The Game
Pac-Man Championship Edition is an official adaptation of the original NES
classic which converts it into a competition game. The goal? you have 5 minutes to score the maximum score possible. When the timer reaches zero, you are met with a neat summary screen reflecting your score and how you achieved it:
The Competition
Produce a TAS that scores as many points as possible on Normal mode. The movie with the most points wins. Simple as that.
It is uncertain what the maximum score is for this port, although probably anywhere between 500-600K. Hopefully this competition will help push the limits as to what is known possible.
The Rules
- TASVideos rules for movie submission apply
- Glitches, if you find them, are perfectly acceptable
- Teaming up with others is allowed and encouraged
- Only one submission per user/team is allowed
- Idea exchange in forums/discord is allowed
- Sharing or uploading WIPs before the deadline is discouraged. The goal of the contest is to get as many diverse approaches as possible
- Plagiarism = Disqualification

You must use the following ROM. We cannot provide it but it is easy to find.

You may use any
supported emulator you like, as long as you don't exploit any emulation inaccuracies to improve your score.

The Bot
I will not participate in the competition directly. Instead, I will be using
JaffarPlus to produce a fully botted solution. I will be revealing this solution at the end of the contest. Those who beat its score will receive a special mention.
The Awards
The list of participants and their awards will be officially posted in the forums for all to forever bask at your glory. The following awards will be given:
- 1st Place - Eternal glory
- 2st Place - Long-lasting glory
- 3st Place - Normal duration glory
- I beat Jaffar - A special mention for those who beat the botted solution
- Highest Pellet Score - A special mention to the solution that obtained the most points from pellets
- Highest Bonus Score - A special mention to the solution that obtained the most points from bonuses (e.g., cherry)
- Highest Ghost Score - A special mention to the solution that obtained the most points from eating ghosts
- Highest 10-second Score - A special mention to the solution that obtained the most points in a given 10-second lapse (as reported by the summary screen)
- Highest All-Achievements Score - A special mention to the solution that obtained the most points while also getting all normal mode achievements
- RTA Hero - A special mention for the best score obtained by playing the game regularly. For this, you may submit a single-segment RTA solution along with your TAS solution. The use of re-recording tools (save/load states) or TAStudio is not allowed for RTA.
The Registration
- Sign up / Sign in to https://tasvideos.org/
- Register in the contest by posting a response to this forum post.
- Submit your movie by uploading it to https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Upload and sending me the link via PM or Discord. IMPORTANT: You must make sure the 'Hidden' option is checked so that others cannot see your movie.
- You may re-submit as many improvements as needed until the deadline.
The Award Ceremony
We will host a Twitch award ceremony to showcase all our submissions and give out awards. We will have live commentary and special guests! Stay tuned for the official announcement.
