The previous post is an excellent example of a bad thread title. Also, an excellent example of a bad idea of a new thread (or a post in general). I'm combining this post to the thread it belongs to... Edit: possibly, perhaps the poster accidentally clicked "new topic" instead of "reply".

Another game I've never heard about. I watched a few minutes from the beginning, and although I couldn't definitely tell, I think it's not played perfectly. But it certainly didn't look impressive, or even interesting... I vote 'no'.

How can you say that, because according to my web server's logs, you didn't actually even download the movie file? The poll says Please do not vote without watching the movie first., yet you deliberately act against. Edit: I'll revoke aaa2's voting ability. Edit 2: And, cancel some of his recent votes. He's been really active!

The SDL version of FCEU has this annoying bugfeature: When you are recording a movie, and you accidentally load a savestate that was made outside of recording, it will spit out an error, stop recording and truncate the current movie to about 30 frames. It has happened to me more than once, and based on the algorithm I figured out a few days ago, I created a recovery utility that repairs movie files that are damaged in situations like this. Here it is. http://bisqwit.iki.fi/utils/fcmrepairer.php Feed it your truncated FCM file, and your latest backup copy of the working FCM, and it will generate you the recovered movie - just as it was before your clumsy accident. The more recent your backup was, the better the chances of succeeding. This utility might save your day also if you accidentally load a wrong savestate. Seemingly it generates movie data out from nothing, but the magic is that the data was still there in your FCM file, because FCEU actually never truncates the file. There's a lot of cruft at the end of the file. This utility takes advantage of that.

After watching this clip... 1. Lot of it was just waiting, with nothing happening. Somewhat boring. 2. The constant scrubbing (movement back&forward) was annoying. It made Popeye seem neurotic. Perhaps you danced to the music... I don't know, because I watched it sounds off. 3. You let one note get wet! One letter, too. 4. You never took spinach :( 5. It wasn't particularly impressive. The completion time of the game mainly depends on the items Olive throws, and she does it at constant speed. As long as you don't die, you can't miss this result by more than a second or two. (Actually beating this time should be possible by always catching the last item as early as possible. Some luck manipulation might be needed for this.) Now, I'll vote "no" and go and do /nick Mister_Negative.

The only reference to past discussions about Popeye was this one post: http://tasvideos.org/forum/p/28458#28458 (attached to thread: Silly games to time-attack for...) Now, I'm not entirely sure whether a timeattack for this small and simple game is a good idea. That means I'm not sure it's a bad idea either. It might be interesting, or it might not. Can't tell before watching :) Ps: Why did you use Famtasia? Ps2: In the "author's real name field", please include also your surname (or at least the first letter of it). Edit: Last time you submitted something, your name was Daniel Liber. Now you are a Michael? The submission form discourages you against false names, but yet you went against it. Why?

How about just stickying it?
The forum is a bad place for information. The internet loves permanent URLs, and creating permanent links to forum discussions is an entirely bad idea. If it's sticky, it should be something forum related. If it's something generally informative, its authoritative place shouldn't be in the forums, but on some static page that has a logical URL (instead of an automatically numbered one). (Yes, I'm also ranting about those multitudes of VBA / SNES9x / FCEU / Gens versions that can only be found by wading through forum discussions.)

I always wondered why exactly 1, and only 1 warp is used in the Solomon's Key run. It was so late in the game too that I was already assuming that is was a warpless run. Then, out of the blue, the last warp is used to skip some levels. If the author was going to use a warp, why not use them all and shave several minutes off the time to begin with?
Because, at the time, it was the only warp I knew. The new movie will be warpless and feature also the secret rooms.

I take that back, after watching the movie again. There are a multitude of tiny errors (mostly just the ones where he misses the bonus platform) plus a handful of small ones (like climbing a ladder instead of flying up it), and a couple of judgement errors (where he mixes Wheel when Fireball or Tornado would've been more useful) and two places where he takes damage where it's not necessary and doesn't save time.
Missing the bonus platform? Yes, it's something that could perhaps be rememied with frame advance. Somehow, I didn't manage to get the same timing consistently. When I was playing, I suspected it had something to do with the game itself. Climbing ladder instead of flying it? Can you elaborate? Because I'm fairly sure I didn't do mistakes of that kind. (Note that flying is rather undesirable because it halts movement when you blow out the air. I only flied the ladders when the motion was already of flying for some reason. At 13:26 I think I wanted to get to proper height to use fireball.) Judgement errors conserning wheel/fireball/tornado may be possible. I didn't use tornado at all. That being said, I don't think it's unrealistic to hope someone improves over my run by 2 minutes :)

Lap 1: Doesn't seem so hard that a tool-assisted movie is needed. A regular player can do the same given a few hours of training. There is no luck manipulation to consider (the author didn't mention any). There's no framewise perfection to be done either, as long as you accelerate as soon as possible and never brake. Lap 2: Same thing, I'm afraid. Lap 3: Much harder, considering how thin the road is and the opponents are curving across it like targets that are hard to miss. But it still is doable with some luck. Lap 4: Seems easier than lap 3, except for the blocks on the road. I vote no, because this movie is not something impressive that shows how tool-assistency pays off (except in training time).

I think Baxter's comment concludes this submission's fate.

If you have a question, please read the FAQ first to see if your question has already been answered. Seen this somewhere? How about following the instruction. This resolves a few of your questions, but not all.

I don't care of the exact name of the game. Priorities: The game names should be short (avoid unnecessarily prolonged names) - To avoid the front page layout breaking when the game appears there. - This means that instead of "Flintstones, The - The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy", I rather list "Flintstones". Game list must be easily searchable. This means: - The game name should contain all the words that make up the commonly known name(s) of the game. - The list should contain each game in a logical position: Games of same serie should be next to each others. - If the game name begins with "The", move it after the main name, such as "Adventures of Lolo, The". Even better would perhaps be "Lolo, The adventures of"... but that sounds a bit ackward.

Don't assume it a habit or generally accepted behavior. :P I'm not sure what to make out of it, but because it's not a licensed game and the copyright holder is completely anonymous... I did that.

I'm already working on Chip&Dale (two levels completed). And Solomon's Key, though it's badly on the background. I'm not sure how much Kirby could be improved, but I'd like someone to do that.

True, true. Very good thinking! (Actually, in both cases you can just move Simon around by editing the savestate.)

I'm not interested of this game, but the comments and submission text on this page highly make me curious of this movie...
