Much better, but the grammar could take a touch of professionalism :) Also the URL should end in a slash. I would also make the top right box significantly smaller (only to reduce it to an oneliner "Encoder: <name>" with that other text on a much smaller font below it), and the last line shown in the second box somewhat more prominent.

This movie makes me very happy. Not only because it is better than my last movie, but because I've succeeded in passing forth all the knowledge relating to Rockman tricks, and people have even added some of their own :) And, always watching one's own movie makes its taste somewhat pungent. Even the entertainment is overall on par with my movie, if not better by average.

Well, if I ever attended a cosplay convention in costume, I would probably try some Megaman character that is not a shame to dress as at such a convention. But it seems that it is virtually impossible for a male to dress as any of them without embarrassing oneself. (No, I don't consider cosplaying in general as an embarrassment.) That much for my opinion based on browsing cosplay galleries :)

Nice work with the art, except for the following considerations: 1) Our videos are commonly 256x224, not 256x240. At 256x224, your first logo looks like this: 2) The message is wrong. The role of tasvideos.org is not to be "a download site", but that of a center of TAS-related information. I don't care where people download these TASes. In order words, though the URL is important, it is not there so that one can say "downloaded from". It is there so that one can "find more (information)" at that site. More information: http://tasvideos.org/EncoderGuidelines.html#Logo 3) The text will be horribly unreadable on interlaced displays. I'm also worried at what a video codec does to such small details. 4) Oh, and the URL is practically invisible at first sight due to the low contrast. That said, why does Maverick have such feminine shape of body? Even though the face is masculine, the shapes are such that only females can cosplay it with whatever little dignity. :)

With the huge wait to get Rockman fall 128 screenfuls (128*256/12 frames = 2730 frames [1]), can this trick be useful?

That's somewhat similar to the idea I had a few years back when I created this video: https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/povray-assisted-clip.avi (15 MB). Unfortunately, my modelling skills did not allow me to add hands into it…

The blue text is very blurry. From now on, please use PNG instead of JPEG. PNG is lossless, whereas JPEG is lossy and destroys image content.

You must then provide a video of the playthrough as an AVI so people can frame-advance through it. Youtube does not support frame-advancing :(

True, emulator inaccuracies in savestate loading can also cause peculiarities. According to my perception, pSX savestates seem to be quite robust, though. The only problem I've noticed has been with the sound echo buffer; it is not affected by savestates.

i already saw youtube series before posting the first time, thx. Bisqwit, is there any other way to download the movie? youtube one is of lower quality than submitted, by default and even &fmt=18 wouldn't help it, especially if it's splitted. btw. noone showed within these days to seed. if you don't wanna encode, place it on smth like filefront or torrent and i'll place it after encoding on some long-term sharing system :)
Considering that I lost the original AVI as I explained in the post I don't know whether you read, any other ways to download the movie rely on people other than me having the original AVI. The last sentence of your message indicates that you and I have different meanings for the word "encode" applied to AVIs. As I don't know what's yours, your sentence remains nonunderstood. For the remaining resolutions, I refer to my earlier post also referred to in the first sentence of this reply. EDIT: The AVI torrent is available again.

They don't rise? Well that's a problem. I don't see how you can do zipping tricks at all with item1 then. Unless there's a similar off-by-1 error as with the magnet beams in Mega Man.

Oh, these graphics… I've seen them somewhere. Is it from the same maker as the Mystery of Atlantis? EDIT: Oh, it is. Should have read the submission message first :) It looks like classic pirate cart fodder. I did not watch the movie yet, I only commented on the screenshots taken by our friend NesVideoAgent. :)

Should be quite possible, unless item1s work differently in this game than in Mega Man 2.

Also, more insidious methods of cheating with video-only exist: Remove every seventh frame, and you've got a 14% faster video and most people can't notice why. (Though it would be somewhat limited to situations where the music speeding up cannot be noticed.) Well, remove every 20th frame, and you've got a 5% faster video, and that people wouldn't probably notice.

Yep, the problem with multimedia re-recording is that the resulting product can not be validated: there's no way to verify whether it was actually the product of playing or if some video editing trickery transpired. Still, if you can trust the author, it allows for impressive videos indistinguishable from those TASes that can be validated. I updated the source code package a bit, and added a stitching script in it. Basically, to create a pSX "TAS", you'll do the following: HOWTO.txt included in the package describes the use. Caveats: ä̤) There is no "read-only" movie playback. If you make a mistake and you've got no savestate to backtrack with, you have to either accept the mistake or begin anew. So, you must be careful with where you make savestates and where you don't. b̤̈) Every time you switch windows while the emulator is active, 1 frame of audio is lost. Cumulative, this results in a gradual A/V desync in the video. You can undo the lost frame by loading a savestate that was created before the frame was lost. You can avoid this entirely by only switching windows when the emulator is paused (using the Enter key). c̤̈) The video and audio written in the directory indicated by BASE will be accumulated every time you run a frame on the emulator, regardless of whether it is later undone or not. This mean that even for short movies, you will quickly accumulate large files, because all your failed attempts are still recorded in those files. (Later, a tool can be written to shorten these files.) d̤̈) pSX savestates are good but not perfect: Notably, the sound echo state is not saved in the state. You should avoid loading savestates when something having an echo is playing, because it will still echo when you load the state. In the stitched AVI, it will sound like an echo of something appears from nowhere. It is a cosmetic inconvenience only. ë̤) "TAS"es created with this way cannot be submitted at TASVideos.org, because they cannot be validated. But be sure to post them in your own webspace and provide a link on these forums! --- Footnote: Of course it would be a dozen times more preferrable to have robust re-recording functionality in pSX itself, but unfortunately, the author of pSX seems to be stonewalling me.

Actually, it is the recommended way. Brushing teeth immediately after eating something is not a good idea. Part of the tooth's surface gets dissolved during the eating, but remineralizes in an hour or two. If you wash teeth before that happens, the dissolved content is lost and the teeth are left weaker. This is what I remember reading recently somewhere. Google "remineralization" for more information.

may i ask you to seed the movie?
Already doing so.* Remember, if you distribute it, do not claim it is a real-time playing, and do not dissociate the author's name from it. Keeping a reference to this site (TASVideos) is recommended to explain the meaning of tool-assistance. EDIT: *) Oops. Not seeding it. I accidentally deleted it while I was trying to change the autoseeder to ignore that file in the priority listing... Let's hope someone else has it still. Or I may need to re-encode it.

Hi andros, for the record, I'm the only who created that movie, and the one who formed this site... And I support truncated's decision. It is one of my favourite movies, but publishing it on this site would not have done good in the long run, because of emulator robustness issues.

As I have not got access to pSX source code, I have done some plans using my favourite Unix technique, the LD_PRELOAD trick. Two of such outcomes of my project are: TASVideos quality AVI recording This is my classic "injected encoder" trick. Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPvrgO_UN80 It requires that the emulator is configured to run in "no frame skipping" mode and "synchronous audio" mode. Multimedia TASing Multimedia TASing is the action of recording your entire playing session on the emulator, quicksaves and quickloads and all, and then postprocessing the video&audio recording such that all your undoes are removed from the recording. With my technique, such postprocessing can be automated. Such method is not allowed on this site, because videos produced by it are unverifiable: It is impossible to verify whether what happens on the video is the exact product of running the game, or whether the game is hacked, video is edited, or such. However, the emulator lacking real TASing support, it is a neat feature to produce TAS-like videos. Here's how it works. Every time the emulator saves or loads a quicksave, the audio&video recorder takes note of the current recording position, and logs those into an event log file. Afterwards, by inspecting the log file, one can stitch together the video&audio such that all of the undone actions are removed, and only the final product is shown, just like in a TAS. Of course, you're still limited to the emulator's available toolset. In the case of pSX, this means you won't have frame advance, for example. But you do have quicksaves, and due to the recording, the emulator will be running slower than usual, so that helps too. Good: * Allows creating TAS-like videos (in fact, they're TASes, just unverifiable) on emulators that do not have TAS support. Bad: * Requires a lot of disk space: the whole recording session must be recorded, including those frames which you undo; and a keyframe must be explicitly generated every time a savestate is made, to allow for stitching. Recording is done at very high bitrate encoding, in order to allow making postprocessed AVIs at various quality levels. * Impossible to validate the resulting video. Source code The source code of this project is available at: http://bisqwit.iki.fi/src/pSX-avi-recording-script.zip Instructions are included inside, in a HOWTO.txt file. Sorry, this will not work on Windows, for Windows lacks the LD_PRELOAD technique. It could possibly be done by the means explained here, but I lack the motivation & expertise to try it out. Oh, and just to clarify, this particular release only works with pSX. Each different emulator has their own library routines that they call and in different manner, so the intercepter must be customized to take account for the differences. It is configured such that it records video at constant 320x240 resolution, using the x264 codec. (Obviously, x264 must be installed.) When the emulator produces video at a different resolution, it is automatically scaled using the lanczos filter. (You'll notice it does when the emulator slows down significantly.)

In my opinion, "I made it, so if you want something, you must bow to me five times while farting to the west. My program, my rules! Don't like it? Them scram!" SUCKS as a mindset for a software author, freeware or not. It is actually very much similar to why people hate Saturn. You possess something and you use it as means of controlling people and acting superior, knowing that they are not likely to redo the huge amount of work you've done that you refuse to share.

Though I must still say, I hate the plugin hell that is with most of PSX emulators.
