All the glitches and such used in the posted WIP made me realize just how different Squeak Squad is from it's predecessors, despite looking the same. I definitely look forward to this run, as it looks like it'll be very impressive among the rest of the Kirby series runs, even Super Star. I can imagine a 100% being viable too, since getting all the treasure really isn't very hard and doesn't take up too much time.
This is only a little obsessive.

Metal permits you to swim against currents. Including downward ones (though, to make progress upward fastest you need to cancel your upswim with a sideways one. Oddly, swimming diagonally up is faster than holding up normally, which actually loses you height). This may be of use in 7-1 for 100%.

I found Metal to be very slow when swimming horizontally...

It's slow in general. Just up-right (Or right+a) moves you up at a glacial pace which is faster than the negative-progress holding of up or a alone.

Does anyone know where to find Kirby squeak squad maps? (with all enemies and items revealed) EDIT: It is now possible to mix the sparky and waddle doo in level 1 for wheel which should save half a minute. However, I'm not going to improve the any% atm, I plan to work on 100%.

* A way to make the very first big chest sequence shorter is to spit out the small chest that you collect in the same level. This causes to just make Spinni appear instead of the whole gang. * Using an ability bubble at the same time you touch a warpstar or air cannon removes Kirby's "lifting arm smiling" sequence. TODO: Test other status conditions. * If you die at the same time you get a big chest, the squeak squad sequence is triggered. Then the screen turns white and you are respawned with the chest in your belly. The audio might glitch out for a split second. (useless trivia)

info dump: In 4-4 it might be possible to skip some of the level. There are blocks that break only when stood on that I can't break from below... And there is one chest that could be gotten using an ability that makes Kirby move through walls (Sword, fighter, ninja) but doesn't work either. Final cutter from losing ability (stand on air glitch) doesn't work. I tried many things on both the JP and EN version, but looks like I have to take the 20 sec detour... EDIT: Using the meltable blocks I can final cutter to get the big chest and skip having to fight Storo. EDIT: Turns out you have to fight Storo in either way, if you have gotten the big chest. So the final cutter skip is almost pointless. Normal ability usage: Wheel, fire, wheel, fire, wheel (kill Storo with wheel?) Final cutter route: Wheel, fire, sword, wheel (") Final cutter route is impractical for item glitching and I think the alternative route used is a bit longer. So probably the first route will be used. ----- Through-platform glitch would be useful. Currently there is one glitch in Kirby amazing mirror where you can use the enemy that transforms to a breakable block to clip through. And in SqSq you can use this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR_I1d_bV3A but only on slopes. ----- 100% notes have been completed. Now working on the route. http://i.imgur.com/BKHAGD6.png EDIT: These notes are incomplete and have mistakes. I will post an updated version later (not that I expect others to understand them but it's good for future reference).

For some reason, slide boost at the beginning of a level doesn't work at all in my TAS attempt... Bad things so far, that I can't fix: - Bad RNG ~30 frames lost - Bad Roulette luck ~4 frames lost - No Slideboost in level 2 ~10 frames lost - No Slideboost in level 3 ~10 frames lost This could be a huge problem if I can't slideboost later on, like in level 8-Boss. EDIT: The Kirby Squeak Squad 100%TAS is discontinued until I know why this happens! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1203983421/ksqsq100-4_25.dsm 0.9.8+, U ROM http://pastebin.com/5qc9qdu0 (position and speed changes between levels) EDIT: Works in 0.9.4+ taking the any%, mixing 2 sword bubbles to wheel and using that, then entering level 2. Either it doesn't work because of something I did in level 1 in 100%. Or it generally works less likely in 0.9.8... EDIT: Boost sliding does not work on 0.9.8+ when having Wheel acquired. It works on 0.9.7 and 0.9.4+ (with Wheel acquired). EDIT: I concluded that 0.9.8 is probably the correct emulation and 0.9.7 and before are flawed. That means my any% TAS uses an emulator glitch in pretty much every level's beginning. What is the ruling on this? Can I have my TAS removed?

Are you sure that 0.9.8+ is the correct emulation? Is it possible to attempt the glitch on console?

I attempted it without ability and it worked in 2 minutes. I attempted with ability and it didn't work for 15 minutes. To clarify, the glitch always works without ability. But it seems to never work with ability. This kind of difference between having an ability and having none also plays a role in the Japanese version, where you can wallclip in level 8-3 at the thin slope by crouching repeatedly + walking up the slope, it doesn't work if you have an ability. And you cannot partially clip into a wall that transits to a slope by crouch-gliding into it, if you have an ability. Sorry if this all doesn't make much sense but I'm talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMm8FVAr48A 2:23 EDIT: Worth noting getting Wheel in Lv1 instead of Lv3 only saves 20 frames. (it's actually more like ~150 frames)

This seems interesting... probably I'll make one being a pacifist.

Browsing nicovideo to look for new glitches. I found this video: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm10718767 - This is not new actually. I have already known about this video. I just wanted to mention it here to preserve that bit of history here. Who knows how long those videos will stay online ... :) - It was uploaded in May 2010 and shows the Japanese only glitch where you enter third level in the last world, go onto the slope right before the animal boss and crouch a lot. The game would sometimes teleport you through the slope. It was the only slope in the game to do the glitch on and brought to my attention that out of bounds areas were completely walled in english version but were accurate in Japanese version. ----- I also found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3EPFWX3ezE - In last world, first level, when floating (Kirby is full of air) at a ceiling inside water while holding a bomb, the bomb would zip through the ceiling upwards at high speed. ----- I also found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFVa1rK2WwI - In boss endurance, Japanese version, there would be a random glitch after collecting and mixing certain bubbles and then leaving the very first room. The first stage wouldn't appear.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd-w81Z5w_A Transforming somehow has an influence on how wall physics work (If I understand it correctly). In case the video gets lost: It shows a chest that instead of getting pushed up by newly appearing wall tiles, clips into the wall and is subsequently lost.

New bugs 6-2 Fighter Clip By pressing B and then holding B in quick succession, Fighter Kirby will perform jabs into a rising hit, then charge up a shot while airborne. If you let go of the 2nd B press at the right time, instead of shooting, Kirby will perform more jabs in the air that can lead into a rising hit again. Doing this in a certain spot in 6-2 allows Kirby to clip into a ceiling at the top of the screen. Confirmed on all game versions. Video by 星のカービィ研究所 8-2 Blockin Clip At the end of 8-2, after collecting the big chest, a Blockin spawns near the exit. You can clip inside of walls if you float up against it. Confirmed on all game versions. Video by 星のカービィ研究所 Ninja Invincibility Bug In 8-2, as Ninja, using the attack that grabs an enemy, using that on a fish while moving inside water, causes Kirby to not take damage from another enemy. Confirmed on all game versions. Video by 星のカービィ研究所 Animal Bug As Animal Kirby, when using a dashing attack on an enemy (the one where he scratches the enemy's face), if Kirby touches water during the attack, the attack will be canceled and the enemy will be stuck in the air indefinitely. This can be done effectively on some enemies in 8-2 with the strangely shaped bodies of water.
  • Kirby will not take take damage from enemies while the glitch is in effect.
  • Ditching the ability will despawn the stuck enemy. However, when doing the bug again with a 2nd enemy, the 1st enemy will be stuck in the air even when ditching the ability.
  • Enemies stuck in the air will not despawn from being too far offscreen.
This happens only on the Japanese version. On other game versions, Kirby will continue the attack even underwater. Video by 星のカービィ研究所 8-3 Bad Collision In 8-3, in the room with a lot of dirt, there is a ceiling that has improper collision. This only works on the Japanese version. Video by 星のカービィ研究所 Cannon Bug After entering a cannon while inhaling, if a bubble or ability star comes into reach, Kirby will inhalte it and fall down from the cannon and be invisible.
  • When done with a cannon that spins infinitely, it will continue to spin infinitely. It cannot be entered again while it is spinning.
  • When done with a cannon that spins only once before shooting, it will continue to spin once and then shoot nothing, after which it can be entered again.
  • Entering any cannon while the glitch is in effect causes Kirby to fall out of the cannon immediately after touching it.
  • After entering a new room, Kirby will still be invisible. This lasts until you acquire a new ability.
  • This bug can be used to enter a part of 4-3 where you are normally shot from cannon to cannon.
This works only on the Japanese version. Video by 星のカービィ研究所 Laser Bug At the start of 6-2, the player can shoot regular lasers via UFO or Laser ability against a left ledge which makes them be stuck in the air. Getting several lasers stuck like that will eventually cause sprite bugs and lag.
  • This can also be done at the beginning of 8-1, if the first platform has moved up and Kirby is positioned between the platform and the right ledge as UFO Kirby.
  • Fully charged laser from Laser Kirby can get stuck, but semi or fully charged lasers from UFO Kirby cannot.
  • You can get a fully charged laser from Laser Kirby stuck at the beginning of 8-1 if you charge it up while the platform moves up and then let go near the top of the platform's path.
Confirmed on all game versions. Video by 星のカービィ研究所 - getting single lasers stuck in 6-2 Video by 星のカービィ研究所 - getting a fully charged laser stuck in 8-1 ___________________ More bugs: In 6-3, transforming while a chest gets moved up by wall blocks causes the chest to stay in walls. Video (Player transformed via bubble from their inventory. Done on Japanese version, not confirmed for other versions yet.) Bug in 2-3 that makes the chest before the Animal miniboss enter walls. Video (Player had Bubble ability. Touched chest to pick it up. Moved the chest to Kirby's mouth. Used Ninja ability bubble. Spit out chest. Floated up and entered the miniboss. Killed the miniboss by exhaling stars at him. Inhaled the miniboss and acquired Animal. Going back to the beginning revealed that the chest that was previously spit out is now in walls. Done on Japanese version, not confirmed for other versions yet.) In 4-3, after a room where you are moved by water currents, in the next room you can set the waterfall on ice. Video Being on the left side of the water fall and having everything be ice except the top left corner of the water fall, then trying to enter that single block of water, causes rapid, repeated "enter water" animation. (Player had Ice Bomb. Done on Japanese version, not confirmed for other versions yet.)

More things about Cannon Bug: Spinning Cannon Bug can also be done with
  • Animal dash attack
  • Throw inhale
  • Ghost Kirby dash
If an enemy comes near, Kirby will perform the attack as normal, but also fall out of the cannon and be invisible while the cannon keeps spinning. Also, most attacks will stay active while Kirby is inside a cannon. For example, if you Ninja downkick into a cannon and an enemy comes near, it will be hit. All of these things are also fixed in the international versions. The above things can only be done on the Japanese version. Cannon Bug as a possible timesaver: I created a test TAS which turned out faster than my any%. However, Hi-Jump only destroys grey blocks if the scroll was collected in World 3, so it can only be done this way in 100%. For any%, a different ability might need to be used (if all things fail, Hammer?). Link to video
