That's awesome. I'm getting really excited about this. Do you have an FCM we can watch?

sorry, but I dont have much else to put up, when I finish chp 3 I will update. I just haven't been able to work on this run. I assure everyone that I haven't lost any motivation and fully intend to finish it, school is just kicking my ass right now (im in my final year of my masters degree). There is really no way I will have any time to work on it until the end of the month. I'm as eager as you guys about seeing this run finished!

Hey, I'm not greedy. I'll take whatever I can get! Good luck with your degree.

well its been awhile seen i posted, ive had a little time to i picked this run back up, im making steady progress in chp3 but i noticed something thats worth mentioning: when leveling up, getting only 1 point in a stat might be preferred (esp when the stat isn't needed and 0 in impossible) since it takes 1 more frame to print the word "points" instead of "point". its onlly 1 frame, but hey every little bit counts! certainly not anything worth redoing any part of the run but something to think about in future level ups.

Actually, I'd say you wouldn't save time with that, given that unless that method of shortening the time you take to luck manipulate allows you to critical hit in the first few possible frames every single time, it's pointless to nitpick to those extremes since you're only going to lose those frames back in all that luck manipulation you do. It's the same reason why I didn't bother with any shortcuts saving less than, say, 30 frames in the Pokemon Blue TAS.

well if you read the above posts, i can crit hit the 1st few frames anyway. the 1 frame certainly isnt lost in this game it least because there are soooo many ways to luck manipulate. what i do in one part is not like to affect my "chances" in another. i see your point but in this game at least i must disagree

chapter 3 done: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/493/DW4%20adelikat%20ver%202%20chp%204%20beg.fcm about 8000 frames saved in this chapter (approx 2min 13sec) 24504 frames total (approx 6min 48sec) lots of little optimizations led to this time as well as a major strategy change. enjoy!

Very impressive, not only do you manipulate things very well, it appears to be almost effortless. You've clearly worked very hard at finding the best order to visit towns and talk to people. One thing I wonder though, can you use the medical herbs in the colliseum, even though Alena has full hp? Does it matter either way to have those in your inventory? I would think you'll need the inventory space in chap 5, but maybe not.

you can use the med herbs even with full HP, i see what you are thinking. if i had to get rid of them that would be the quickest way but judging from my previous run and my new optimizations i wont need the inventory space

The movie desynched for me during the battle with Linguar, though I was using Nitsuja's version of FCEU so that could have been the cause. I'll re-watch it later using the standard version and see if that helps matters.

I've finally had a chance to watch your new WIP, and I love it. There are a couple of places where I hear the "bump" sound as though you've walked into a wall while navigating a town or cave. Does that indicate that you've lost some time trying to go a direction that you can't go? Is it done for luck manipulation?

unfortunately nitsuja's fceu does desynch in the linguar fight :( i was hoping to use it for the rest of the run but ill have to stick to the old one. you will have to continue to use blips to view my WIPS

it doesnt lose time and in some situations its unavoidable thanks for the encouragement & comments!

CHAPTER 4 DONE! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/508/DW4%20adelikat%20ver%202%20chp%204.fcm total frames saved in chp 4: 5241 (approx 1min 17sec) total for 1st 4 chapters: 29,745!! (approx 8 min 15 sec) i will lose about 200 or so frames in chapter 5 because i didn't level up mara enough to get return so i will have to buy 1 wing. optimizations from ver 1: didn't get lamp of darkness died to exit 1st cave (after getting orin) didn't get silver tarot cards died to exit atempko cave much improved balzack fight (nara already dead from cave, not using silver tarot cards, mara not wasting time by attacking) On to the final chapter...

That is awesome. I can't believe how fast you beat Chapter 4. I remember it being a much shorter chapter than Chapter 3, what with all the getting a job and having a wife and all, but I'm surprised at how directly you can get to the end of it. Good luck in Chapter 5.

when you put it that way, chp 3 kinda sucks. don't we play these games to escape from such realities ;) thanks for all the encouragment i can't wait until this run is completed (and is sub 2hrs)! HERES WHERE I ASK FOR SOME HELP: (esp paulygon who seems to be able to do this stuff:) can anyone hack this game and find the HP regeneration (avg) of the bosses in chp 5. this could potentially save some time in the run. its difficult to plan ahead when i dont know how much damage i need to do. for example, in chp 4 fighting balzack: he has hp regen, and i might have been able to shorten the fight one round (by using mara to attack) if i knew exactly how many hps he had. it wasn't a big deal and might not have saved any time anyway. the point is that in larger more complicated battles I see this as potentially costing my time I would really appreciate some help with that. I know it could potentially be time consuming, but even hacking just a few of the bosses could be a big help. thanks in advance :)

found an ANNOYING oddity in the game. in chp 5: in my first run i make it to endor while it is still day in my 2nd run it turns night just before i enter i double check and i take the same number of steps the only thing i can think of is that it doesnt reset "day night" schedule back to 0 from the transition from chp 4 to chp 5 if anybody has any ideas on how to explain this... the problem is now i cant buy a wing at endor since the shops are closed and i have no money to stay at an inn! (and of course i didnt level mara to get the return spell!) if i cant fix the day/night thing i can only think of two options: 1) go to the "shrine" just under the starting town and grab the 50gp from the jar then stay at an inn (dissappointingly slow) 2) go back to chp 4 and have mara buy a wing in the port town just before i set sail (dissappointgly tedious since i will have to redo the "1000th customer" thing to get coins) both cost way more time than i would like though EDIT if anyone wants to look into it: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/516/Dragon_Warrior_4_%28U%29.fcm and my version 1 run (for comparison) is here: www.adelikat.com/Temp

Well I've finally gotten to watch the whole thing through without desync, and it looks great! My only question is, and I dunno if you've answered this already, but was it necessary to walk for so long after getting the Flying Shoes with Ragnar before getting into that encounter? Other times I've seen you get into an encounter after just one step, or was there simply no other way to manipulate encounters in that room.

thats the first square that HAS random encounters. in the cave as long as you go the proper way (by the "over here" or whatever message) you wont get into fights. also, i didn't solve the night/day thing but in the process found i dont have to walk into branca for it to show up on the return list! So problem solved (though i still have no explanation as to why it turns night sooner in my new run). anyway im currently in the lighthouse bengal fight

Ok, cool cool. I had forgotten about the way encounters were set up in that cave. Keep up the good work.

Yes, it would be long--the longest movie (and effort) undertaken for this site, I have no doubt. I suppose the reason I suggest "far-out" efforts like this is because I believe that while there will always be a sizeable audience to watch the old-school games, such as platformers or shooters, or even some of the more obscure selections, games they may have played in their youth or still do, I believe that a truly unique game, or one that requires such a hurculeran effort, would truly be a one-of-a-kind movie, such as Morimoto's famous efforts (until they were beaten by people on this site.)
what is the longest tool assisted speed run video?

There was a 5 hour one of Tales of Phantasia that was never published. And recorded in 3 parts because it was too long for the older version of snes9x.
