I read that topic at SDA, and this is a real shame. I've never been concerned about speedruns vs TASes and that whole debate, but it really sucks that Jacob lost interest in speedruning after watching the TAS. I mean the 70 star run is ridiculous, I'd have loved to see more from him.
At the time he lost interest, he was actually working on a 16-Star run, trying to get sub-18. He was at 18:08 when he stopped, and supposedly the 18:08 run wasn't recorded.

Hi, all. I'm new here, but I've been following this thread for a looong time. I think FODA is doing a fantastic job, and I'm highly anticipating the 120 TAS...

Actually, I think that could be improved by at least one and a half seconds. As soon as he enters the door, he runs to the end of the ground. That takes about a second, and it could be eliminated if he just jumped directly on to the slope. Also, at the end, he double-jumps into the wall kick. If he did a triple jump, he could slide attack in mid-air directly into the star. That would skim about half a second off. If FODA uses that method, this could probably help a little bit.

That's why TASses are so fast though. A lot of the tricks and elements in TAS runs were discovered on console, they were just perfected for the TAS beyond what a human could plausibly do on a console.

For such a short star, what mr robert z suggested is quite plausible on a console, it would just take a lot of retries. There is nothing requiring superhuman reflexes (besides optimal sliding times but...meh thats frame shaving). Regardless, I am always impressed with Myles' creativity, for example, top of the town in WDW. Can't wait for the next WIP, FODA, and I hope life gives you a chance to work on it soon.

For short stars, yes it is plausible. I was talking about doing it in a speedrun, specifically larger ones like the 120 Star run like the one FODA is doing.

I kn ow that, It's just it seemed like he was talking about how myles should have improved it, rather than how a TAS would improve it. Sorry if I was mistaken.

No, no, I meant that if FODA were to try and use that method, he could also use what I said to influence it, in order to make the TAS about 1.5 seconds than it would've been. Sorry for the confusion, I should have specified what I meant.

ANd about the 16 min Mario, do you know how its possible to performance the last 2 ugs, where he jump on the stairs and is suddenly dragged back? Cause i tried ad it didnt work. Thx ! XD

its not that difficult to do once you get a feel for it but the trick is a backwards long jump start at the bottom of the stair case and do a long jump forwards and while in the air and still holding in Z pull the analog backso your forwards long jump slows and eventually pulls backwards, when you land start mashing your A button as fast as you can important things to remember is that you hold Z down at all times from initial jump
