It isn't allowed in SDA, and we're comparing these to Ureta's run. It's pretty lame trick anyways :P

Here's something to start with. It's about as fast as the Utera's bubbleman but it is improvable (I'll do it tomorrow).

That run isn't bad, but it can be improved by a lot, especially since you get hit a lot in the end. Also, please name your files a little more comprehensible than the name of the ROM. (E.g. easy_bubbleman_guybrush.fcm). I'll add this run to the tables later when you upload an improved version tomorrow.

Here's the new run. It still contains some minor mistakes but it's now 1:48, if I've correctly calculated, it's just as fast as the Ureta's bubbleman.

Since I had never played this game before, I didn't really know how zipping worked, but now that I've done a little research I realize that there's an alot faster way of doing the zipping, which I think should be used, since it does save alot of time. Not allowing zipping because someone else didn't use it is stupid, why are you even doing each stage as one "segment" if you want to compare it to something that doesn't? Using glitches is not only faster but also alot cooler.

It's not allowed in SDA so we won't use it.

There are serveral reasons why zipping is not allowed. The first and foremost is the fact that zipping is very difficult, if not nearly impossible, to perform as human player. For that reason alone, there's hardly any speedrunner who is able to do it consistently. Allowing it would delay the progress and quality of this run by a lot due to the inconsistent and bad use of this glitch. Another reason is that this is what the established speedrun on SDA by Ureta uses. We do want to be able to compare it to that, not to make Ureta's work look bad (or, in other words, make ours look good) but simply so we can see how the quality of our run translates into actual time, which I'm sure is important to a lot of people who would participate. In other news, I just added Bablo's Crash Man in 02:08 to the tables.

Bablo's Wood Man in 02:01 added. Nice run, looks much better than your Crash Man run. And Bablo's Crash Man in 02:01. This is a bizarrely good run, better than anything I've ever done. Maybe one second can be scraped off, but I'm not gonna be the one to do it!

I ran Bubble Man (easy difficulty) in 01:44 and added it to the tables. This obsoletes Bablo's old run by three seconds. Still, one more second could be squeezed out... maybe.

Seems like you managed to avoid all lag, really nice. :) I'm gonna run Wily levels with easy difficulty, still have to practise Wily4 boss, I find it pretty hard.. :/

Following some route discussion that Bablo and I have done, we've decided that it's best to segment the Wily levels anyway, even if it's difficult to keep them consistent; this means we'll have to take the stages one step at a time and finalize one before moving on to the next. The Wily levels are pretty much done when it comes to route discussion: We start by using Item-2 right at the beginning of Wily 1 in order to avoid having to fight the birds. Item-1 is used 6 times. In Wily 2, we get two refills for Item-2, of which one is gained by killing an enemy (so you'll need some luck to get it down right). After crossing the spike gap, the first ladder is used rather than the second. Item-1 is used to cross the three Crash Bomb walls. Wily 3 is straightforward: don't grab any refill and thus don't use Item-2. Wily 4 uses all of the remaining power for Item-1 and also uses up Item-3 completely. Three Item-1s are used in one of the spike rooms that's usually bridged with Item-2, three are used in the final hallway, and the remaining one that we have left is used to lift up to be able to attack the boss in Wily 4. Wily 5 and 6 haven't changed yet. Bablo and I are probably the only ones still working on this run, but we still welcome submissions in case you guys change your mind. :)

Well, I tried to run every stage, but when I got mine faster, you two had already done faster run. You're too good for me.

Improved my own Air Man (easy difficulty) run from 1:58 to 1:55. I think that one more second may be saved during the boss fight.

I'm on a roll today. I recorded an extremely lucky Quick Man. I think there's maybe one second improvement in the stage itself, but five seconds more in the boss fight because he kind of allowed me to rapidly fire at him for some reason, bringing the total time from 1:50 to 1:44.

Things are quiet around here. :( I recorded Wily stage 1 in 2:05 today. This marks the beginning of the Wily stages which will be ran according to slightly altered route planning. Changes in this run:
  • Item-2 is used from the start rather than later on in the first room.
  • Item-3 is not used at all.
Interestingly, I had to remap my keys to be able to make this run. Instead of using my left hand to shoot and jump, and using my right hand for directions, I swapped the layout so that I could button-mash with my right hand. It allowed me to finish the Dragon battle much faster. EDIT: Wily 2 in 1:48 and Wily 3 in 1:06 have been recorded. The only thing that slightly bothers me is Wily 2. The boss could be finished maybe half a second faster, although I don't think that a full second of improvement is likely to happen. Wily 3 is very easy so it was completed pretty quickly. Wily 4, however, will require more time. It's probably the most difficult stage of the game (with the exception of Crash Man?) Thankfully, Bablo is going to do it. :)

Omega is not the only one here!!! I recorded Woodman in 02:02, hard difficulty. I'll try to improve my easy difficulty woodman too. Wily4 is giving me some serious problems, but it's near. Omega you should probably update the table with wily2 & 3. Edit: Ok, Woodman in 01:58, easy difficulty. Put hard clashman and both woodmans on bold, unless you are going to improve them.

Updated Metal Man (1:31) to 1:28. Edited with correct boss name. Sorry, it's late... EDIT: two extra submissions from Bablo: http://www.soldatcentral.net/bablo/rusinat/Bablo-Bubbleman-easy.fcm - Bubble Man in 1:44 (easy) http://www.soldatcentral.net/bablo/rusinat/Bablo-Metalman-hard.fcm - Metal Man in 1:30 (hard) All are labelled "done".

I thought I'd try this, and I recorded a movie, I only tried once, so it's not the best, but since there's no movie up of Flash man in the japanese version I thought I'd upload the movie anyway. It's recorded as the first boss instead of after Air Man and Quick Man, does this matter at all? I mean I wouldn't use Quick Man's nor Air Man's weapon anywhere on this stage or boss. Anyway, if anyone would want to see it, here's a link to a movie file. Edit: I know I'm supposed to send movies directly to Omega, but this is more like a question, because I don't know if I can use this movie file.

Well, the thing about Flash Man is that both Air Shooter and Item-2 are really useful in it. Air Shooter allows you to get past those first enemies a little faster, but its main usefulness lies in the fact that you don't have to get hit by that large robot early on. Item-2 is used to cross the gap in the last part of the level and for a little extra hop before entering the boss hallway. Also, it's okay to leave movies here. I edited the main post to say that (since why shouldn't it be okay?) Should have done that before. I'll add your run to the tables for now. :)

I wouldn't know how to use the items in Flash Man's stage since it's always the first stage I play, but I might as well try, and I could probably bring down the time by another 4-5 seconds, since I only tried once to make that movie. Maybe I should try watching Ureta's movie.
