It doesn't appear to be faster than what I am already doing. And I am far ahead (almost done Spark Mandrill). But good find, though. Next time, could you put the frame counter in the .avi?

By any chance, is this your current plan, or can the jump be made without ice, is it more time-efficient to just do Launch Octopus first?

Ice requires the arm upgrade which would screw the route up. If I could do Chill -> Boomer -> Sting and get the heart upgrade on the first pass with just the boomerang, I could fight Storm Eagle with his weakness. That would save a lot of time, but I don't think it's possible to get the heart just with boomerangs because the boomerangs vanish off screen. If there is a way to jump far enough without the Ice, it would work though. I could go back to Stings stage after I beat Launch, though that would be more backtracking I'd have to do. I still need to test the route a lot before I do anything.

WOAH! That was super cool... omg, can't wait for this to be featured in the movie, unless an even better way exists?!? EDIT: Oh, just read OgreSlayeR's post... too bad then, for a moment I was hoping this would be nice...

The number after / is the HP of the miniboss. XB: The : separates charge. Number after & is dash-shot. Others: Ordered starting at Storm Tornado and going in order of boss weakness. The : separates charge. If no second number given, charged form (if any) does same damage as uncharged. Storm Tornado is still better against the sea serpent than Boomerang Cutter.

I've gotten so close to getting that heart with the boomerang! It's like 1 frame or so. I got it to where the boomerang doesn't dissapear, but it comes back not with the heart even though it grabs it... Ugh....

Just curious, but what part are you jumping from? I have been trying too, I have gotten the closest by walljumping off the third breakable block from the bottom. Could you post the movie where you were only a couple frames off from getting the heart tank? It would be really nice to see this trick in your 100% movie. also in the chill penguin stage, I was thinking of ways of getting the robot carrier armor up to where the heart tank is so that you wouldn't have to revisit the stage later on. It would be cool but I doubt its possible.

Here you go, have fun... Stop my movie after I hit 'Y' and move all the way to the right you'll see that it grabs it clearly. The dumb thing doesn't come back with it though. If you could some how keep the heart on the screen long enough the game would probably not delete the sprite. I went as far as I could, but maybe you can find a more optimal way and make it work. Good luck...

It isn't even close. For some reason, the boomerang has a wider sprite activation zone than the heart does. Edit: It's heading right that is the big problem. At the point where you go left just enough so that the boomerang no longer grabs the heart, you have to press right a dozen frames just to get the boomerang to grab it again.

One frame away! I'm only one frame from freaking getting the heart. I only need to press right one more time before I hit the wall. I just barely climbed wall by holding for 11 frames instead of 12 though. So I think it's impossible but just barely. Maybe one of you guys can get it because I give up for real this time.

I think you should just go and finish the intro stage now. Intro stage is depressing enough.

Oh I am. I'll worry about the route after chill Penguin. So if anyone is going to convince me to use a certain route, or if someone somehow gets the heart in Sting's level, do it before I'm too far ahead.

There is no doubt that you would save about 5 seconds (on Storm Eagle) if it were possible to grab that heart in Sting Chameleon stage. Given that this seems impossible, it would not be a total loss to just use the same route as FractalFusion's test run. Having the X-buster upgrade in Sting Chameleon's stage allows you to beat RT-55J faster, pass through one or two rock monsters, beat Sting Chameleon faster, and probably do some cleaner jumping at the start of the stage. Summing these savings together is still a far cry from making up for the lost 600 frames, but these are some nice opportunities nonetheless.

AnotherGamer pointed this out to me: A member of SomethingAwful's forums (named bean0r) recently stated that he had improved on the currently published movie by about 10 seconds after most of the Mavs were defeated. While I know that Fractal has probably improved by well over that, it would seem logical that the two should discuss the improvements to see if anything was missed.

I had been working on an any % run for awhile, and sort of lost the desire to finish it because it was flawed (again) and didn't have the motivation to redo the intro and Penguin again, but I had improved on DeHacked's time for what it's worth. I'm not sure anything I found would be of help to Fractal. I was using the Penguin -> Kuwanger -> Chameleon -> Eagle -> Mammoth -> Mandrill -> Armadillo -> Octopus route.

Same here, except I relegated Mammoth to last in order, which is not a big deal. I'm currently at Launch Octopus. When I find time, I will complete the battle and post the run in this thread. 20 seconds faster after Armadillo and 2.5 seconds saved in the Launch Octopus stage.

Launch Octopus done. Download movie. Basically, I'm 24 seconds ahead now. Now, it's just Flame Mammoth, then the fortress stages.

DeHackEd's got something in his script that will block IP addresses if you do something weird with it. You'll have to either PM him your IP, or get on IRC to tell him so he can unblock you.

I believe DeHackEd did this to prevent users from looking at other users' projects. So if there is no referrer (i.e. non-linked URL access), the script blocks the user.
