Phantoon keeps his eye closed for way too long when you use Super Missiles. It's probably not worth it.

I've only just got down to Brinstar, since I haven't been home and I had to fix this Arbetsfrmedlingen thing today :P EDIT: Heh, now I'm at Kraid's. I work slow and use a lot of reloading because I suck with my keyboard ^^ walljumping is cake now though.

Yeah, you should see my fingers sometimes they're all over the keyboard when loading/saving haha, also took me some time to learn everything, etc.

And is the Varia Suit needed when you already got Gravity?
Well, if you dont pick it you surely have to pick more energy tanks so you can take 1 hit from MBs beam.. With the suits it will take 3 energytanks.

Killing Ridley with the murderer beam makes the fight a little more interesting, but. Compares to my other run it will be a timeloss at about 3 seconds. Will someone notice? ;) Can be because it takes time to navigate the menus and to do the Murderer beam trick, which take approximately 4 sec :)

IIRC, the Varia suit becomes completely obsolete when you get the gravity suit. I've turned off the varia suit with the Grav suit equipped, and I've noticed no difference in the effects. They appear to be two completely different suits. I don't think hitting a boss missiles would work too well. A missile does 100 points worth of damage, and a super missile does 500. A charged plasma/wave/ice beam does 900 points of damage, IIRC. I don't have the emulator or game at my disposal to check the other numbers, but generally they're deadlier than missiles. It is slower to get in a shot, though, so it's best saved for waiting when a boss can't be hit. I don't know if fully powered charged shots would be deadlier to a boss than missiles, but it would be beaten by super missiles. Using those numbers, I'm sure someone can use the cheat search engine of the emulator, and find how much damage everything else does. Against a boss, it'd take 2 minutes to figure it out. Charged shots would be important on the water boss, where he flys by alot. One good charged shot on a flyby would be far more effective than one or two missiles.

Watched the lastest run. Nice work. But as some things got better it seems others got slower. The Draygon battle went a lot quicker this time, yet it felt like the Phantoon battle was longer. I've never seen him do that thing he did towards the end of the battle. What's up with the Murder beam? It obviously tears up Mother Brain (along with the graphics) but does it even faze Ridley? Doesn't look like it, and battle is certainly no shorter.

If what he says is true, you can skip the Varia. That'll cut whole seconds.

I guess it's a good thing it's not true then.

Ive done some testing/investigate.. and.. if I turn the varia off at Motherbrain ill die instantly like an ant on a warfield. The Varia cuts of 50% of the damage and skiping it would not be recomended. That means that I have to pick more enegy tanks. Which takes more time then picking Varia. I dont really know how the MurderBeam is attacking. But it seams that it does damage around the circle where I put it and Ridley is'nt the nice'st boss that will sit down nicely on the spot and die. ;)

Actually, that description is for the "Space-Time Beam", so-called because of its ability to perform the 'Reset-The-Game Glitch'. The Murder Beam is different. 1. Enable your beams in a 'normal' manner, then charge them up. 2. While holding the FIRE button, open the menu and use the trick to turn on both Spazer+Plasma but do NOT disable the Wave beam. Exit the menu while holding fire (so you can still choose where to drop it). 3. Make sure you are facing LEFT (if you are facing right, you will immediately crash the game); your charged-up beam should be pale green in color. 4. Move to where you want to drop the Murder Beam and release the Fire button. If you dropped the Murder Beam on a solid shootable object (like Mother Brain's head), there will be continuous 'explosion' sprites on that spot and the game will slow down considerably (and it will constantly attack her); otherwise, the effect will be invisible but you will still hear the 'charged up' sound in the background; anything that moves onto this spot (or an indeterminate amount of the surrounding area) will take damage until it moves away (assuming it survives).

Oh yeah, all this reloading has messed me up XD Edit: For those who are wondering how my run is going, I can tell you that I'm in Draygon's room (and I've used 11300 reloads :p).

Could someone tell me what the HELL Red Scarlet is about? http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=9418&topic=15411579 She's saying that someone made a emulated 47:04 min 100% run through SM. I can't find this anywhere though. EDIT: Apparently it's not up on any emu sites yet.... >_>
