John Madden is the Jay-Z of football commentary. As in, he keeps getting a lot of money for what he does despite the fact that all he does is sputter nonsense.

If it's the Frank Caliendo act where he does a John Madden impression, then Al Pacino and what's his name - George Dubya Bush, (I'm not allowed to browse youtube from work) then it's a lot older than a few nights, it's been sitting on my harddrive for a few months at least. Or is it a new one with the same characters? I agree that he does just about the best impersonations (impressions?) I have ever seen.

Generally, doing an impression means imitating someone's voice and mannerisms for comedic effect, while an impersonation is more often used to mean actually attempting to pass yourself off as someone else, for deception. Also, I'm curious, why would you immediately assume an argumentative and fairly condescending tone instead of just taking seven minutes to watch the video and determine that it was, in fact, new? (Never mind that you, perhaps, should have surmised that when I claimed something happened on Lettermen a few nights ago, I made such a claim because I saw it live.)

I thought that was called an imitation! An impression is when you press something into something else to leave a mark.

Great clip, thanks. Frankly, Letterman should have fed him more football questions because that makes the bit work best. The whole point of the impression is that John Madden never says anything important about the game.

Since you said Madden impression, and Bob said half of it was Bush, it sounded a lot like the one I had seen. About the date, people get misinformed all the time (descriptions on youtube surely aren't always accutrate, etc) so I thought I'd ask if it was this one or a new one. Not only is Frank Caliendo great, but I saw the one Red Sox game on TV where Dennis Leary was commentating for one inning. That was extremely funny

Another good standup comedian who does good impressions is Pablo Francisco. I remember watching his comedy central routine on youtube before, and it was pretty hilarious. He is very well known for his ability to imitate the voice of the 'Movie Voiceover Guy' and Arnold Schwarzenegger... go check him out too if you like Caliendo
