my history it's going to sound hilarious coming from me). This was basically made as a complete shutdown on eladogGames' TAS in which we'd rather have the person learn how to make their TASes and what you made was also done in relatively no time and submitted outright on a whim. This is the exact issue I have with the input you made on Castle Cat. I informed you in DMs whilst providing my section, that I assumed you secretly had the values to the Dragon's Health to which the only reason I gave you the input is because you were going to push something out quickly and you still did without checking with me first. You could've gone and said "Hey I completed this section you were struggling with. Mind taking a look at it?" but instead you said "so the dragon has 11 hitpoints in this port. TAS is pretty much finished, will be submitting shortly and adding you as co-author since you did the work before the boss fight." The reason I fixed your input is because I did the thing I assumed you had done. Which was having the value to the Dragon's Health. All that section was, was jumping under a dragon's head and keeping an eye on its health to which you didn't have, which was something you could've gotten when you completed that section to validate, but I had to find that value after you submitted. This is the exact same issue that Pepper-Color has, and Pepper-Color actually informed me of a flub I made. And I do acknowledge that I also make flubs, no one's perfect. But when you're spending no time on a project? You need to watch what you're making, cause you also have slip ups and you do things too quickly that sometimes they do need another pass. And I know this as fact. Your input isn't clean in some of your TASes that are published, they're only good on a visible level. This submission is good, on a visible level if you ignore what I wrote at the start. You also need to take some time just polishing it and not spending 4 hours on a game, and that's including a single level one.

Just a quick addition to Spike’s comments. Judging has become a bit looser recently and runs are now more likely to be accepted based on if they visually appear optimized. Judges aren’t going to overly scrutinize every frame of your submission. That said, we still desire highly optimized runs. So if a judge or someone else can easily beat your submission putting in little effort of their own, it shows that the run wasn’t very well optimized in the first place. In such a case, the run may be rejected or you may be asked to rework the run before it can be accepted. TASing isn’t about getting as many runs submitted/published as quickly as possible, it’s about optimizing games. Take your time and don’t feel rushed to submit just because you finished TASing through a game once. I’ll reiterate what Spike said: take some time to review and polish your work before submitting. Also consider utilizing the feedback avenues of the forums or the TAS feedback channel of the discord server to potentially get feedback on your runs before submission. While these aren’t guaranteed ways to prevent sub-optimal submissions, they can help.

well, nymx sometimes rushes his judgments and misses blatant optimisation issues, but you’ve never had a go at HIM for it. so why do you 2 think it’s right to start having a go at ME when NYMX was the one doing it FIRST?! and Spikestuff, regarding Castle Cat: if you’ve been so pissed off about not finding an HP value (that doesn’t even matter for optimisation anyway), you should’ve let me know in the first place rather than told me in a DIFFERENT BLOODY SUBMISSION. ending this post on a positive note. Induviel, well done on improving my submission and thanks for never being unkind to me, unlike the other two users in this forum.

I don't know if you'll look at this or not. I'm at a loss on your attitude and the needless attack towards Staff. All I wanted you to know whilst using my 2015 submission was "to not do what I did". You quickly made something that had issues, and it was a pattern to something I once did. I am not hurt by your statements here or on Discord, and I personally don't care about your bigotry towards me, whilst others decided to protect me there. But. I hope you don't go down a path where you take it out on others-- or bystanders. I hope you instead take the time to assess what was being said, and actually move on to a point of understanding... where someone is coming from. People care. People break down. But people shouldn't take it out on others. I personally hope in the future you resolve your issues and return, but take the break for however long you need it.
