Are we going for high score? Are we playing on very easy? Are we playing on very hard?

Going for score would be cool with all the possible bonuses. You'd want to be fast anyway to maximize your time bonus.

If you're gonna do it fast, just kick your enemy over the edge of the stage and finish him with the final cutter, I think that's the fastest strategy since you can win the fight in about 3 to 4 seconds on most stages.

Or, you know, just use any of the other spikes. Odds are that's going to be the entirety of the not-team battles anyway (and possibly the team battles as well): Throw or smack 'em over the ledge, spike (or, in Fox's case, shine-spike). And the two biggest spike whores are Ness and Kirby. (Personally, I think Ness would be the best pick due to his double-jump-cancel, but Kirby is only slightly less broken and is immediately available)

Just pitching the idea of 1 vs. 3 level 9bots, 99 stock. 0% damage taken.

for broken fun, I can't see anything better than Ness, but he requires an official SRAM. That said, Ness' throw will pretty much cancel anything come at him and can be followed by his meteor smash of down+a in air.

Doesn't Kirby have some sort of infinite aerial attack z-cancelling combo? You should think about asking on www.gamefaqs.com's SSB form for the best combos when executed perfectly. Speaking of which, this would be an awesome game for entertainment runs. 5-stock 3 level 9 CPU opponents on a team against you in cool and intresting ways. (Or maybe just one?)

No, that's Ness (at least, I'm ninety-some percent sure it's Ness). See, when you do the double jump and do an attack, it cancels the jump. So you can do aerials and land much more quickly than in a simple short-hop. enabling you to do aerials (in particular the down-a) much more quickly, especially since Z-cancelling eliminates all lag when you land while doing an attack.

Ok I finally registered for an account, been reading these forums for probably 2 years. Anyway, I made a test run on Easy difficulty a few weeks ago but it was bad, over 8 minutes, so I just did another one on Very Hard (not done yet). Its up to the start of the Kirby fight at 3:25. anyway here it is: http://rapidshare.de/files/8114550/Super_Smash_Brothers_very_hard.m64.html

Kirby does have a very fast short hop/jump cancel, ie jump and as soon as you are in the air, press down a. I learned this recently from my friend who is a master. I will try to get him on the board.

I personally like to use Pikachu, Ness, or Mario, hehe. Pikachu can do a rapid head butting attack, and if you pin your opponent against a wall or something, it's only a matter of seconds before you can bump them off. Ness of course has his Home Run Bat, which can be used with devastating Accuracy and Damage, and depending on if your opponent has at leasy 50% damage, one swing opf the bat can send them sailing. And Mario has his Punch and Kick Combo, Fireballs, and Tornado Spin Attack. If utilized properly, either of these three characters can easily devstate any opponent.

Ness' home run bat has no special properties. It is just a normal smash attack.

But something that Ness has that is powerful: his PK Thunder Dash (or his 3rd jump). His Spike is awesome, and his throws are super fast and are some of the most powerful in the game. 2 of his smashes are excellent (Down Yoyo and Bat). Of course he's an aerial character, and his PK Fire can be followed by any of his powerful moves for massive damage.

Keep in mind that Ness is not one of the 8 starting characters. Also, I still stand by Fox.

So just use a cartridge that already has the characters unlocked.

Suck someone up with kirby. Fall off stage with them in your mouth. Spit them out at the last second. Sometimes you'll get the win :D. Works better with some stages and some opponets. And I like playing Game and Watch best :o

Ok well I finished that very hard run of super smash brothers, it's really just a test, didnt even have an analog stick, but anyway the time is a little under 7 minutes. Its not too bad, some surprising things in there, but of course not perfect. If anybody has a list of all the best known legit times for all of the very hard stages, I would really appreciate it to see which ones can be improved. anyway, here it is: http://rapidshare.de/files/8149252/Super_Smash_Brothers_very_hard.m64.html

i would like to make one of all btt optimized routes in one movie, but i would need to have all characters enabled. the hacked roms for this game won't work on mupen, so i'm not sure how this could be done.

I think this case should definitely qualify for an "exception" since we clearly know your purpose.
