I watched about half the run, enjoyed it, but I'll save my vote for when I've finished it. Few questions.
You say you know that the 1/1 swimming could have saved time. If you knew, why didn't you use it?
Why did you go about the Vacant Ghost House the way you did? Wouldn't it minimize the backtracking to hit the secret exit first? (This confused me about jimsfriend's run too.)
I've got a couple.
Ryudo from Grandia II is probably my number one; he goes from the very definition of "anti-hero" to the savior of the world as the game progresses.
JC Denton from Deus Ex is in a similar vein. Initially part of a military police organization in a dystopic near-future world, he discovers the corruption therein, rebels against it and the system it defends, and eventually plays a key role in the destiny of the world, culminating either in his apotheosis, a new Dark Age, or a return to government essentially as it is today.
For SNES, my setup is:
Arrow keys: D-Pad
ASDF: A,B,X,Y, in that order
WE: L,R, in that order
G: Pause Emulator
Q: Frame advance
~: Rewind
=: Increase emulator speed
-: Decrease emulator speed
Roughly the same for Genesis, but I don't do Genesis TASing yet.
Pretty simple for me.
1. Ham
2. Bacon
3. American cheese
4. Provolone cheese
5. Sometimes mayonnaise.
6. Sometimes toasted bread.
I'm not gonna go into fast food or I'll be here all day. (Though I will say that Burger King's new Steakhouse burgers are fantastic.)
Quoted for agreement.
I don't agree, however, about being overleveled. If he'd done what you (kind of) suggested and kept leveling to a minimum, almost every battle would have been him spamming Rock Candy (or other Bomb items), which, although (probably) faster, would have seriously hurt the entertainment value, IMO.
As for fighting Booster, he probably didn't because he needed the Amulet you get for successful avoidance.
I did have it right, then? Dunno why, but I had the idea that the title screen didn't have to fade all the way in. The frames you hit the buttons on are definitely different with ZSNES.
Not sure what your problem might be; ZSNES hasn't given me any trouble with recording, aside from desync trouble.
Ah, that's why you suggested that. I'd've done that to begin with if I'd known. I didn't notice any lag when I was watching it, though; I'll take another look and see; if I notice any, I'll restart from there.
You're saying to let them pass me, then blow them up before they can turn back around?
About 300 frames; my estimate with my last WIP must have been off.
ZSNES does have TAS tools (rerecord, resume recording, etc.) in v1.51, and it isn't nearly as bad about desyncing. What version were you using to make you think it's be a problem?
(Also, no further progress. Gonna redo the highway from the start and see how much I can improve it.)
I've got the MMX Tricks page saved to my flash, and the frames in question didn't make it work properly. I was able to clear past the Capcom logo at 340, and I'm not sure on everything else. What I basically want to know is if these frames are specific to playing it on SNES9X, because (for the moment) I'm using ZSNES. I may switch if I end up really needing the Memory Watch (not sure if ZSNES has that, haven't been able to find it if so), but getting used to another emulator would probably take a while. I'm also pretty reliant on ZSNES's Rewind function.
As to the intro stage, I have beaten it; guess I wasn't clear in my last post. Going into the stage select, I'm about five seconds behind your any%.
After a preliminary run through the highway stage, I'm within about 5 seconds (the wrong way, sadly) of Fractal's published run (to which a 100% should in theory be identical up till the end of Chill Penguin's stage.) Few things.
1. Can someone confirm the button-press sequence for skipping the maximum of the opening? I had a lot of trouble doing it, and couldn't stop the title screen from fading in completely, which leads me to believe it may be SNES9X specific.
2. I could use some tips on taking down the Insect-O-Copters. I can't seem to get them on-screen without going too far and then being forced to either take damage before I can finish them, or run backward to dodge (which also wastes time.) (This is probably where I lost most of the time that I'm behind FractalFusion on.)
Me being the extreme masochist I am, I'm going to give this a try. I figure, my first (three) TASes were done on a pretty easy game, so I may as well challenge myself.
One quick question to Fractal: Does dashing while shooting increase charge shot damage too, or is it just pellet damage?
Also, I liked your test run. It was/will be very helpful.
Youtube's down for me, but let me say I've been hoping for someone to pick this game up.
Each difficulty yields a different reward for collecting all the Challenge Points. Easy, you get the "Leebo Scanner" which is an alternate camera. Medium, you can fly a TIE Fighter or X-Wing during the Skyhook Battle. Hard, you can max out your ammo and get an Invincibility at will. Jedi, Wampas become friendly. I don't see any of this helping a TAS, though, because I'm pretty sure there are Challenge Points in every level, including the Skyhook Battle at the end of the game.
This was a problem for me back around the time I joined; I was having trouble getting the Megaman X2 run.
I'd like to take this opportunity to suggest that someone (the encoder, perhaps?) Google Video or MegaUpload or something each run. I'd do it myself, but I have really bad upstream.
I think this is a great idea. I know I'd like to see a how-to on 2-player TASing; I'd like to try it, but I can't even wrap my brain around where to get started.
The problem with trading from another game is that you would either need a predefined save (which would put a run doing so into the same category as the New Game+ run for Chrono Trigger) or you'd need to play the second game from the beginning too, which (from what I can work out) would defeat the point.
