I think I've figured out the randomness... it seems like there's NO way to affect the pieces once the game starts. Although I haven't tried pausing, which is unacceptable.

I'm wondering if someone is interested in this game. It's that game where you arrange pieces of pipe so that some liquid (or whatever it is) can pass through them. I've made a test movie. It's a bit rough in some places, and I stupidly didn't realize there's a level select at the start, so I did level 1 instead of 16 as the 'real' movie would do. But it should give a good idea of what I have in mind. I'm not yet completely sure how the randomness works in this game. The game decides the pieces well in advance, but I'm not sure if it is always completely fixed or if pieces in the future can be luck abused.

Heh, I love this thread. :) Gremlins 2 version 1: 7030 (launced the ball only once) Gremlins 2 version 2: 0 points. It wasn't ever able to launch the ball.

Very nice. I think I noticed a few rough spots, (I could just be imagining things) but on the whole, it is obviously an improvement over the previous movie. An easy yes vote from me.

That's silly, everyone knows TAB is the best key for frame advance. Then map A and B to X and C. (if I map it to Z and X, I can't hold down two directions and A and B and advance a frame all at once).

The SNES version looks much better to me, but it might be due to the filters available in the SNES emulators. It also sounds better. But I don't think the SNES version supports 3-player anyway, so it doesn't matter.

All the levels are very similar anyway, so the last two levels wouldn't be very interesting at all, I would think.

Oh man, just reading this thread makes me want to play this game. Sounds like something that would be reviewed on somethingawful.com.

Either that or just rename the Famtasia forum to "Famtasia / FCEU".

In Star World 4, are you sure you couldn't grab a shell at some point and throw it into the [?] box, to get the key faster? Since you've activated the red and green switch boxes, it looks like it would be possible. Might save a few frames... Nice job so far, pleae keep it up.

Hmm, I have an N64 somewhere, and I still have my "Lylat Wars" cartridge (yeah, the PAL version is called that awful awful name). I'll see if I can post up my score if my battery hasn't died yet... It's probably nothing special, though.

I guess this game would be more suitable for single-level records, getting the highest amount of points in each level. Like that collection of BlastCorps movies. Or a run through the game, choosing a path that allows for the highest number of points, while getting a really really high score in each level (so the end score would be really high). Yeah, I would love to see a run of this game, if only because I played it like a maniac back in the days. I got a medal for every level, in both normal and expert.

The only real annoyance I'm having with FCEU is that after loading while paused, the image doesn't update until you advance a frame again. Otherwise, FCEU is just perfect. Well, there's no rewind feature but that's impossible to implement anyway. Would be neat to have though. (well, I guess it would be theoretically possible to make a savestate every single frame...) Famtasia, on the other hand, is full of problems. I can't really run it in a large window, it just craps itself if I do that. Also, there's no frame advance. It isn't as good as FCEU as an emulator either. So FCEU has suprerior emulation and suprerior movie-making features. It's a bit ironic that the Linux version isn't so good. (or so I've heard) After all, it's open source and there's a native Linux port... It isn't possible to run the Win32 version in Wine, is it? (or Cedega, or whatever it is called this week) :)

I'm going to change my mind on this. I say the rule should be: stop as soon as no more input is required, as long as it doesn't slow down the speed of the actual completion. So if in the end of a game you're supposed to fall down a hole, and there's NO way to speed it up with input, the movie should end as soon as the character starts falling. However, if the movie ends early and makes the character slowly drift towards the final goal, that would not be OK (if it was possible to speed it up). Of course, that's just MY opinion, ... well, have fun debating...

Yeah, damn it. I was really excited about that infinite bomb jump against walls that was possible in the demo of MP2. But it's not in the full version. :( Also, it seems to have borrowed a few ideas from Fusion, which sucks. Not that Fusion is a bad game, it's just not "Metroid-y" if that makes any sense. Anyway, I'm sure it's still a great game, I will definately play it at some point.

Well, my opinion is that a movie should end when it's impossible to make it fail to reach the ending. So if I were to play back that SMB movie and hold down left, thus preventing the movie from ending, then it was ended too soon. However, if the movie was ended mid-jump but it is still impossible to prevent it from ending, then it should be OK. I don't know why the hell the viewer should even be pushing any buttons, etc. This is just how I feel about it. Ending the movie early is pretty stylish, though, and I can see why people want to do it. It could become another one of those time-saving tricks that would be used regularly. After all, those movies are all about minimalism, or something, etc. But anyway, I think I'm still not entirely convinced that it should always be done. After all, almost no run does this. Pretty much every single run on this site could be "improved" by a few frames if this became a new trend.

In my opinion, bumping is fine as long as the bumping post has something relevant to say. I don't see anything against bumping in the rules.

edit: nevermind, I was like two hours too late Do you really think Famtasia is better than FCEU? Just wondering, because in my opinion, Famtasia is extremely obsolete now. (it's not a big deal, I can watch it just fine and I don't really care what others use)

using items to swing my pod around corners
Oh, yes, oh yes... I'm already looking forward to it. :) I seem to remember there being "abandoned" ships in some levels, so you could get a new ship if your previous one was destroyed. Those ships are always the same type as your current one, right? Because if not, you could get an upgraded ship that way... but I guess not...

Don't forget, after a certain point, you can actually tow the warp thing with you. So I think it wouldn't be very boring. Dodging enemy projectiles while towing a black hole with some crazy gravity going on would be cool to watch. Also, the bonus levels would be done flawlessly, which would be fun, too.

Really? You get a new one, no questions asked? Then what prevents people from getting an extra cd-key, claiming they lost the other one?

Heh, that was fun, so I'll vote yes. The pauses weren't that annoying.
