Kyoro-chan no Purikura Daisakusen for the PlayStation is a 1999 platformer starring Kyoro-chan, the mascot for the Japanese chocolate brand ChocoBall.
This TAS aims for the default ending, collecting zero purikura.

Game Objectives

  • Emulator used: BizHawk 2.11
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes intentional damage

Tech and Glitches

  • Kyoro-chan accelerates only while on the ground, gaining speed each frame up to the speed cap, which depends on the steepness of the ground, so steeper slopes have a higher speed cap.
  • In spots where you have to wait for certain platforms, or jumping up a vertical section with normal jumps, pressing left then right each frame helps build up or preserve some speed so when landing you start building up speed from there instead of from 0.
  • Kicking enemies midair loses 8 frames.
  • It's possible to keep speed from slopes by jumping, losing speed for at least a frame on each landing. *Bouncing off enemies, or landing on the ground from high up, let you keep your speed, at the cost of at least one frame of movement.
  • When crouched, and with 70+ health, Kyoro-chan can do a super jump. The less health, the lower the jumps.
  • Jumps gain some height with lower speed, so to make some of the jumps it's necessary to slow down a bit.
  • When bouncing off enemies, it's possible to get a higher bounce by letting go of directional buttons for at least a frame on the frame after pressing jump, at the cost of one frame of speed loss.
  • It's possible to avoid bouncing off an enemy by doing a kick midair so its animation stops the frame you bounce on an enemy.
  • If you press X to flutter for one frame, then on the next frame release direction or kick, instead of losing all your speed, it resets only your Y speed, so it can be used to extend a jump, or land earlier. If this is done, after you land on the ground without getting the animation of landing from high up it will make you lose all your speed.
  • In the level 3-2, it's possible that in each screen, wind happens at certain times when entering the screen, which pushes you backwards, this is based on RNG, which depends on what frame you enter that screen. The snow in the climbing section at level 3-3 also works like this.
  • Enemies spawn and despawn whenever they get on screen or off screen, which is the reason for the suboptimal-looking turnaround at 17:52.150, to briefly despawn the anemone enemy below so it doesn't block us with its bubbles.
  • There are three power-ups in this game: blue and green balloons that give new attack options, and a red one, which is the only one used in the TAS at all; this balloon makes the flutter give you height. The balloon is lost after each world.

Tegron: Claiming for judging.

Tegron: An amazing TAS, so many techniques and optimizations in the levels to get through them as fast as possible. I couldn't find a game on speedrun.com to compare times with, but I did find this RTA, and it's over 5 minutes faster. It's a really good TAS, great job!
