I know this probably isn't the best place to be asking about this, but I thought the people here might have the most experience. I'm trying to do some basic TAS stuff with a Sega CD game, but for some reason I'm finding that for all SCD games the music played from the mp3 files are played at at least double speed. I've tried changing the rate down in the sound options but that doesn't seem to change it. This happens with multiple versions of TAS Gens I've kept over the years, from the TAS tools 9 through 11b. Oddly enough, the Gens v2.14 that I've got plays it fine. Does anyone have any ideas what could be happening? Thanks

I was thinking earlier, if someone does finish a TAS of this game, there should be a note to the encoders that it's not an A/V desync that makes the music start so late, but rather it's delayed on purpose in case you end up moving back and forth through a screen transition rapidly so you don't hear each song starting over so many times.
Is that the reason for it? I always found it extremely annoying as a kid, as I wanted some of my favourite music to play when I was exploring certain areas and must have been a little impatient :P. But I do agree with that viewpoint nowadays a bit more.

Yeah, I've been watching some LPs of other Dizzy games, And you can see that they have taken a lot of the puzzles from the previous games. CPCGamer on YouTube as the fantasy world dizzy and magic island dizzy (I think that's what it's called). I'd say fantastic dizzy could be classed as a compilation of all the other games maybe… Including all the mini game ones. Especially considering you defeat Zaks in the same way as Sauron in magic island dizzy (while making a pact with the devil at the same time…).

These are really coming along. I've been watching a few things about fantastic dizzy since you mentioned did a few days ago, there are certainly a lot of things to consider for a speed run/TAS. I watched the speed run from your link, and I'm not too certain about some of the things they did, but I think I shall have another look. Is it really faster to go through the mine cart sequence twice is one example. No promises to anything yet. I'm sure your maps would be very useful to whoever does a TAS. I know it's different in the NES version, but in the Mega Drive/Genesis version you've got the annoying butterflies that are sometimes placed exactly the wrong position and knock you backwards. I watched some NES videos, and if I recall they reverse your controls? There's also the huge portion of where to put items, but I shall start thinking that through at another point.

Who would have thought a 5 year old topic would bring me back to this website... If a run were ever to be made of this, I'd definitely be one to look at it. I've considered doing a TAS over the years of this, but I just don't have the patience to do it. That, and I'd be more likely to do the Genesis Version. It's definitely a game worthy of a speed run/TAS though imo.

Are there still problems in emulating the game in mupen?

The reason they don't allow gameplay videos anymore is because of the Lets Plays from the somethingawful forum I think: it was good so they were using it a lot but Vimeo found that a lot of processing time was spent on them rather than others. So, instead of making their systems better they put that rule in. At least I think that's how it was... Looking forward to the next level!

I'd think it would be the same either way, if you TASed to figure out where all the pieces are. Edit: In a non-TASed playthrough of the game this would definately be faster, as you could explore the maps to find out where everything is faster, but with a TAS you already know where the pieces are as you've already played through that level and gone back with a savestate.

Who cares about savestates, it's been so long since there's been an update you should watch it all! Unfortunately I was a bit too tired when watching it and will have to watch it again. Luckily I still have all my savestates from the last update. Good Luck with the next stage. *Puts watching it again on his things to do in the morning*

*Starts tracking the thread* I'll start watching once my exams are over in a week or so. Good Luck until then.

I'm working on a project (unfortunately I can't say until I've finished with it) and I'm wondering if I could have some advice from people here (C++ programmers specifically). It's involved with computer games (emulator or other). What I need to be able to do is take a screenshot of the game, which I then need to know what colour each pixel is. I also need to be able to output a control to the game (like pressing a button or moving left/right on d-pad). This involves using C++ (as you've probably guessed already) and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or advice on how to do this. Thanks a lot for whatever help you give. Edit: I have access to both Windows and Linux for this, so people from both sides are welcome.

No. Tompa is right here, no questions asked. The duty of the runner is to make the movie, he has no obligation whatsoever to make savestates just for you. I'm sorry, but WIP watching is not about having everything catered to your needs. If that's what you think, then you're dreadfully wrong. As for the movie, I liked it a lot. I didn't mind the biting to walk faster thing, it was kinda funny. The deathwarp was also good, I don't know why you didn't do this in earlier levels.
There is no chance use deathwarp in earlier levels. Mumbo's Mountain, final notes is close to the level exit plate. Treasure Trove Cove, Sandcastle Jiggy + Notes is close to the exit plate. Clanker's Cavern, hmm it takes some time to drown... if i remember correctly, Banjo's oxygen was half when I enter the ground so no faster :P And Bubblegloop Swamp is complete. I tested Tiptup's songs again and I can't get that better. So its complete!
*Tries to remember level order* Freezezy Peak next? (however you spell it). Do you have any more time before you go back to school/college/whatever it is that you do?

Great work! Take your time with it, the longer you take, the more I'll be enjoying (not really anything else that interests me on this site atm) :(

What helps you fall asleep at night? Just going to bed, closing your eyes and dropping off, or is there something different? (I've tried music, audio books, watching movies / speedruns / tases.. anything to occupy my brain, to keep it from carrying on grinding everyday's problems. Maybe you've got a different approach?
I see you have the same problem as me... So I'll second this question.

Dear Fabian, What do you think of the big and well-known MMO World of Warcraft? Would you shut it down forever if you could?

Well it's a definate "Yes" vote for me. I disagree with pretty much all that's been said against this run apart from one thing: that it seems like things are planned as they come rather than planning the whole lap and doing the same thing each time (it only looks it from first view, but of course each lap isn't the same as you have more bananas each time around and other racers are in your way later on). I don't think there is much that can be optimized, much more than it already is (there's usually something). Good work.

I use Windows Media Player Classic (not WMP), I haven't tried others. I'll try in VLC once I make another video.

I've been trying to get video out of Gens for quite a while (with sound) but for some reason beyond my knowledge, the audio plays back at a different rate than the video so it slowly goes out of synch. I've tried using XVID and Windows Media Video 9 and they both do the same. I tried using ffdshow but it only records the first frame for some reason. Full Frames records audio and a black screen. I'm using version Z and I'm on Windows XP in case you were wanting to know. Does anybody have any ideas to help me on this? Edit: I've made a temporary solution of using windows media encoder, but i don't want to have to every time.

INTJ which is Introverted Intuitive Thinking Judging, scores are 56 62 1 67. I don't agree with the 1% thinking though.

The Sega Saturn special stages were basically an updated version of the Sonic 2 special stages, that is if my memory serves me correctly. It was all done in proper 3d though and was amazing at the time. I own the PC and Genesis versions, and used to own the SS version.
