Looks good so far, Guybrush. I had an idea on improving a room, but my idea turned out to be exactly as fast as in your current run. :) Keep it up! EDIT: I have found out two things: 1. You could start the game 13 frames faster: First, press start on frame 0 (with that I mean that you should press down the start key on frame 0, then frame advance to the next frame while holding down start) and then press start again on frame 10. This is 13 frames faster. 2. Using the turbo buttons on the emulator is really neat in this game! if you hold down the "turbo A" button (so that A is pressed down 30 times per second), you will practically fly without falling! At least it takes a long time to fall down if you press A this fast. I tried uploading a movie on DeHacked's microstorage to show this, but the microstorage seems to be temporary down... So I'll post it on my other server, though it will be in a zip file. Here is the movie. Note that it only plays the first level, and that level is done exactly as fast as in Guybrush version. Here's the link to the movie: http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload3/trick1.zip I hope it can be of help, perhaps you were already aware of this.

Where have you found S-coins so far? I'd watch the movie but dehacked seems to be down.

I tired to upload a new WIP yesterday that shows where I find the coin, but as you say dehacked is down. I'll try later when I'm home. And for Randil: I use the turbo A but it doesn't seem to work properly. I think I'll have to get the 0.98.13 version of FCEU. And I can't watch your clip now because I'm not home! I'll take a look at it later!

Yeah I knew that :) I thought about using that but it doesn't speed things up because you go forward always at the same speed. And it's not very entertaining;) Here's the next WIP! It shows the location of the coin I found. Comments?

omg, how do you find out things like that?! XDD

you have to keep in mind that the max falling acceleration in this game is high.. and you should explore it in some places like in round 2 (that jump i said to you, i didnt see in your last WIP i.i).. and round 4.. ^^

Yeah but is it possible to fuse a clip of movies together? I made the room as you said. And btw, I FOUND THE FIRST CRYSTAL BALL!!!!!!! I'll send next WIP later.

I just have an eye for things like that. I watched it many, many times at full speed and came to the conclusion that it could be done exactly 13 frames faster :) Hehe, but on a more serious note, I actually watched the beginning of Guybrush's movie with frame advance and took notes on what frame level 1 started for him. Then while recording the short playthrough I posted on level 1, I checked how fast I managed to get past the startmenu. It's pretty common that many TAS can be done slightly faster on the startmenu, the key to doing it the fastest way is using frame advance and try frame per frame :) And you should switch to FCEU 0.98.13, Guybrush, I haven't noticed many differences myself, but one thing that I found different was that the turbo buttons work a lot better than on 0.98.12 :) So switching would be a good choise. And even though the flying thing didn't speed up things on level 1, perhaps it could speed up stuff in other levels? It could be worth checking out at least. Good luck with your upcoming WIP! DeHacked's microstorage is up now, so get it uploaded ASAP :)

2 things i really liked in 0.98.13: - turbo working - movie search, listing all that fits with the current CRC and order by date.. i actually loved it ;-; also, turboing in mbj is really useful.. even if only because is convenient, since you dont have to be pressing constantly the button, instead, just holding it^^

I agree with that.I think that fceu 0.98.13 is the best NES emulator beacause turbo working and movie search.

I hope this doesn't turn to emulator conversation :) Here's my progress so far. I collect the crystal ball in this WIP!!! I think I went all pretty fast(especially bomb rooms) Comments? Do you think that you could help me to fuse those movie clips in the main movie? I already asked Bisqwit (easy to ask because he's a finnish too) but he hasen't replied. Any luck with the s-coins?

I used to play this game a lot when I was little. I couldn't beat the final area. With save states, I have gotten the best ending which requires the S coins. (I was never able to consistantly trigger the door to the first crystal, though.) I just finished classes, except for a final exam, so hopefully I can go through the game again soon and post screenshots for you.

Your run looks very good, Guybrush! I found some small stuff that could be improved in it though, but generally it looked very nice. Here's what caught my eye: On level 4-1 you can get on top of that pillar without slowing down. Here's how I did it: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/455/mighty_bomb_jack_trick1.fcm Another thing that is worth to notice here is that I try to be as high up in the air as possible when I'm about to fall down to exit through the door. Since you accellerate when falling down, it's preferable to be at the highest possible height before falling downwards in a situation like this. On level 4-2 for example, I got it 9 frames faster because I started falling downwards when I was higher up in the air, thus accellerating more and not wasting as much time getting blocked by the wall. Ther were a few places where this could be done better, but I don't think it could save more than perhaps 4-5 seconds, if done perfectly. I hope these tips helps, looking forward to the next WIP! :)

URGENT!!! you have to be green (use 3 mighty coins) to COLLECT the S-coins! From reading the manual and FAQ it seems you also have to be green to remove some of the secret disappearing blocks.

Here are some screenshots. I hope that they help. Since I don't know if you know where the 2nd crystal is, I posted some screenshots of it as well. http://lingcog.iit.edu/~scubed/mbomb_scoin.zip Don't forget that color changes are based on how many times you press A. I switched to using the good version of the rom. Getting the 1st crystal was much easier now! (The door to the 1st crystal room would be randomly open or unopenable in the bad version that I was using.)

Has anyone noticed that the little song that it plays after you collect the last person before beating the game to get the best ending is the same as the song in Star Force for when you get the rapid fire powerup? It is a slightly different version of the song. Both games are made by Tecmo. That is a piece of trivia for today.

(click for fullsize) Red rooms are the bomb-collecting ones at the end of each round, light-blue are locked or hidden areas. Purple is sphinxes, blue S's are secret coins, orange C's are crystals. V-shaped doors are 1-way, yellow doors can only be opened with full mighty power (green), red doors are opened by jumping off them. Yellow striped doors are hidden and I can't figure out how to open them normally. They lead to the dark-purple rooms on the map. Going to the torture room from the room under 4-2 has the same effect as getting sent there from 4-2, including the "YOU ARE GREEDY" message.

Major thanks to you scubed and Kapow!!!! The collecting of S-coins and crystal balls is going to be easy with these!! I'll maybe have to redone some rooms because I maybe have to get one coin from some room in the beginnig (I have one, two are on my way and I know one spot in the end) if there isn't going to be any other coins on my road ahead (But it may be faster to get those coins that are on my way somewhere else!). And to my problem: Do you think that you might be able to fuse those movie clips to the main movie? I have to make some things in the beginning faster and I'm not keen on doing the whole movie again! And it's no use if you say that FAQ shows how to hex-edit movie clips together, I'm a total dumbass with hex!
