yes, i have used save-states in my playing of it. However, i did seem to notice a small bug with them. On some levels, if i loaded a state after "respawning" i didnt get lasers back, but kept the same bombs/lives/wingmen i started the state with before. Happened twice, once on Meteo and once on Venom 2. I used the hotkeys for saving. Shift+f9 for saving.

My mupen and starfox saves my data. I never un-rared the rom.. While recording from sram and savestates isnt typicaly allowed, you might have to settle for a normal run, (unless an exception is granted, of course) Or, unearth a code or trick to start with expert mode. High score run. with the crosshairs or without. Dont matter to me.

frame perfect charging and pixel perfect amining can make for some interesting kills. Especialy in lvls like metos and area 6, where everything is destoryable (well mostly). And of course, expert mode increases the enemies that appear,

Out of curiosity, wouldn't it be possibly to plug your computer to the TV via S-video or something, replay a movie file in a emulator in fullscreen while recording what's shown on the TV to VHS, and claim that what's on the VHS was recorded from console? Or is it a way of seeing that what you have on VHS really is from console and not from computer? If you can record runs from emulator to VHS, wouldn't it be a simple thing to submit such a VHS to Speeddemosarchive and claim it's a legit console speedrun? I don't know if what I said is even possible, but I'm just wondering :)
very possible. Infact, probly too easy if you knew how. Of course, you'd have to be clever enought to not use frame advance on sections faster then humanly possible, like menus, cause it would be obvious to the SDA fans.

one of the gamefaqs guides has a sorta "leaderboard" on it from a points run. 1725 is the score to beat there. The route: Corneria Meteo Katinia Sector X Macbeth Area 6 Venom 2

yes, but the quetion is, is it entertaining? This game is already limited by time factors. There is little to manipulate in luck, so going for the best score over time would seem to be the ideal.

Keep in mind that a high score run will likely involve holding brake a lot and dying after checkpoints (to replenish bombs).
Yeah that's right, I didn't thought about that =/ But there should be a high score run And a speed run... Where, for example, most of the ennemis are not destroyed and where the accelerator is used during all the levels. In the high score run, it would be like you said. Maybe one would be more interesting that the other, but even if for the moment, just one of them is done, it would be very cool, because I love this game ^^
when you die, you kill count gets reset. I'd rather see a Max kills run in the form of a score run.

although it would add difficulty, getting no laser powerups would be interesting to see. That, and using the hardest route. or the most points route.

I love this game, and would vote yes for the movie, but cant watch it at this time. I'm sure its worthy of a vote.

i have a small suggestion. Do the 4 gold cards first, then do the time card last. I think it would be more entertaining to watch, since i sorta got turned off by the time card first. Might just be a prefrence, but i think it would make the run better.

Maybe a Witch Switch piece, or a Jinjo piece if too many Jinjos are too far out of the way.
The tree lvl jingos seem like a good option to skip. (i think its the 2nd or 3rd to last lvl.) It's been awhile here too.

i loved this puzzle game as a child. Problem is, each lvl ends with like 35 seconds of unskipable time. (much like bubble bobble) Could make for a boring TAS

This was a terrible decision. Break the Targets would be, by far, the most interesting part of the game to speedrun. Maybe someone's mentioned this already, but it would be great to have TAS's of just the bonus stages for each character, like the Super Smash Bros Melee BTT videos.
Agreed. It's the one part most of us ether strived to do, or to see done. The run could be called 100% Fox, if you complete all there is to do in the run. (kill every one, pass the trials, unlock the extra char.)

So Metal Mario isn't faster at grabbing the eight red coins in the Metal Cap stage?
We'll know when i get there :) pushing the switch or not is independent from the rest of the game. I'll try to do something to not need to push the switch, but if there's no way around it...
a thought... What is the difference between say a 100% run, and a 120 star run in Mario 64? By hitting the switch, i believe you complete everything there is to do in mario 64. Correct me if i'm wrong. You can still label it a 120 star run, but hit the switch. my two cents

I know the two games are similar, but so different, but the mario 120 star run un-polished is 30-40 minutes faster. Mind you, there is alot less to get mario, but i could see a tas of this breaking the 2:15 mark.

err, Is there something i could be doing wrong when loading the savestates? I run the rom I run the movie I wait a few seconds to load the state Nothing happens (as in mario doesnt move, or menus dont advance) Happened with both the WIP and the completed test run, both savestates. edit: read the post above about read only and stuff. Forget it :P

I tried loading that savestate, and it started me at the titlescreen (with Mario's 3D face)...
there is no "slot 0" unless i'm just dumb. (very possible) I watched the second WIP today. While some 100 coin routes look the best, some looked iffy. (hazy maze comes to mind right now) Great job otherwise.

i am exited to see this run. I did attempt a two-player run of it while back. The grenade this is emulated differently from 3 roms that i had of this game. I cannot remember the difference, but i do remeber there was one. (had to do with the grenades and weapon drops) I'd post my WIP, but i lost it to a hd crash :(

For Refrence: Ps1 version was 2 player, 64 version was 4 player. This game is high on my intrest list for 64 tas. Interesting to see if it is faster to get the "weapons" for the bosses, or just go all-out on them.

wow pointless topic. "two women were arguing over what color a sweater was. One said teal. The other said sky blue. When they asked the store clerk he said. "Its a blue. "" You can call them whatever you want. I call them time-attacks. Alot of the videos try to "attack" the length of the game. Speedruns have been the name of the compitiion of human play attacks. I could make a tetris "score attack" or a contra "pacafist attack" They still aim at time as an objective. By leaving the tool-assisted header, all we do is tell them. "HEY!!! We used this list of stuff to become super" People who are bugged by this, bug me. Just like forum "grammer and spelling whores" We are not all perfect. (steps off the podium.)

i combed the FAQ, but i can't find any help. I've filled bisqwit's form out on his site, and everything is filled. When i browse to select the .zip file, and save, i get the same page back, with this message: Your input is incomplete. Changes were not saved. might be something simple, might not. Any help or abuse is taken. :)
