Very nice. This run keep getting better and better. Extremely good, very well calculated and all that stuff. Keep it up, this wip is more famous than you think, just follow the "Views" number of this thread and you will see. =P
Agreed.
Yes, doing a 120-star run is very long and tedious. You don't have to start over again just to try out new tricks. Just push on through and get this completed and get it published (hopefully!). :)
Maybe by then you, or someone else, will try to break that record. It's a good idea to set the bar. You can't really set a bar if you keep having to go back to try new things - especially on a long game like this.
Just keep on going. I am looking forward to the finished result!
Well FODA has already completed a test run and knows what hes doing. The pace he is going at now is fine.
Anyway the 100-coin route in SSL was very interesting. Really was not expected the teleporter in there. Anyway Im looking forward to LLL. I would like to see a double boost up the lavafall with a blind LJ over to the central poles :) I think that might be the fastest way to get there...

Already done almost all of LLL. I'm doing the elevator tour but i think i'm getting to the star faster by going up the lavafall again (like in the other volcano star i did before this).
Going by elevator is almost faster (30 frames slower so far). If only i could get this triple jump over the fire spitting block and up to the floating plataforms where the star is... but i'm a few inches away
edit: ok i got it 20 frames faster than going up the lavafall (but i still go up the lavafall on the other star + 100 coin)
here, 64 stars:

Annoying... that I didn't see wip 115 before I saw wip 111 :P anyways 4th star in WIP 111 LLL was proberbly the best 100% speed I've seen for a long time :D Now for the TAS: All looks perfect. I particulary enjoyed you defeating the two hands with the "break dance" move and your climbing right after the 1st red coin. Just one question: could your 100 coin route have been better planed? Saw it took long time between getting the first star and the 100 coin star. Asking cause in previous 100 coin routes the stars have been apperaring just about the same time (if I remember correctly). Will edit some comments about WIP 115 soon ;).
EDIT: WOW! LLL looks so mutch better now :P Awesome trick in the volcano :) enjoyed also the second star when you beat the big bully and the fourth star was great when you "kissed the fence" :P
SSL may be fast, but it isn't as fast as possible I think. It is just minor things though.
1) After getting the 2nd MIPS star you jump and push the stick forward. It is faster to do a circle instead of changing your direction directly 180 degrees (like you do inside the pyramid when you fall down and turn around to the blue switch, on the square where the blue coins appear).
2)In the Talons of the Big Bird you get all the way up the pillar and then down to long jump. You can long jump if you go to the left of the pillar on your way up. Except that, you can press A to make Mario spin faster.
3) You can leave the shell some frames earlier and long jump while you press Z, instead of waiting to stand up.
The LLL was JUST GREAT! I really liked the lavafall. I've tried this trick in real time, but never actually made it without dying. Good job here.
In your real time 100 coin star, you use the same route I use for the record on sm64. It seems we think the same way. ;)

I guess you haven't seen enough, since this route (for Rolling) is quite popular.
I'm pretty sure he didnt hold A to spin faster so that he could land on the pyramid sooner, because, of course, he can go much faster on land than he can spinning in the air, Holding A or not.

Do you mean the first MIPS? it was just to get a screenshot for the movie published. Mario's face mixed with the star.

didn't know about that. yes it must be faster. But then it would be done by starting to go up the pilar a little more to the left, because I can't change directions after I stepped on it.

never knew about that either. what does this do? like jammer said, is it so i can stay in the air longer? that'd be bad

humm, yea that'd work too. good point

but why is there no record there then? it's blank.
thanks for comments, it will help the next version, although i don't know if anyone would have the patience to redo this. Or maybe it can go on a 70 star run.

You spin faster. Maybe you get a little farther, but since you land sooner it is faster too.

No it isn't. You can see 3 records. Mine is 1:25.

You are welcome. I think it is a pitty, that you post your WIPs, when you are not willing to improve them after the feedback.

well i need to finish it someday, and also, it wouldn't make sense to squeeze a lot on the second half of the movie since the first half is far from perfect either. I must keep a certain quality ratio throughout the whole thing.
when i made the LLL part, i made a savestate at the start of it. Then i loaded the speedrun video and loaded that savestate (which was not from that movie). It synced for about 3 stars, untill the 100 coin star: the blue coin had a different ramdomness. So i don't think it's a possibility to remake the first levels and then hex-edit it in.

fastest star times

ok, now i see this star times competition. what is the point of this redundancy?

yea, not sure why. i did that with frame advance..
about BagOfMagicFood's post:
my plan is to do the 16 star run after this. i don't think i would remake the 120 star run... already spending 1 year of my life on it.
thanks for comments, it will help the next version, although i don't know if anyone would have the patience to redo this.
If you have the patience to do it, you have the patience to redo it!
I don't know is that evil or good encouragement ;)
Anyways, keep it up FODA. I havn't watched any of your wips, but I know it'll be awsome. I am ready to be in total shock once your done :)

Good idea the 16-stars run. I won't be surprised if you cut 1 min off!
After you finish the 120-stars run I don't think it would be so much trouble remaking it, since the routes will be (mostly) the same. It will be relative easy to look closely and correct the minor things.
