Doesn't the H.264 codec support varying resolutions within the same video?

Go for Cinema; encoders could always crop out the black bars.

He's done them for Super Metroid as well, so I would imagine that the answer is yes.

Could someone who's familiar with the game provide subtitles for the dialogue/plot? That was a humongous help when I watched neo_omegon's Lagrange Point run.

I'd also like to point out that it appears that the run starts from SRAM to save the time it would otherwise take to scroll and select Lost Levels. I'm pretty sure that's not allowed. Too, this uses the JPN ROM, although that's not a big deal for me since the text is in English anyway.

Got to agree= with MUGG on this one; this looked way too similar to the published Mario run. I won't vote No, because this was technically good, though.

Personally, I'd say a good Street Fighter II run would just play Versus Mode and show off every character.

That was awesome. The "glitched stuck frame" glitches were especially awesome. Yes vote for sure.

I watched the run on Youtube, and it was okay. My suggestion to you is to do a warpless run with Luigi, to show how his different physics results in different gameplay.

Randper Kombat was a good choice; it helps keep things fresh. Late Fatality by Stryker to Sub-Zero was amusing. From what I'm seeing, you basically do nothing but beat the opponent. You don't try (very hard) to look cool, and you don't show off. I'm sorry, but this does not look like a TAS. It looks like real-time play by a very good player. This, in combination with the previous problems I mentioned, basically means that you don't have a chance of this being accepted. Additionally, fighting games generally must have a LOT of entertainment value to be considered for publication. As examples of the kind of thing we look for, check out [934] SNES Mortal Kombat II "playaround" by VANDAL in 22:43.68 and [1333] SNES Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 "playaround" by SDR in 16:46.58. I'm not trying to be mean, just being straightforward. Stick around and show us some works-in-progress in the appropriate threads, and there'll be plenty of people willing to watch and help you out.

Not to be rude, but this is almost guaranteed rejection, for two reasons. 1. Beginning from a savestate. This is almost NEVER allowed, except to access things like hard mode. Apparently, you begin from a savestate to save the time of activating the cheats in the trainer. Pre-setting up like this is VERY not allowed. 2. If you wanted to access the cheat menus, you should have just put the codes to access them in yourself, in the [!] dump, instead of using a dump with a trainer on it. Watching your movie now; I'll give my thoughts when I'm done.

And as far as the submission, it's arukAdo's standard practice to edit in the actual submission text later.

That was incredible. The new whip tricks, the use of subweapons (or rather, just the cross), the overall optimizations...and it's less than two minutes of improvement? Phil and Genisto must have done a HELL of a job back in '04. Enthusiastic YES vote.

If it won't let you open it at all, you're probably trying to use the wrong version branch. Super Metroid is mostly TASed with SNES9X v1.43+, but there's also v1.51+ and v1.52+.

I don't disagree, but the only change(s) in FireRed 386 are that all of the Geneneration 3 Pokemon can be caught without trading; there's no modification to the quests.

The problem with that is that, IIRC, the Generation 2 and 3 Pokemon will not spawn at all until you've completed the Sevii Islands quest and linked Bill's system with Lanette's system. The FireRed-386 hack I linked to some months ago does not have this limitation, so I'd say that a FireRed run should use that.

Oh, that's what you meant. Personally, I can't see any reason to have a vanilla FR/LG run published alongside the existing Generation 1 games, unless there's suddenly a huge demand for a completely glitchless run.

I don't have the time, nor the patience, to do a TAS of any reasonable quality myself; I wanted to get word of this hack out for others to see.

This particular ROMhack is by Phantom Renegade from The End of the Internet, previously known as LUELinks or LL, which is where "fLLare Red" comes from. The aim of this ROMhack is to make every Pokemon in Generation 3 worth using. I'm unassisting it at the moment, currently preparing to head to Mt. Moon; so far, it's a lot of fun. Unfortunately, Phantom Renegade didn't finish the postgame before starting on a sequel hack. The hack also includes a lot of risque humor, such as Professor Oak being an over-the-top pedophile. The IPS patch, as well at a MTHML single-file copy of the LUEpedia page on fLLare Red, are on my Mediafire, here; patch the IPS to Pokemon - Fire Red Version (U) (V1.0).gba with CRC32 DD88761C.

There has been a precedent for rejecting a run because a better one is in production (see #668: atro city's Genesis Streets of Rage 3 in 46:18.77) but it's a bad one, IMO, because what if the authors of the "better" run lose motivation and quit, as apparently happened with the example I linked? Additionally, known improvements are no longer a reason for rejection; see the Judge Guidelines stemming from Nach re-decision on #2521: GlitchMan's NES Mega Man 4 in 34:00.02. Personally, I was hugely entertained by this one. I love Super Metroid and all of its' incarnations, and this delivered almost non-stop action, and lots of clever sequence breaking. Strong YES vote.

Okay, cool. Up to 1-4 in your WIP at the moment; you're doing a fantastic job entertainment-wise.

Speaking for myself, it would be nice if you didn't overuse the 1-1 skip, as it's boring to see the same level completed multiple times. Trading speed for entertainment is generally an accepted practice, although I do see the other side of the coin, which is that any artificial restriction on using it is arbitrary. As for your WIPs, watching them now. Could you post your SMV on DeHackEd's Microstorage script? http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php

I'm an idiot. I've been stuck trying to get the to Chozodia for like a week, and here that icon I thought was a bomb block was a missile gate trigger. Anyway, great run, strong yes vote.
