Starting today, several new server addresses were taken into use on the TASVideos website. media.tasvideos.org: Replaces tasvideos.org/media, bisqwit.iki.fi/jutut/kuvat/nesvideos and w-create.com/%7Ebisqwit/nesvideos, and portions of bisqbot.stc.cx tracker.tasvideos.org: Replaces bisqwit.iki.fi/torrents The main site address is still http://tasvideos.org/ , can also be spelled http://TASvideos.org/ or http://TASVideos.org/ , so it has not changed. ============== For publishers (IMPORTANT): The new tracker announce address is: http://tracker.tasvideos.org:6969/announce , not http://bisqwit.iki.fi:6969/announce You must heed this change or otherwise you will not be able to publish new torrents. ============== These changes are done in preparation for possible future migration of the TASVideos website. ============== NOTE: Regular users of the TASVideos website don't need to change anything! Note 2: All torrents of the site have been rewritten to use the new announce address. You may need to redownload them if you were seeding them. (The old announce address will still continue to work for an unspecified length of time (on the order of weeks at least), though.)

http://bisqwit.iki.fi/jutut/bomberman.lst -- Here's a symbolic disassembly of the Bomberman ROM. I labelled some RAM & ROM addresses, though others are still unlabelled. Some descriptions of the RAM values can be found here. http://bisqwit.iki.fi/jutut/bomberman.ini It should be more than enough for one who creates a bot for this game, with information about the field layout, the enemies' locations and movement, information about the bombs placed by the player including the time until their detonation, and the player character's location. Note that Bomberman is a single-player game. :(

They look just fine to me. Also, you posted in the wrong thread. This topic is discussed in the "screenshots" thread, not in the "traffic statistics" thread. I'll move the posts.

I think I read that Chrome had some unreasonably high market share right after being released... I take it that it was inconsequential here?
That would be grouped under Safari, I suppose. But no, I don't see it making a mark of itself in the access logs.

A known issue, documented at http://tasvideos.org/Bisqwit/Projects/ChronoCross.html#ProgressiveImprovementAndPsxBugs . Sorry about that.

Interestingly enough, Apogee (or 3D studios, as it is now called) has released several of their games as freeware. I'm not sure if this means if they're legal or not, but it's still nostalgia.
They are legal if they have released them as such.

What if you lived in Mecca around 610 AD?
Around that time, so I hear (in a lecture by David Pawson, snippet here (42 MB, 14 minutes)), Mecca was a center for worship of a myriad of different gods. One of those, the moon god, became the centerpiece of the Mohammedian religion.

Ah, yeah, I suppose these were really actually #3, #9, #11 and #16, since Mario doesn't count. Random off-by-ones!

I didn't specify :) You're free to imagine a fitting scenario. I started thinking this question when I explained to someone else earlier today, how the human nature is the same in each and everyone of us, and under the different circumstances, I could see myself as if I were one of those who were shouting angrily that Pilatus release Barabbas and crucify Jesus. The gospels are written from such a protagonist perspective that it is difficult for most people to imagine themselves in such a position, but there were really a lot of people and the mob mentality against him was strong, for he had spoken straight out inconvenient things and mocked the leaders. Then I thought of what I would have been doing if I had grown there and my nature would be the same as it is now, except without any knowledge of Jesus. I suppose I would be such impressioned by Jesus that I would be passionately traveling to follow and listen at wherever he preaches, and I would believe that he is who he says he is. Assuming that my circumstances would permit that. But I plot such a scenario where they would permit :) When Jesus gets arrested and convicted, I would be utterly frustrated and depressed and pulling my hair out when I see the mob mentality being so strong and people acting so shamefully.

As for me — I don't think Jesus himself has had any substantial influence on people until after his death. So, it's likely I wouldn't really have cared. Then again, this is strongly hypothetical.
Well, I don't know how many people there were in Israel at that time, but for example, in Matt. chapter 14, five thousand people were with Jesus, and in chapter 15, four thousand followed him to the mountain. So he wasn't exactly unknown. Word about the miracles he performed also spread quickly. But then again, there was no print and no television, so not everyone heard the news, so it was well possible to not hear anything of it.

Dear anyone, Assuming Jesus as indicated by the Bible really existed, imagine yourself as having lived as a contemporary, in that same area. If you lived the era Jesus ― or Yeshua, ישוע ― preached in Israel, what would you have done? How would you have reacted? (Assume that you do not know the future, i.e. you will not know what he will do next, how he will be convicted and risen from death, etc.) (Edit: My 6000th post apparently. Yay me! Thanks Kyrsimys for pointing out.)

Animated gifs are not very optimal for scrolling images, as most games are. The resulting gifs would be enormous.
Indeed. However, when the scrolling background can be made fixed and the foreground moving, as is in the animation shown above (and the basis of my "tiletracker" animator), they become moderate sized. Can only happen in games with a relatively static background though, with no parallax. Still no sound, though.

Tennis honestly seems like a game that would work best brute forced. Hit A, hit A again after a growing delay. If the ball scores in this interval, go to next round and repeat, with the same idea applying for opponent's serves.
For entertaining games, I'd actually like to see the bot cooperate with the other player as long as possible rather than failing it at the first try every time.

Like all great technology, this was inspired to advance pornography. Wouldn't this work. At time t, take a screenshot of the frame, and give it a number based on some formula, perhaps based on color count and such. Then, at t+1 do the same thing, and compare the difference between the two frames. If they are close, group them together in the current animation. If they are far apart, a new gif sequence will be created. I imagine, then, if we were to apply this program to Mario 1, we would -- if my memory serves correctly -- get Gif 1: Title sequence. Gif 2: Black screen that shows number of lives. Gif 3: Level one part 1. Gif 4: A few frames of black Gif 5: Collecting coins under the tube Gif 6: Left of level 1. Gif 7: A few frames of black. Gif 8: The walking to the pipe. Gif 9: A few frames of black. Gif 10: Start of level 2.
Do you mean like this? http://bisqwit.iki.fi/kala/snap/smb1anim2.gif (Warning: half a megabyte long, best watched in Firefox (other browsers have a slower gif renderer))

What's a good laptop to buy now? Or for that matter, which companies should I avoid like the plague?
HP, Lenovo are good; Acer, Dell are bad. (I guess Dell laptops are ok but IIRC the company is known for some negative publicity concerning customer support and treatment of their employees.)

If you are asking for help online (thus asking for help from people who are in no way indebted to you), it's a wise move to show that you've already done 1 and 2 before doing 3. He said he doesn't know anything about pthreads, but didn't even bother reading a pthread manual. He didn't post anything about his previous attempts or even specific questions to show that he's tried to solve it. I can't say I'd blame anyone but him for the flak he's getting.
That's precisely the point I was trying to make… Only worded so much better.
