Yes. There's also a game called Pugsley's Scanvenger Hunt on the NES, but that is a totally different game.

No no no. Please no time trials. There are already nearly perfect time trial videos out there that were done on the consoles themselves. (Edit: Well, that's actually a lie, since some of the best videos aren't really available)I say the only way to make an interesting run would be making GP runs, with plenty of luck and glitch abusing. I'm not sure about the format, ie one video per cup or what. Also, 150cc mode and special cup must be unlocked, so that creates even more problems. (there might be a keypress combo to unlock everything at the start, but I don't know). If you insist on making time trials, here are the times that must be beaten for it to be worth anything (assuming the NTSC version will be used): http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Dome/3346/ntsc.htm This is the site I found (geoshitties sucking isn't my fault): http://www.geocities.com/smkplayerssite/ Here are some videos: http://www.geocities.com/smkplayerssite/smk_proof.htm Whatever the type of run that is made, someone needs to find out how the hell those top times were achieved.

Does anyone want to make a run of "Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt" on the SNES? The character runs very fast in it, and the game is very difficult, so I'm sure it would be fast and fun. I would make it myself, but Snes9x doesn't support frame advance on my keyboard.

Well, they have the best acceleration, (edit: oh wait, I guess they don't... oh well) so they're the fastest if you constantly bump into things and can't turn without losing speed. But I think a timeattack of Super Mario Kart will be very, VERY difficult to do properly. Because there area already some amazing videos out there, a timeattack will be required to beat ALL the world records, and this will require extensive knowledge of the game, at the very least. Some "mad skillz" are probably neccesary as well.

Whoa, you did it again! That's awesome. I wonder if it'll eventually go below 30 minutes ...

I'm sorry, but this run was NOT entertaining to watch. At all. The levels are uninteresting, there's nothing entertaining about this. I found myself fast-forwarding through the last levels, it was so boring. This game is just not suited for a timeattack. Please don't waste more time making a movie for this game (at least not the NES version).

Yeah, 49 seconds is much more than I expected, too. Very nice indeed.

The goal of such a run is to collect as many items as possible without fighting any bosses. The first boss (not Ridley) is an exception because it's impossible to get anywhere without the morph ball bombs. (At least, I THINK you get the morph ball bombs on that boss.) A run like this would be full of cool tricks and difficult maneuvers, so it could be interesting. But it wouldn't have a defined ending, because it's impossible to complete the game under these conditions.

It's Linus Spacehead, silly. And that game is impossible to complete. My record was reaching level 3 (on a real NES). Hmm, maybe that game would also make a good timeattack? Meh, I don't know..

Yes. Yes. Yes. Please do this game. It's so big and complex, I was never able to get very far. Of course, the planning will be an absolute nightmare, and it might not be so entertaning to watch if you haven't played the game, but I'd like to see it anyway. "Treasure Island Dizzy" on the 4-game cartridge (it is called Quattro Adventure) is much, MUCH easier than The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy. I was almost able to complete in on a NES way back, without any guide of any kind. And with an emulator, I recently completed it easily. It's really very short and easy. Speaking of "Quattro Advendure". One day, I'm going to do this Robin Hood game on it. It's called "Super Robin Hood". It is allowed to do just one game on a four-game cartridge, right? Of course, it'll be a while before I do that run, and I'm not sure how entertaining it'll be. Oh well.

I occationally get the same thing, but it happens with both DivX and Xvid. I think it's the player, I use Media Player Classic, but I sometimes use Mplayer (the Windows version) and it never happens there at all. Of course, Mplayer will play anything, no matter how corrupted and useless the file is...

Or you could move to Mars. That would give you about 40 more minutes per day. The latency could be an issue, though. (this thread is already way off topic, so don't point at me!)

The basketball anology is pretty stupid. First of all, you already have 2 hands because it's the way the game is meant to be played. All good NES games are designed with lag in mind, even if it is a byproduct of the limitations of the hardware. Therefore, it is incorrect to say that it is analogous to playing basketball with 1 hand tied behind the back. A better anology would be either replacing the ball with a different ball that can be thrown faster and bounces higher, or perhaps changing the rules so that kicking the ball is allowed. About the Survivor comparison. That comparison is also flawed because the voting alliances in that stupid 'reality' show are more analogous to using glitches in games than cheating. Both are technically perfectly confined withing the original rules of the game. By the way, we already use glitches a LOT.

Using your basketball anology, it would be more like replacing the ball with another ball that has different bouncing properties and is lighter. It's not a difference of playing with 1 or 2 hands, since you already had 2 extremely fast and perfectly accurate hands (rerecording/slowdown/frame advance).

So we can make better speed runs.
I fail to see how a faster video is "better" if it bypasses certain functions in a game. You might as well play the file back at double speed, thus making it "faster". But it wouldn't be "better". You said it yourself, we're making entertainment, not "omg I c0mpl3t3d teh gaem faster IM 1337!!!" videos.

The idea of doing timeattacks with an "overclocked" emulator is just ridiculus. The lag was there on the original system, so why should we deliberately get rid of it? It would really just be a lot of hassle for a tiny increase in speed. What's the big deal?

What do you mean by "walk-in-the-air thingie"? I have no idea what you're talking about... :) Edit: oh wait, you mean the flying disks. No, I tried it in every area in Telos. In the first area, it takes you back outside. In the second area, it takes you to the third, but you'd have to use it twice, and after using it once, you're already at the door, so it's useless here. In the third area, it takes you back to the second area, again useless. Combining the two is useless, at least for glitches. You can jump off a disk, then switch to telepod and fire it, but there are no places where this is useful. You can't fire the telepod while standing on a disk.

Congratulations, you got the point.
But I thought the point of this site was to have entertaining runs. Are you perhaps counting on this run being rejected? Yeah, that would make a point, "if you make a crappy run, it will get rejected".

There should be a special area on this site devoted to games like this. Then the main site wouldn't need to be stenched up by putrid pukes of games like this one. It could be called "trash dump" or "filthy public toilet". Sorry, this run isn't entertaining in the slightest, in fact, about halfway through I said this is enough and fast-forwarded through the rest of the game. In fact, if you fast-forward, you can STILL not miss any of the action, the game is that slow-paced.

In that Gradius 2 run, I think you should try to write things and symbols on the screen with the fireball things that follow your ship. Like the "diamond" shape you did a couple of times, but slightly more involved. If you do one letter at a time, those who watch closely might catch the message. It's just an idea that might increase the entertainment value. :) Anyway, what I saw was good, although it gets a little dry after a while. I don't know how long the game is but if it's much longer than 20 minutes, it could become boring.

Ger someone to do it for you through the 'intarweb'. They can do anything with that these days.

The movie desyncs if sound is turned on. This happens with certain games. I thought everyone knew about it. Or has it been fixed? I think I have the newest version of snes9x...
