http://maddox.xmission.com/ I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned. Read every article. I have. http://speeddemosarchive.com/ Self-explanatory. Although I don't know how many TASers actually watch speedruns. But I speedrun too (going to submit my first run soon). http://tasvideos.org/ Obviously. And.. that's it.

Heart management won't really be a problem if I'm going to redo the run. Then I'll just have to test which hearts are fastest to obtain.

Thanks for your input, VANDAL. I'll have to test that Frankenstein trick. I don't remember if I've tested how much time it takes to recover life at the end of stage...really should test that. But I know the orb drops at random frames, depending on your position. I gained a fair amount of frames manipulating this. Also another little optimization is not to grab ladders asap with Grant. His walking speed is only 1pixel/frame when grabbing the ladder, and 1,25pixel/frame normally. It's easy to miss when doing stuff only visually. If you can think of anything else, do post. You have a good insight at this game.

I don't know how many people are aware of this, but I've been working on a Grant TAS a little. Here's my WIP. 623 frames ahead currently. I've been messing around with the stair glitches too. I was able to kill a boss in glitch room, but it wasn't possible to grab the orb because it needs to land on something first. It just kept looping the screen because there was no platform. So, yeah, I've been able to do only the same stuff as others have, nothing new. I don't believe it would be of any use. Anyway, about the WIP, I have pretty much killed every boss faster, which was a big surprise for me since they were already very fast fights. Also other little improvements in almost every stage. Killing the first boss with III holy water turned out to be like a second faster. Also cursed Grant fight was faster. I haven't progressed in a while since I haven't been able to do anything fancy with the second mummy fight. Once that's out of the way, I should finish it in no time. Although, I'm most likely going to redo from scratch because I've missed some little things.

I'm definetely interested in a new MMX2 TAS. I watched your wip and it looked great so far. It's about time to confirm whether or not 100% is the fastest way to beat this game. Gogogo!

There's a game on Gameboy called the 4-in-1 funpack. It includes Chess, Checkers, Backgammon, and Reversi (Othello). The Chess engine is Sargon, which acts really stupid in that pack for some reason. Beating it quickly would probably be pretty boring. What can be interesting however is exploiting the engine. My father called me over one day to watch him play. He starts making one bogus completely irrational move after another. And the computer responds just in kind. My father moves his Queen right next to the computer's with no strings attached, and the computer, just goes ahead and moves a pawn. My father showed me how to knock off every single piece the computer had, without losing a single one of his own, and then checkmating it. I should probably ask him for the move list, as it'd be pretty funny to watch.
This sounds quite fun. :) I'd watch such a movie.

Mega Man 1 beaten in ~23:44 I had posted a 23:53 here earlier, so this one is slightly faster. I just watched andrewg's mm1 speedrun he did in sda speedrun marathon, and felt like playing. I'm really rusty in this game but was able to complete a run. Has mistakes, but still, it's faster than current sda run. Although Trevor Seguin made a 22:57 he never submitted to sda. Edit: no glitches used

I'm trying to do a Super Demo World any% TAS, but for some reason I'm a few frames slower than the current TAS before the first level even starts. I'm using Snes9x 1.51+v6. Is there any difference between Snes9x 1.51 and 1.43 that I should know of? I heard 1.43 has less lag than 1.51, but I'm not sure about that.
Yeah, there are differences. You could try TASing the start with 1.43 to see if it's that, or if you're just doing something wrong.

Out of curiosity, is there anything happening with the improvement to this run? I haven't found a forum thread for the game, and this new gimmick in Gimmick! looks like it should be awesome.

Played fine for me with the ROM I've always used. It looks really good, I'm diggin' it! I hope to see this finished one day. Looking forward to seeing more WIPs.

NewPPU isn't exactly a real NES either, so just ignore it. We want to see those glitches in action. Also it's more fair to use same setting as Deign had when obsoleting his run.

It's nice to see an improvement so soon. I thought about waiting to see the final product without watching any WIPs before that, but I might take a look at it sooner.

Eww, somehow I thought this was just "TAS of 2009". I'll second Mega Man 2 and Bionic Commando. Can't come up with anything else right now.

MM1 & MM2 are very similar. Feel free to disagree with this, but at least give some credit that it was a reasonable decision that was thought out.
How the hell can you say that? The gameplay is pretty similar but the glitches are done completely differently. You use completely different techniques to move.
A person who hasn't played Megaman games won't see a big difference. Both speed through the stages backwards through walls and rape the game.

I don't agree with Nach here. This really shouldn't be rejected. While it lacks some new techniques to make it faster, it is an entertaining and very well optimized run. The quality is higher than a lot of published TASes. Eventhough it could be improved, we aren't exactly going forward for not publishing this. There is still a slow mm4 TAS published on the site that really begs for an obsoletion. Also it's not like we would get a new mm4 TAS anytime soon; it might take a long time, as Glitchman is known to have other projects too. A lot of people will miss out on ever seeing this run if it gets rejected. Publishing it, however, gives our general viewers new content and a fantastic run over an old and 30 seconds slower TAS. It's a pretty popular game(series) too, and deserves an update.

However, some of it looked a bit sloppier than it should have been, and I think this run can be improved quite a bit. Possibly even more time can be shaved off of this run than this run did to the existing one.
I dare you to spot sloppiness in this TAS.

I believe the boss route needs improvement.
Posts like this shouldn't be made unless you actually give some information on how to improve it. Also if you haven't got information, which I believe is the case here.
