You DO know there is a run of this already don't you? Are you suggesting an improvement? If you are, I'm with you on that. Someone who has enough motivation to do this properly should definitely have a go at it. I'm sure there is lots to improve in Sleepz's old Famtasia run.
Being a total Zelda 1 n00b, I thought that Sleepz' run was the first quest *bangs forehead repeatedly on the table until it turns blue and eventually falls off*

I've done it up to partway through Level 7 (the last one before Death Mountain). At present, I'm about 30 seconds ahead of Sleepz' run. Anyone interested in seeing the WIP?

Oh goodie! I'm not much for WIPs but I can't wait for your submission.

I'm interested. I've found a (theoretical) way to shave off 10-15 seconds before even getting to level 2, so I wonder if you incorporated any of my findings. The only problem with my method is I can't get the @#$%ing wallhands to drop two fivers in level 1. By the way, search for the main thread and talk in that.

Just a quick note, you didn't start the game as fast as Phil or I did. Just gank the first 50 frames from Phil's video or one of my WIPs.

Your run looks really incredible for the most part. You incorporated all of the strategic changes I wanted except for one, which it turns out doesn't even work. (My idea was to exit level 2 with only one bomb, use it on a green molblin like you did, and have your item default to the candle to avoid an item switch ... unfortunately, it defaults to the whistle. I actually never checked that until now.) The only choice I take exception to is killing the blue octorok before level 2 for more bombs. In my opinion, that's not necessary, and it's a big waste of time. In several of the various strategies I tried I was able to manipulate drops prior to the blue octorok to obviate the need for stopping and killing it. I suspect it should be possible in your run, too.

Is this still being worked on, or is it up for grabs? I'd like to try this game, but does anyone have a updated copy of the route?

Well this clearly needs to get bumped. With Phil and Baxter's jaw dropping run of the first quest I'm salivating over this one now. Hopefully in less than 18 months? ;) I like their competition/collaboration method; seems like it would be even better with more sets of eyes (or maybe it would just be a headache-inducing morass of argument). Anyways, get to work y'all. ;)

Would it be possible to just continue the second quest run where the first quest run left off? It'd save the time needed to create a new file and input "ZELDA."

Yeah I was thinking about that too. If you started from an embedded savestate right when the first movie stops, it wouldn't really save time b/c you have to watch the whole hero of hyrule/credits thing. Course you could make the savestate later but that sounds cheat-y ;) The cool thing about adding to the existing movie is you could also easily make one movie that played both quests in well under an hour... so awesome!

It'd be possible, but considering that's usually done only when something's not accessible in the first playthrough, I have my doubts that it would be accepted. Besides, people look for the routes and techniques that're done in the bulk of the game; something like using a savestate just to save a few frames in spelling out "ZELDA" likely wouldn't make a big impact. Or, it wouldn't if I had my way. :E

Baxter and I were tossing around the idea of making a new 2nd quest movie starting in a few weeks. There's lots of room for improvement, but I wont' dare give any kind of estimate as to how long it will take.

Time to release a WIP of this second quest movie Morrison and I have been working on: WIP This WIP plays up untill level 8 is entered. You will notice that it's glitched up, due to entering it early. At this point we found another way of entering it about 4 frames faster without the graphics glitching up. This is probably better anyway. It might be fun for one level, but only level 8 will have different sprites for the enemies. After the level is completed there will only be additional dots on screen, which would probably be annoying anyway... so this glitch will probably not be included in the actual TAS. Either way, enjoy the WIP :)
