If you run this on Ubuntu within VMware, the game will crash on the second level. This is because of the particle effects that rely on the GPU. You can use -no-gpu-effects to make the game run, but it will remove box breaking effects and air blasts. I like the effects, so I encoded this on my laptop which has linux natively (you can also have the effects in a KDE Neon virtual machine with no issue). Also, the game forces 1920x1080, so you'll need a monitor larger than that to encode it properly. And on top of that, the first few frames are at a different resolution than the rest, so you may have to start playback, progress a few frames, and then start the encode - otherwise the resulting video will be garbled.
This game is borderline NSFW for about 2 seconds near the end - you use (huge) boobs as a brief platform to get higher. I was informed that rules are shifting now that content warnings are being put in, or something. Anyway, boobs.
I wasn't sure when to end timing, so the movie file goes from start to finish. If it were to play any longer, the title screen would pop back up.

The Bowl Is Empty is a platformer made in godot 4 - is this the first godot 4 TAS? - it's a fangame of BE Witches, which is a game where you collect monster girls and level them up.
The main character of BE Witches is Vuu, a blue fish girl with a trilobite pet - that's where this fangame comes in. We play as Tril the trilobite, on the hunt for food. The bowl is empty, after all.
Use arrow keys to move, Z to jump, and X to curl/uncurl. When uncurled, Tril can move left and right, jump, slam (press jump while in the air to instantly curl and go down), and curl. When curled, Tril's movement is more physics based, as he is in a ball. When curled, he can roll left or right, jump, and slam.
If you're walking sideways, and then curl, you'll gain a lot of horizontal speed. The same goes if you're in the air.
You can only curl/uncurl once while airborne, and doing so instantly resets your up/down velocity, allowing you to stop if you're flying up or falling down really fast. If you slam, there's some bug that lets you uncurl and then immediately curl again, allowing you to regain momentum quickly. Slams also have a small cooldown based on when the button is pressed, not when the slam actually occurs.
The ideal movement is rolling and slamming repeatedly, as being in the air allows you to gain a lot of speed. In spaces with low ceilings, it's usually better to just roll since bumping into the ceiling is slow.
Running into a brown box with enough speed will break it, and you'll bounce off. Same goes for slamming it. Blue boxes are much more fragile, and won't stop you when breaking them.
When trying to climb over a corner, you can uncurl right before you reach it, and then the game thinks you touched the floor of it, allowing you to curl again and get speed.
  • Level 1: roll and jump
  • Level 2: roll and jump
  • Level 3: avoid the mouse trap, roll, and jump
  • Level 4: do some platforming, roll, and jump
  • Level 5: avoid the mouse traps, roll, and jump
  • Level 6: avoid the screws, do some platforming, roll, and jump
  • Level 7: roll really fast and jump
  • Level 8: use the steam pipes to roll really fast and jump
  • Level 9: roll, jump, and use Vuu's vuubies as a platform. If you uncurl while in Vuu's cleavage, Tril is rocketed straight up, which is used to reach the exit
  • Level 10: you don't even have to collect the food; all you have to do is exist for 20 seconds and the game will progress to the big room with tons of food. And you don't have to do anything there either, it's on a timer.
The ending doesn't progress entirely on its own, nor does it have good 'n' proper credits, so y'know.

nymx: Thanks to mohoc for the sync. It's been really rough, finding any kind of run for this game. Seems to be really rare; however, not rare enough that the concept of the game can't be analyzed against similar types of games. The actions in this game seem to be fair optimized. Some spots appear to be an issue, but after looking over and over...I finally caught on to some of the limitations. Things look pretty good. No obvious mistakes.

Probably not, but I say in the submission notes that I wasn't really sure where to end the TAS. Also, some of the ending sequence requires Z presses to advance.

Nate...since we have "sync" verification now...I'm judging this, based off of your video. There is only one thing that I would ask of you. Can you confirm that last scene really requires those inputs? If not, can you cut them back as far as you can a provide me with a replacement?

Okay, I was being kind of stubborn before, that's on me. Here is a movie which ends input the moment player control effectively ends - when the screen snaps to black in the room with all the food jumping around. This is probably when RTA timing would end, and it's when the in-game timer actually ends. It will not progress the ending, nor reach the credits, so it might be a good idea to hold onto the currently posted movie since it does progress the ending, and possibly use it for publication (assuming it gets accepted, that is). Here are two possible corrections:
  • this first one: User movie #638653234548162807 which ends when player control effectively ends, and which is probably what the previous replacement was supposed to be,
  • this second one: User movie #638653234684537309 which leads to the final message in the credits ("By the way, [...] Thanks for playing!").
In the light of a recent similar case (see Post #531227 by eien86 in Thread #25573: #9202: Tegron's Linux Project Kat - Paper Lily Prologue in 07:56.55), I believe that the correct replacement would be this second reworked movie, since it leads to the last piece of congratulatory messages/credits. But I will leave the final say to nymx.

I can confirm that this one syncs. However, in the final cutscene one textbox was not cleared as quickly as possible, and there were unnecessary inputs at the end. Here is a version which fixes both issues: User movie #638667544697225272. In later submissions, I would recommend using the Input Editor in libTAS to help clear textboxes as soon as possible.

I wouldn't say the inputs at the end are unnecessary - the final text ("you can use ctrl + u to skip to the level's end") has to be dismissed and will not progress on its own. If it is progressed, it will fade out and go back to the title screen, which perfectly loops the game IMO.

"unnecessary inputs" were actually referring to the extra 'z' presses during the final cutscene and the blank frames at the very end. But indeed there could be a discussion about exactly when the movie should end. In my view it should just be what is needed to make the last piece of credits/congratulations message appear. That's what I believe to be the consensus on TASVideos (see e.g. Post #531227 by eien86 in Thread #25573: #9202: Tegron's Linux Project Kat - Paper Lily Prologue in 07:56.55). But I did not see it anywhere in the movie rules or guidelines, so at the end of the day it is only my opinion.

Clearly there is a miscommunication here. In my Spider-Man 2 TAS from a while ago, I had a situation much like this one - two movie files, one that ends on the final input of the main game for RTA timing, and one that goes on longer to allow the ending cutscene and credits to happen. The one that ends sooner was used as the submission time, but the movie that plays the credits and ending was used for the publication movie. I doubt that's the only precedent. Judging by the new "4:44.47" time, whoever replaced the submission movie used my longer movie that's intended for publication, rather than my shorter one, which is intended to get the shortest submission time.

Yes, you were right. I was at fault, sorry about that. I was not aware that it could be a thing, but it was clearly stated in the Judge guidelines: Wiki: JudgeGuidelines#PostCompletionInput. On another note, congrats on getting this published! I really enjoyed the progress made on your original submission.

When watching the encode, I knew something was off about the colors. And then the Vuu segment played - those massive mammaries have been on my screen so much that I could instantly tell something was definitely wrong. And the person who edited my movie got rid of the last Z input, so the movie never gets back to the title screen.

Okay, so I played the movie back on libTAS 1.4.6 using the latest version of the game (last updated 61 days ago as of this writing) to look at the colours on my Kubuntu VM on VMware Workstation 17.5.2. For transparency's sake, I did not mess with the colour settings in the VM itself, and is using the stock configuration in that regard. The final result: On both software and hardware rendering, I got the same colours as on the latter half. Hardware renderer Software renderer So to me, these seem like the actual intended colours. As for the movie not going back to the title screen, I believe this is intended from my understanding. The rules state that suitable endpoints are either a definitive ending, such as a credits sequence, a kill screen, or in the case of there being no clear ending, either all unique content being exhausted and completed, hardest in-game difficulty loop being completed or maxing out the score. There's an additional bullet point for ending the movie at some logical or artistic stopping point in order to make it more entertaining, but that doesn't apply here, as it's a Standard publication.

The colors are wrong. In fact, I extracted the breasts image from the game's files, and it doesn't match the TASvideos encode. (I'll admit I don't mind the thing I mentioned with the movie's ending as much).

We don't extract game files for encodes, we use the final framebuffer presented by the game, which may include filters, gamma correction, and whatnot. If the game normally presents it that way, it can't be "wrong".

The game can't be wrong, but Linux or the VM certainly can. I also took a screenshot of the windows version and compared it to xubuntu and debian, which presented the same as each other, with the darker colors. I've also went ahead and asked the actual developer/artist of the game which set of colors are intended, and I'll tell you when he answers.

Linux doesn't arbitrarily change colors on its own. If there's some difference in how the game is presented on Linux and Windows, then for one of them there's some extra step in the code missing that may be uniquely required by the game engine (or whatever renders is graphics). Or some constants in the 2 versions of the graphics engine don't match. Is there some kind of environment config for godot that could be compared between Windows and Linux?

Respectfully, I have seen this body literally hundreds of times. I have seen the source material the character is from. I have seen other art of this character from the artist. I am 110% sure the colors are wrong. Considering that the kubuntu screenshot above and whatever linux version the encode used are the minority compared to the 4+ system versions I've used that do have the correct colors, this should easily be enough evidence to show the colors are not showing as intended.

We're not here to establish once and for all whether they are absolutely wrong or not. The goal is figuring out if it's possible to fix it for a regular user, or if it requires fixing the code itself which only the author can do. I'll run it on my end tomorrow.

The input that I got, the input that I dumped, never advanced to no title screen. I never removed an input, that's how it came out. As for the colours. I dumped it, that's how it presented itself, I published it as is.
I'm more appalled that rather than being nice, and cropping the image to make more of a point, especially on a site intended for all ages, you decided to hyperfixate on the boobs. This honestly lines up with how you were posting and acting on the Discord about it, how you were making jokes about the tits in the game, and how you are being quite disgusting at that point and now. The other bit which you don't know about, is we had a discussion on whether or not this should be warned, due to the content at play. But due to us having examples from other properties that pass at a Teen and below rating, we thought that it not having it is completely justified. However, the way you're hyper-fixated on this as "property" honestly makes me want to put it on due to you being creepily perverse about it whilst making your "points".
