This purple dragon still had two tricks up its non-existent sleeves.
Enter the Dragonfly is the first Spyro game that was taken from Insomniac Games and developed by Equinoxe Digital Entertainment & Check Six Studios.
This game has issues on both systems it released on.
The title looks absolutely stunning on the PlayStation 2, but has the issue of real long loads, something it had in common with Crash: Wrath of Cortex, and the GameCube pairs back a lot of the visuals/textures to fit onto the smaller disk but gains better loads.
This game is buggy, and we're here to exploit it, we're not here to exploit it much, but it's more disgusting than it was before.

Gliding Speed

As with the previous TAS the fastest movement for Spyro is not running, it's gliding-- after some running.
Spyro's max running speed is 1500 velocity, once you're there, if you add that glide that speed becomes 1600.

HINTS ARE ENABLED

So by default Enter the Dragonfly has Hints enabled. In a speedrun, this is disabled and it persists... this is a TAS.
What does this mean? Well Sparx turns into an annoying companion who will inform you about what you ate for breakfast and what it does.
For the TAS we need to avoid the Gems, otherwise Sparx will give a hint, waste time, and yes this persists past a loading screen.
Nutri-Grain by the way.

Faster Early Ripto

So, we know how this goes, you get to Ripto's portal and we jump in and move on, well no.
First we found out that the faster movement for the TAS was to move as the crow flies because of that red gem, there's also a green gem along this path, but that one is easily avoidable.
There was a new spot to target-- at the cost of losing out on the safer clip, the new area would have definitely worked, after all it is the thumbnail to the video--
But we're not there, we're instead a bit more out in the open to enter Ripto.
This new spot is the earlier variant of enter Ripto, doesn't really have a name to it since it shares Early Ripto's spot.
So it's still known as "Early Ripto", maybe dubbing it Faster Early Ripto is a more fitting name to this variant.

Double Hit Ripto (Technically it's a triple hit)

As Ripto loses his shield, by using the same flame you're able to swing it into his face which would deal an extra hit as the ice shield and his body are two separate entities allowing you to deal damage to him with the same breath.
An instance where Ripto is not taking any damage despite having a flame shoved into his face.

Bugged Ripto

In this TAS Ripto bugs three times, you don't see it happen, because it had to be adjusted all three times.
What happens if you go to fast is that Ripto would not take any damage at all, he will be invulnerable, and you would have to die to reset this.
Hits 3, 5 and 7 would have the next hit become impossible to do... sometimes, it's the one after.

Jump on Final Hit + Moonwalk

That jump at the end is to have the cutscene play faster, and also for the dialogue box to appear sooner, this works best when Spyro's moonwalking.

Special Thanks

  • Fog - For being the one who created the original TAS which targeted just doing what the RTA did but faster.
  • Groink & FirstMaple - For the general advice to taking on Ripto and to clear the pathway for Ripto.
  • yeswally1 - For the reminder that Ripto is a boss that can just outright not take any damage.
  • CasualPokePlayer - DolphinHawk.

Darkman425: Despite having owned Spyro 2 from a bundle for the PSOne (the smaller PS1 model), I'm pretty sure I played this one first at a cousin's house. That probably makes me qualified to judge this.
Darkman425: While the faster early clip is more visually obvious of an improvement to the old publication, the boss fight is also more optimized as well once I compared them a bit more closely. Nice work!
Accepting to Standard as an improvement to [3377] GC Spyro: Enter The Dragonfly by Fog in 02:28.68.

EZGames69: Processing...
Darkman425: Input file replaced with one having the rerecord count.

The way you get carried by the boss to its next position is so funny
