Well, you'll probably need to choose a game without a lot of crazy glitches, or a really well-known game where people will understand the significance of those glitches. Something like Super Mario Bros. would probably work well, though we have a ton of info for that already. But immediately starting off with, say, Sonic the Hedgehog, which involves pretty much being invisible for the whole first few levels would not be ideal, in my opinion.

Right now, the first link on that page links to a page with a uTorrent download, not the source code for bitTorrent. Does somebody know where I can find the source code?
I guess this is just an April Fool's joke on their part, but yeah.
I'd be able to do a better job if I figured out that damn python script, but it looks like the bittorrent site is suffering from April Fool's Day shenanigans as well, so I can't get the source at the moment >_>
Yeah, I knew what was going down, and my post wasn't serious either.
You raise a lot of interesting points here, OP, and I really wish there was something I could do for this site. For right now, I help host the torrents of runs, because that's easiest. I think I've improved a few runs with ideas based on things other users have found, but maybe not. I would love to actually start TASing games (I use a lot of TAS tricks in normal(/emulated) play after discovering this site, and I apply the TAS mindset to all the games I play now. Can't tell you how often I think "How would a TAS overcome this, and can I do that in realtime?"), yet it seems like all of them already are in progress by those far more skilled than I.
I guess what I'm asking is:
I host files
I give feedback and ideas, both in-thread and on your YouTube videos
I tell my friends about this site, but they only take a casual interest, watching the video and moving on
I can't seem to find any games that have not already been TAS'd or are not already BEING TAS'd by people better than I.
What can I do to further help this site thrive?
in my opinion it's just not ok to publish such a run, because people, that are not really experienced with speed running zelda (not actually TASing) will think, that this guy did the most optimized and best TASer ever.
The hell? So, it's specifically because the average viewer will think this is such an awesome TAS that you're wanting to block it? Head. Desk. Head. Desk.
Is this really what TASing is? An esoteric software engineering exercise for a small clique of elite gamers to enjoy amongst themselves for their towering achievements in practically applying technical expertise and knowledge? Honestly, in some ways this site is like an academic symposium full of professors droning on endlessly about their thesis research, and I mean that in both the most complimentary and the most derisive sense possible. Yes, the technical prowess of a competent TASer inspires me with both respect and awe, but on the other hand, I've never much cared for the frame-count dick measuring contest so many of them seem fixated on.
If a fully optimized run were to beat this one by a full 5 minutes, how many times more entertaining can you promise it would be to the casual TAS watching public that this run is somehow going to ruin them? Honestly, I think you're more afraid that you don't think that a fully optimized run can actually squeeze any more entertainment out of this game. Faster it might be, but will it be that much more amazing to the average viewer? In other words, it sounds like you're saying your anxious over whether this run might be everything a Zelda 64 TAS needs to be. If not, prove me wrong not by trying to sabotage this run, but by amazing me with your own.
The reason many like TASes is because it's like programming but more badass, so I'd say yes, that's spot on.
I voted yes, because, with the understanding that once the current OoT TAS is finished and obsoletes this, this will be off the first result for OoT TASes. If it's faster, it's faster. End of story.
If it makes you feel better, feel free to note that this run makes entertainment vs. speed tradeoffs.
I think that this is pretty useful, since it has the annotations to explain all the tricks. A good way for newbies to learn the TAS tricks for SMW.
Rather, I'd link it instead of the Viddler one >_>
The search function confuses me, so, quick question to those TASing this game:
When does the game roll for stats and gender of the starters?
Additionally, is there a wiki or something similar that documents all this RNG manipulation business for Pokémon so I don't have to bump this thread for future silly questions?
Antoids: it's not the existence of an avatar, but the fact that when the post was originally made, the avatar was somewhere on the order of 600x600 pixels. It's since been downsized, rendering this conversation a bit hard to follow.
Honestly, is it really necessary to have an avatar where the option exists?
How dare someone use functions built into the forum but obviously not meant to be used?
Happens in a lot of areas. If you find Navi turn green anywhere that the scarecrow song doesn't work or it doesn't come up with a sheet, you're supposed to play Sun's Song, Song of Storms, or Epona's Song. You can't bottle the magic fairies and they only restore 7 hearts.
Well. unless you wanted the cannon for a free run, it's not terribly useful, since anything you might need to do on the roof, you can do by jumping up there. And if it's just for testing purposes, you can just cheat it open to save time.
Haha, I understand. I have several projects in the corner of the Internet I call home and I do the same :P I apologize if I came off as not understanding how time consuming TASes can be.
I apologize because this question is probably asked every page, but a quick CTRL + F did nothing for me: What's a rough estimate of when the 120-Star run will be complete?
It looks a lot cooler to get the medal, and speed is not a factor in this run, just score and entertainment, right?
So I see no reason to down your allies. Even non-TAS, you can killsteal from Falco pretty easily, so I see no reason to kill him in a TAS.
Probably not worth the necro, but when you enter the Red Dragon's volcano, you can save a little time by casting escape dungeon or using the item for it. It teleports you to the next room as opposed to where you actually enter. This is probably true of other dungeons as well, I just happened to discover this by accident.
Ahh, Minish Cap. Now that's one of the rare few games that I never played but would still love to see done. My era of Zelda gaming ended after ALttP in the early 90's, when I got into role playing games. Minish Cap has very colorful and pleasing graphics, and my youngest brother swears I would like this game much better than the other Zelda games I beat.
Doubtful. It's more or less the worst Zelda game.
I suppose it's still Zelda which makes it not bad, but to say you'd enjoy it more than LttP is simple blasphemy.
