List top movies
I remeber this has been discussed, as the difference between a movie that is "good for beginners to watch" and a "favorite on the site". This would probably take awhile to implement into the site, so why not just start a topic about it for fun? No rules; you can post as many or as few runs as you'd like, by any author (yourself included), and they can be submitted, published, obsoleted, or even rejected runs. And if you have a console speedrun you really like, go ahead and list it here, why not? (I'd encourage linking to each run you list, although some will probably consider this too much work.)

I'm not going to link. I consider this too much work. In no particular order: Sonic 3 & Knuckles by SprintGod Sonic 1 by JXQ Sonic 2 by Quiteuesuestt (not necessarily spelled correctly, sorry) Super Metroid 100% by JXQ Mario 64 16 exits by Spezzafer (soon to be replaced with the 120 exit by FODA) Super Mario World 11 exits by flagitious and VIPer7 (soon to be replaced) Super Demo World 120 exits by yours truly and JXQ And for good measure, my favourite console speedrun: Mario 64 70 exits by LeCoureur

This is a rather tough question. I have very little that I watch more than a few times. Rockman & Forte - GigaFrost Sonic The Hedgehog 1 - JXQ There are a few runs I'm anticipating, but I wont bother listing them out of laziness (none of my own, because the games cause me to hate them after TASing them).

My list: FODA's Battletoads 2-player warpless Why? Because I played this game a lot as a kid and know how frustratingly hard it is. Phil's Castlevania Why? Because I love the game. Phil's Double Dragon 2 2-player Why? Because I love the game. Arc's Ghosts 'N Goblins Why? I don't love the game, but I know how infuriatingly hard it is. Bisqwit & AngerFist's Mega Man Why? It's an insanely well planned out glitchfest that is constantly entertaining. DeHackEd's Mega Man X and Mega Man X2 Why? A interesting (yet exciting!) concept that is still the only one of its kind to be completed.

I love Phil's Legend of Zelda movie. The creative route, all the damage to save time, and the insanely fast fighting.

I agree with Luke, Phil's LoZ run is amazing, definitely one of my favorites. Other awesome movies include *MM5 by Baxter and the use of super arrow *Wizards & Warriors 3 by Ferrer Warlord & Dacicus because of all the awesome sequence breaking *Super Castlevania 4 by Phil & Genisto because of a great game and awesome boss battles *All SDW, SMW and Super Metroid runs because the physics allow for incredible stunts *Tetris Attack by Acmlm because of super fast movements and doing like 4 combos at the same time

please remember that most people never owned most of those consoles, and never played most of those games (me, for instance). so, please refrain from suggesting games that must have been played to follow/appreciate, as the dragon warriors series for example. I like the sonic runs, very fast paced, sonic advance 2 is the most impressive, what "inhuman" really means to me. zelda 1 is a must (insane fighting and shortcuts). bisqwit's megaman 1 run, to show what the word "glitch" can stand for. I might recommand dkc1 and smw2 too, lots of tricks. let me ask a question though. what should be the difference between the starred movies and the "top" movies ? since my "top" choices are often already starred, I'd suppose it'd be true as well for other people.

The starred movies are starred because they're considered to be a good introductionary (introductary? introductatory? introductive?) watch for people visiting the site for the first time. No one really knows what this means exactly, as evidenced by the frequent debating about how a particular starred run doesn't deserve a star, and vice versa. I think some things Bisqwit looks for (anyone can feel free to correct me or offer your own guesses/views/ideas here) is how impressive the run looks, how difficult the run's been to make, how "impossible" the tricks used in the run would look to a new user who doesn't know anything about tases, how popular the game is, and I'm sure other things as well. These qualities often means a run that everyone (almost everyone) will appreciate, which of course is why many favourite runs are in fact starred. If you look through the lists in this thread, you'd find a few runs mentioned by many which are not starred, although they're widely considered to be among the best runs there are.

In alphabetical order by system: NES Batman by Jecy One of my favorite games when I was a youngster. Seeing it played so well brings a tear to the eye. NES Gauntlet by FODA Another game I spent years playing. I didn't even realize it had an end! NES Metroid any% by Zoizite This is officially the first game I ever did a speedrun of, at about the age of 10. I was pretty boastful of my 20 minutes too. NES Rygar warpful by Walker Boh I also owned this game, but I gave up on it because it was too hard. NES Snake Rattle'n Roll by Nitsuja The mobility in this game is unreal. This game is a lot harder than he makes it look, especially the under water levels. SNES Donkey Kong Country 101% by Arnethegreat Diddy can fly? Omgwtfh4x0rz!111!!eleven! SNES Mega Man X & X2 by DeHackEd I've never played either of these, but this video is absolutely amazing. Perhaps it will inspire similar runs? SNES Super Metriod 100% by JXQ What can I say? I'm a huge Metriod fan, and this still remains the best of the series imho. JXQ's run does it the justice it deserves. Genesis Sonic 3 & Knuckles by SprintGod The very embodiment of fast paced, SprintGod utilizes both unintended and unexpected routes to make this game even faster. Don't blink! N64 Super Mario 64 by Spezzafer I'll quote myself after the first time I watched it: "That's the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life."

I love watching games with pretty graphics, partly because I have my computer hooked up to my very nice plasma tv. Of course I love a lot of the popular ones mentioned but there are a couple lower-profile runs I particularly like: -Umihari Kawase, because the game is really cool and has a lot of entertainment possibilities. -Gunstar Heroes - I know nothing about this game but it is visually stunning with a great soundtrack and the run is just nonstop action of different varieties. I do enjoy watching some of my own runs, especially Ninja Gaiden 3 when I want to get pumped up.

I'd like to thank everyone who has created or helped create a TAS. You've all provided me with at least a few hundred hours of enjoyment. After reading all of the replies to this post, I find it very hard to choose even 10 or 15 favorites. There are just so many wonderful runs. I think all of my favorite runs have already been listed above - my favorites are the same as most others' favorites. But I'd like to mention two more runs I enjoy that haven't been mentioned yet. I am not sure why I enjoy these videos, but I do: Atlantis no Nazo and Strider (Genesis). Genisto's Bionic Commando also deserves a special mention. Not only did the TAS itself stun me when it was first released, but it also showed me what TASes were capable of. Prior to that, TASes either looked like ordinary human play (but with no mistakes) or showed off the power of rerecording in an obvious way (like the Gradius playaround or 99 lives in Mario 3). The play in Bionic Commando looked completely inhuman yet also purposeful.

Its to much to list all. To make it a bit shorter. I like near all Adventure, Action-Adventure and RPGs TAS. It is always great to see how fast you can beat them. All Super Mario Bros TAS (1-3 and World) are great too. Castlevania all TAS. One from the best is still the Super Castlevania 4 TAS from them. And some other games which not listed yet are: Bubble Bobble (2 Player) Snake Rattle 'N' Roll (2 Player) and maybe some more.
Last TAS finished: Final Fantasy Adventure (4.0 Warp Glitch Run) WIP in the moment: Tail Gator (GB) Matty

Time to answer my own topic. I keep a list on my page here, which seems to update and change around all the time, so rather than relisting it here, I'll just link to the list: My favorite runs by others As far as console runs, I like Metroid Prime's 22% run by Robert Nobles.

I hope you've seen smilingjack's 22% hard mode movie, that's an impressive movie. It's the only speed run I've watched through fully. And following it's progress was just amazing.
