Hey, 1st stage of Metal Slug X done in less than 2 minutes. .AVI is ~ 34 Megs and is in a .ZIP https://webmail.unm.edu/Redirect/www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=C682DEFB485665FB In the run I: -Saved every prisoner. -Tried to minimize lag by not using a gun such as the Rocket Launcher and Enemy Chaser. -Fast time There are some worthless shots fired but thats because on the Heavy MachineGun, if you press the button once, it fires 4 or 5 bullets so most of my shots are actually aimed at people and targets in all the areas. Enjoy This is a funny screenshot.

Suzaku's current speedrun beats this level in 1:17.66 in Pinpoint mode. Do you beat that?

SDA's Metal Slug X Run is Over Ps2, I watched it. In SDA's Metal Slug X Run Soldier has unlimited ammo/bullets all the time, so it can't be compared.

Note: The Heavy Machine Gun can be canceled with a jump. As hopping is faster than just walking, this can be used/abused to not miss as many shots.

Very nice. Seemed to be pretty cool how you would bounce on the mummies when you didn't need to kill them. I did notice a bit of lag in some spots when you would wait a second for a group of mummies to appear or something and then blow them all away, was this avoidable or was it just faster to lag?

it was better to lag. In my opinion at least.

weird, on stage 3, its like 3000 frames faster to shoot the wings out on the plane rather than just shooting the middle. Plus you get 60000 bonus points for both wings(10000 and 50000)

Mission 3 complete ~3"01' .avi size = 76.6 MB. *Saved every prisoner* **There was 1 more prisoner to be rescued but he appeared way later in the boss battle, almost a waste of 25 seconds. Rumi Aikawa was my last person to be rescued and she matters the most :) http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=F10D3C66045E1225 enjoy

Just wait till the last one! That's a freaking monster long stage...with lots happening at once! (missles + waving bridge + bad guys + iron lizard.....) EDIT: Just watched level 3. Looked pretty well done, just a couple of smallish questions. The airplane: was the hand-gun shooting as fast as it could have been? I've used a turbo in real-time and got near HMG firing rates. To be honest I couldn't really tell from the vid, but it just looked like you were shooting...slow. Fat: It is possible to get fat off of the pigs, no? And I do know you walk slower, but jumping speed is about the same, but you also get a pretty big power boost in return. Does the power gained for blowing things up off-set the moments when you won't be walking?

To answer these questions: The airplane will be re-done to when I crash the plane into the machine, it will die (that leaves the perfect amount of frames for Rumi A. to come out and let me get her as a capture. And save possibly 70 frames. Getting Fat was a big debate. It was just soo late in the stage. Stage 4, I WILL be getting fat because I can pull it off in the first 10-20 seconds of the stage. Getting fat makes the damage either 1.5X or 1.75X the actual amount. So there will be a slight increase with damage. Plus, who can resist him pulling out a FORK to stab someone? I cannot. haha

I didn't mean the Slug Plane into the boss airplane. The airplane with the wings that can be blown up that explodes into a bunch of coins. Your handgun looked like a handgun when it could look like a machine gun. And why not fat? Fork 'em! Fork 'em all! Fat note: when fat, if you crouch (sit?) you will actually shoot a lot faster than if you stand, even with the HMG. Too bad you can't sit and shoot up...

So far you've done a good job. I'm not a huge fan of collecting all prisoners (especially since you missed one), but it doesn't waste much time. About getting fat: Contrary to popular belief, getting fat only increases flame shot damage (at least in 3-5). Getting fat only increases the size of the hitbox, meaning the flame shot will do more damage simply because there is more flame to hit the enemies with. I do remember there is a flame shot in stage 4 so it probably will make the boss fight faster, you might not even need the tank. There were a couple of instances where you were firing at an enemy but it wasn't doing any damage (like the start of the 3rd stage boss battle) Stage 1: Looked really nice and smooth, except you should have chucked some grenades at the first helicopter when you jumped instead of shooting it. If you got up closer to the bomb roller and threw more grenades at it, would it be destroyed slightly faster? You did have 9 grenades left at the mission complete screen. Stage 2: In the beginning, wouldn't it be faster to drop down to the left and then shoot the barrel? Your firing seemed sporadic when jumping. Does crouching make special weapons like iron lizards fire more quickly? I know pistol speed isn't affected by crouching (though it is in 3-5), but I have a feeling other weapons might be. If crouching does make special weapons fire more quickly, then you could have destroyed the second mummy spawner faster by crouching. Why did you jump so far to the left when you shotgunned those mummy dogs? You were far away from the door. I liked how you just leaped through the whole climbing section. Is it possible to hit the second boss with the shotgun or flame shot? If it is , then it might be faster to crash your slug walker as soon as you run out of cannon shots and start shooting at the boss (remember, you don't have to collect the heavy machine gun on the way). Stage 3: I liked how you handled the boats; faster than I would have ever imagined. Did you test using heavy machine gun on the plane miniboss? You spent a lot of time shooting the plane with a pistol. You did a great job of manipulating the planes right before the boss. Personally I think it's a bit of a cop out to miss a prisoner here, but you're right, it would be boring to wait 25 seconds. So far you've done some pretty good work and I'd like to see more.

You sure about the fat thing? The weapons get soooo much cooler/bigger looking that it's hard to believe that they don't do more damage.

Thank you for the compliments and suggestions. Ill answer some of the question type comments. ---Im going to re-do the boss battle for the 3rd stage because I want the plane to kill the boss rather than the Drop Shot. This will leave just enough time for Rumi A. to step out from the screen and give me the capture. Getting the 2 POW's in the very end of the stage (I think there are 2) would waste sooo much time. ---Yes Stage 1, I should have thrown gernades at the 1st plane :( ---If I got too close to the spawning thing for the mummies, I would have started knifing them. I got as close as I could for that without knifing. ---On shotgunning the dogs, if you're talking about when I jumped and got the points off the ground, the door to the right opens just when I got there, its on a timer after you kill the last dog and he has fallen and vanished. ---On the 2nd boss, a shotgun would have required me to jump and shoot down and only shoot 1 time per jump. The machine I was in was the best solution because it had 2 heavy machine guns, 1 attached to each arm. ---Im pretty sure what "Enemy Chasers" I had left, 23 would do more damage than 200 heavy machine gun bullets. I could be wrong. It is however faster to kill both wings before you destroy the whole thing(2000-3000 frames faster) ---Also, Im pretty sure getting FAT increases every single guns power(including pistol) I could be wrong on all of these, I just remember coming across these decisions earlier(except for the 1st plane grenading). The rest of this run, especially stage 5 and 6 will be a pain in the ass. I just need to stock up on the best weapons. Thank you for your insight. Ill post an .avi of each stage when I am done with stage 4. Or I can just make a HUGE .avi file of every stage. Your decision.

Why not turn the blood on in the dipswitch menu of the emulator (does this emulator have a dipswitch menu?, it should, right?)? I dunno about anyone else but not having the violence for these game makes them seem more hollow. Other than that great job so far, very entertaining. One last thing, could someone reupload the first level, I missed out on that one.

Guanobowl: I tested whether crouching increases your firing rate using a rocket launcher. It definitely does, meaning you could kill the mummy spawner faster by crouching while firing your iron lizard. About using the shotgun on the second stage boss, I think you could hit the boss twice while jumping. Once as you start the jump, then again as you're about to hit the ground. Two more things I found in the third stage: You skipped the fire bombs the first prisoner offered to you. I'm almost positive they would save time against the plane. Yes, more than the time it takes to pick them up. I think you could have chucked one or two less grenades at the helicopter and finished it off with an enemy chaser, which would save a grenade or two for the plane. Shadow Byrn: Try it yourself, but I'm sure only flame shot damage increases when you get fat (though maybe in X it's different). Shameless self-plug: http://speeddemosarchive.com/MetalSlug.html http://speeddemosarchive.com/MetalSlug4.html http://speeddemosarchive.com/MetalSlug5.html I will admit that the Metal Slug run is pretty bad, it has a lot of execution and planning errors, but I think the other runs are good.
