I loved the ladder climbing technique with Rush, is that old? you should make a full game run

YouTube runs at 30FPS so 60 is overkill I find weird that these TASes don't even beat the human records by a second, but they're fun to watch

well that was weird, it's not how I'm used to play the game lol but shouldn't you be boosting more? like in the air when jumping

I'd vote 100% Notes, Jiggies and Honeycombs only. No need for opening Note Doors, Mumbo Tokens or Witch Switches (since you can get some Jiggies without them). Basically, anything that's displayable on the Game Stats Total screen. But that's just my opinion.
agreed

Hello everyone. I'm considering beginning to TAS this game. I think that the current 100% run isn't near-optimized to it's full potential. I also believe that there are many more physics exploits to be found (think SM64). My question to everyone is, would you rather see a redone, more optimized 100% run, OR a completely new any% run?
unless you can find some cool level skipping glitches or the like, I don't think an any% category is even needed for this game and if you can find them, I'd like to see them, so I'd vote any%

Anytime you do a first frame wall kick, you are starting a chain of HSWK
a chain doesn't exist with just 1 piece, ever saw "1 hit combo" in fighting games?
I said starting a chain.
you can't start something that doesn't happen
I also said that with the clear intention of Mario wall kicking more than once.
no you didn't, nice try saving yourself =_= bolding "anytime" was exactly to make people think it'd be impossible to ban HSWK, because you wouldn't be able to WK anymore

Nahoc managed to produce a 16 star run in less than a week, where a number of these stars (like watch for rolling rocks and Bowser in the dark world) were considered unhexable by the SM64 community.
about BitDW, I was wondering how he was able to hex in that goomba hit so nicely, that's what I suppose was thought impossible to hex in? that about input files not counting lag frames actually sounds very nice, why don't all emulators do that? does it screw with the completion time count?

As for my 2 cents about categories, 0-star and 120-star, both allowing all glitches, make sense to me. These show the game pushed to the extreme in as many situations as possible. Another interesting category, and the most true to the original spirit of the game, would be a 70-star run without BLJing. It's definitely a hard problem to determine which 70 stars are the best to go for, and the lack of BLJ should hopefully make for really interesting strategies. Thus, I would say these three categories are the ideal categories for this game.
then you'd just have HSWK replacing BLJs, no point really, what you're looking for is "glitchless" imo categories should by any% glitched (0-stars), 100% glitched (120-stars with BLJs etc), and not sure which would be proper for glitchless, if any% or 100%, or maybe both but I guess they'd look way too much alike

Somebody humor me here. What is a side BLJ and how does it differ from a BLJ?
think of it like allowing up+down but not left+right

^that comparison makes no sense "SMB1 Walkathon" doesn't re-use an obsoleted strategy with better optimization to see how fast it could've been, it's a completely different category which was considered entertaining enough (apparently, I haven't watched it)

Voting no, this category is pretty much pointless. The 120 star run covers everything that the 0 star run doesn't, so why have this?

Looks good. So this is a 100% run i guess?
not exactly, we started the run with "highest possible score" in mind, but now that I think about it, that would make DK levels boring due to retries to get the required pattern… a 100% run wouldn't take all items in the level; getting all Minis, all cards and possibly all golden stars would already be a 100% I think, so we're not doing that though I didn't think about the DK levels before, that's gonna be a problem with the retries… but I guess "highest score" is still the most entertaining goal, 100% would leave some things in the level which I don't think would look good and is probably worse strategywise too, and any%, while it could have some nice suicide tricks etc, I think it would be boring because this is a puzzle game, and what's interesting is to figure out the best strategy, not how to get to the end ASAP

here's an encode http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6ueLugmMWM finally got the bottom screen only to work, but the entertainment is horrible because of YouTube's 30 FPS… you can't see any of the quick turn arounds in mid air

finished G-4 http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1866303750/MvsDK2.dsm time is 1329, I lost 5 frames due to the elevator not synching with the top Mini properly, not sure if that's improvable with subpixel manipulation and the like just 10 frames better would give a new score improvement… at the end of the TAS I found a new glitch, the fact that you can move out of the elevator while in midair, I didn't test it a lot but my first try at it looked optimized already, jumping at the latest possible frame and moving away at the earliest
