1. Does this game look interesting enough to be publishable?
I think it does. It is basically Sonic without steroids, which should be good enough. It includes lots of running to the right, but hopefully some nice tricks will emerge sooner or later.

2. What do you think of the difficulty?
I think being able to take damage makes the run more varied, so it is a good stylistical choice.

Great game choice! I'm sorry that I have no time to watch the whole run, but here is my old cancelled WIP for the game: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5686/loneranger6boss.fcm I was about 1500 frames faster in the first chapter. More info here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1966 I didn't watch the whole run, so I'm not voting, but I hope to see an optimized run for this game in the future! What I saw from the first chapter, it looks like a very good first submission by goofydylan8, anyway! EDIT: Oh well, I watched the whole run now and the gameplay has consistent precision throughout. Even though the routes are not perfect, most of the action was nicely done. Voting YES for a good first run for the game.

I like your WIP. I didn't expect it to be so fast. Those who haven't played the game will probably not like it though. It has a chance of getting rejected as a bad game choice. :(

Then why are bad games rejected here, when there clearly is a minority audience for them?

Uh, this TAS missed at least one instance of going through a wall, early in level 2. It would save 10-15 seconds. The trick is also performed inferiorly in some places by using an unneeded parkour animation while exiting the wall. Together with better web swing speed control, sub 6 minutes should be possible here. Voting meh.

I own 0 games at the moment. The highest number of games I ever owned was about 5. All were PC games. I think five was still too many considering one of them was Mortal Kombat II. I have never owned a console and I probably never will. I'm also not going to buy any games, ever.

Has anyone considered the possibility of taking knockback boosts from enemies to save a few frames? If I recall correctly, the only knockbacking enemies were some vipers in act 2, some water creatures in act 3 and some exploding enemies in act 5? (There are probably more than that.) For full effect, the idea would be to manipulate a line of enemies and get a long series of knockbacks from them. Would it require fast damage recovery to be effective? Or is this a completely useless idea for some reason? (I'm not expert with the game. Only completed it once.)

I came to the conclusion that the "indian cover" may be useless in a TAS. Skipping it saves a few seconds. You then need to dodge the homing axe thrown by the cursed indian painting. It should be possible, because I can almost do it in Dosbox without rerecords. It may require saving and loading the game to mess up the trajectory of the axe. The player is invulnerable during the drinking animation which can be prolonged indefinitely by holding some button, so if all else fails, using the flask helps absorbing the damage. Oh well, I can't TAS this myself, but I can revive the thread with a well aimed triple post. RISE FROM THE GRAVE! *click*

Wow, I actually owned this game. Watching this TAS about time traveling feels like traveling back in time. The game seems to be emulated perfectly. The character speed, sound effects and the unnecessarily long pieces of instrumentation... Everything looks so... 486! It was also played extraordinarily. The cursor movements while waiting, route planning, cursor precision... Everything looks strangely funny and TASsy.
Perhaps a future run of this game might include a TAS of Ms. Astro Chicken.
Well, this run actually did it, but the minigame category just happened to be fastest death instead of high score, am I right? A little TAS within a TAS? Or Roger Wilco speedfailing a game in a TAS? But does this TAS really "use death to save time", because it is not the player character who dies? Roger is only using the game machine as he would use any other item, thus he does not use death to save time. On the other hand, the player is fully controlling the virtual virtual chicken and deliberately kills it, so technically it is no different from any other death shortcut. But the minigame can be played repeatedly, so the chicken is not really dying at any point. So, which one is it? Uses death or doesn't use death? I'd say it uses death as a shortcut. The deaths being in a game within a game won't change the situation. The input is still delivered by the TAS author and it just happens to be someone else than the main character who dies in a direct consequence of that input. Good work, c-square! A very impressive first submission!

The overworld was slightly funnier than average for an RPG. The fights were also funnier than average for a GB RPG. The chnical quality was OK for this particular GB RPG. (I know, because I tested it a very long time ago while searching for short VBA RPGs to TAS.) The vote is Y for an average TAS, although the whole experience was below an average DK TAS.

Great to hear you're interested, Mr. NitroGenesis. I believe minor improvements are possible in the overall precision and lag-reduction. I am not aware of any major improvement, but the game has gotten very little attention compared to the NES game, which has seen 8 publications! The game is a bit more complex than the NES SMB. which has seen 16 warped run publications. Statistically, the probability of a major timesaver is very high here. You just need to find the right item to use in the right place. Or the wrong item in the wrong place. Good luck!

Lol - this and the NES run are of exactly the same length.
They also have the same overall rating at the moment: 7.1 It is the international standard for this game series. Because today... TAS means Tool-Assisted Standard. How about fixing the situation by improving the GB version?

So, nobody worked on this? Well, here's the first four enemies done again, faster than before, but it is still not good: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/510102567/doubledragon-better-but-still-not-good.gmv The enemy movements are difficult to control, but it should get easier after the first fight. Go go go, as they say!

Anoobis is pleased. The river looks right. Anoobis, God of Death, used his power to die in the first river level two times, then dying once in the second mine level, then using the continue screen to skip part of the level, but the result is 330 frames slower: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/713883208/taz-deathtest-330frames-slower.gmv It would have been a surprising approach to the problem of obsoleting everything, but there seems to be no way to die any faster. This trick could be used for one of the upcoming temple levels too, but Anoobis, God of Failure, is pretty confident that the approach would fail there too. Soon, Anoobis may be busy for a while. He hopes the project will thrive even without him.
