OMG SASTOPHER POSTED HERE... Hail my Peachy Master.... For TAS worthy SSB64 ideas: Fox has a infinite (at least pseudo infinite) with the first hit of the up air, which has a set knock back regardless of percent. Kirby can kill at any percent with his down aerial once off the stage. Pikachu has some amazing edge guarding which are accesible after combos. Ness of course has double jump cancelled aerials which have no lag. But would this equate to awesome playing or awesome TAS? >_>;
I made a vid showing the pseudo infinite ages ago. But it seems I didnt upload it to here. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4432798419449511468&hl=en DJC is awesome too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2baExmi71g EDIT:- You can get 0.0 seconds on BtT's/BtP's. I'm working on the BtP's. I know quite a lot about smash 64 if I may say so myself. Oh, big up Moogle! Thanks to his vid I was inspired to break his Yoshi BtP time. I've beaten the current Yoshi Board The Platforms World Record: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrvZLwisdgM It took aaalllll day!! (playing on and off) 413 re-records My time was 16"35. The current normal time record is 16"37. I think it's pretty much perfect... they are so damn good in normal time. Although there is no vid proving the 16"37 WR, the guy is highly respected in the BtP community. Who wants me to eventually make them all? =P It could take a loooong time, but it was definitely fun/frustrating to do this one.

Well, you're not allowed to start a movie from a save states, so a "run" would be every single BtP or BtT. And I suppose using the pause glitch would just be annoying and wouldn't really show anyone what the REAL time would be, so good work.

Shouldn't that movie have the "This is a tool-assisted demo for details see http://tasvideos.org " disclaimor at minimum? Even further, you ought to mention explicitly that you used slow-motion/frame advance.

Thanks. Then I'll just make the BtP runs individually. I don't mind that it wont get published. I'm also helping out the BtP community by giving them extra tips that they probably don't know about. Most of all, they are fun to make.

This forum is for tool assisted gameplay, no need to mention that I used frame advance. Obviously I did, right?

nice work, i dabbled in BtP and BtT a little in 64, my only notable score was Yoshi's BtT which was something like within .4 of the WR.

Just completed Ness BtP Bonus Stage. The current realtime world record is 25"00 by Malva00 (fyi: undoubtedly the best SSB player in the world) My time is: 24"47 446 re-records. Video: http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=4D90CE5667D3D36C http://rapidshare.de/files/29519613/24.47_Ness_BtP.wmv.html YouTube is down temporarily. Hardest thing to do was angling the spark recovery move. Double Jump Cancels also took some time to find the perfect angle(s). Stay tuned for the next BtP... Nice work controlling Ness's funny jumps! That was very entertaining. It's been so long since I've tried Falcon's stage, but your route looked weird to me--but I trust your judgement. Looking forward to the others (your Yoshi was fantastic!) :)

I'm TASing the Bonus Stages "Board the Platforms". You can choose when to play this by going to 1P and selecting from the Bonus Stage menu. There's also another Bonus Stage called "Break the Targets" which I will get through to later. My Project is to do all the BtP and BtT stages for every character. Will take some time =P

if that's your project why don't you make it a legit run? You'd just have to beat the game normally 4 times to unlock the 4 chracters, and then you can do all the BtP and BtT, until you have the final prize of SSB: sound test. that would probably be an accepted/published run.

The problem is though is that if SSB doesn't automatically save characters in the Nintendo64's internal memory (and relies on a memory adapter thing) then he can't make it a run since all videos here are required (for the most part) to start recording from a hard reset, meaning the characters he would obtain from beating the game would be lost. That's the way it was for me to unlock expert mode [in StarFox], which is why I'm not capable of making a submittable/acceptable run of expert mode. T_T

I know that. Maybe I worded it wrong but I meant that the TAS should include the game being beaten 3 (oops, not 4) times with anyone but I suppose someone who can kill quickly given tas advantages, First two on easy mode, third on normal for ness, then do all the break the targets and board the platforms, which along the way unlocks luigi. Ta-daa, submitable SSB 99% run (afaik the only way to unlock mushroom kingdom is with 200 vs matches and really that would be boring to watch).

I think we should have two runs. Start from a hard reset and unlock all characters, all stages(except mushroom kingdom, as stated before), beat all BtT and BtP. and Single Player beaten after a hard reset, on very hard, only using one of the original characters. And since you're going to encounter an enemy at the end of it, I think we might as well, unlock the character, also.

Do you honestly want to watch someone beat the game three times over? That was the problem with runs that required an "unlock" feature, as the game won't save unless only soft resets occur (like beating a game, or a manual input that resets the game without erasing temp memory), so the only way to really do something like this is to continue beating the game while recording until everything's unlocked. So the main issue here is pretty much replay value and time constraints there is in a game. I haven't played SSB in a while, but since it can be beaten in 5 minutes, (Thanks Dk Master for the correction, haven't played in a looooong time) take 5 minutes and multiply that by 3 since you need to unlock all the characters, and that's 15 minutes of SSB TAS running. Not to mention there's still Board the Platforms and whatever sidegames there are. As much as I <3 SSB, I don't think I could watch them beat it over three times. Two times is fine (with different characters) but three is a bit much. Then again, 15 minutes isn't that long, so whatever. Gaahhh I wish we could start recording from savestate T_T Anyhow, g'luck =D Edit: Oh, sorry. 5 minutes =] Edit #2: Fixed some grammar and added stuff xD

Can I have some of the shit you are smoking? ;) It would take quite a bit less than 10 minutes to beat SSB. As a benchmark, consider the adventure speedrun of SSBM takes less than 8 minutes: http://speeddemosarchive.com/ssbm.html#adv So beating the game 3 times could be feasible.

I'm not prepared to beat the game 3 times. x_x Beating the game simply isn't fun... and 3 times... I know Bisqwit wont publish it but I'm enjoying making these vids. Also, the ssb bonus stage pro's are finding them helpful. I'll put all the clips together at the end to make one big vid for your viewing pleasure.

Well, the three run's would be a sort of 100% thing(really 99% as pointed out earlier) but the real run would be played on very hard with a starting character. I'd watch them both, personally.

Could you... Beat the game the first time through on Very Easy, second on Normal (or Very Easy), third on Very Hard? Because you can't unlock Ness until the third victory anyway (Jigglypuff and C.Falcon have unlock-priority), you might as well make it the hardest. I imagine that during the run-throughs, each character will simply kill themselves as quickly as possible during the bonus rounds, since you are going to go back and do them again later (I'd like to see "flying off the top" sacrifices). This is a factor in choosing characters to run-through with: who can kill themselves the quickest, or in the most interesting way? ----- Personally, I'm not against a movie that starts with everyone unlocked (maybe not Luigi?) and then plays all the bonuses. (Maybe plays all bonuses with starting characters, beats up Luigi for variety, then plays bonuses with hidden characters). Alternatively, you could just include a savestate to jump to a point shortly before playing the bonuses. As for the Very Hard run, there could easily be a Very Hard run for every character. Sure, we can get the fastest time on the bonus stages, but what's the record on completing Very Hard? A new competition!

Wouldn't it be better for your total time to get the bonus stage records when they're presented to you anyway rather than redoing them later?

That's what I was thinking. quicker to do them as they're presented. find the three characters that can win the fastest, the first two on very easy for faster kills, third on normal (only 1 life for all of them), and do the stages then. then you have fewer characters to do when you have everyone except luigi. Unless one character is really much faster than everyone else, then just do everythign with that one, and do the bonus stages completely the final time. No matter how this gets done, I think making the run submittable would take priority over making clips and appending them all into one avi. Hell, if luigi is faster because of his smash up+B, then do the necessary bonuses to unlock him before doing single player. :)
