I think this is exactly what everyone should do when TASing games. TASing is basically just testing everything and then executing the fastest found method. If you're able to do everything you listed in your post and you know how to use tools for your advantage, I'm sure you'll do fine. Good luck on your run! I like Pocky & Rocky, so be sure to post WIPs. Others can then comment on them and see if they notice possible improvements. PS. There might be a Pocky & Rocky thread in the SNES section of this forum. Be sure to use the search function to find if there's one and read through the thread for possible tips and other useful stuff. EDIT: I found an existing thread here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3796

One question: after the second EXTEND warp, you spent a long time with both players being one letter short of getting another EXTEND. Why didn't you complete one of them? Did it just take too much time to set up the combo for it to be worthwhile? Of course, you did then use the warp twice in rapid succession.
Some levels are faster to complete than others. So skipping those slower ones is obviously faster. EDIT: I guess I was wrong :( *cries in the corner* EDIT2: <Tompa> You were right as well though, Brushy - Yay!

Voting yes! This run was very entertaining and well made. I still can't help but wonder if some places can be done faster because I'm a somewhat speedy when playing this. Maybe I'll try to TAS this when it's possible for me :P 100% run would be impressive for players who have achieved that theirselves, but to others it would probably be too repetetive and long.

Well, too bad you didn't like the game, as there's not really much for me to do to make it more appealing.

I can't watch the whole thing. This is Guantanamo-grade torture. Wow: there's a published run of this game? I vote we unpublish it.
This TAS is actually approved by Obama, because it demonstrates how to enter and exit elevators more efficiently. People have a lot more time for work and other things, when they don't have to wait for elevators that long.

I've never actually felt sympathy for the enemies in a TAS before, but it looked like you were doing some seriously unfair things.
You have no idea how difficult this game gets in the fourth level... Some of the enemies will just come out of the door, duck and shoot without the player being able to do anything. Sometimes another enemy is coming right after the first too, so that I can't even shoot the first enemy, because the door where the second enemy is coming, is in the way. That's why I have no sympathy for the enemies.

It's a nice improvement to the previous run, and I'll vote Yes, but I'm not sure if I really like the use of death as a shortcut for a game like this.
Trust me, it's way more entertaining to see the hero die than to see him waiting for an elevator for over 10 seconds.

Could you have died more to save time? Maybe there aren't enough lives... I can't remember.
I tested it and in the second level it seemed that dying would be faster, but bad elevator movement canceled out that improvement. Thanks for all your comments and votes and thanks to sgrunt for the encode!

Good choice. Silenced everyone :)
I agree. Here's a better example: CMX - Ruoste (Ruoste is rust in Finnish). It's much more poetic and diverse in my opinion. It's also damn beautiful.

*Inappropriate link that has been removed*
Please remove this link, as posting ROMs is not allowed, as it is illegal in many countires. Please read through the rules. Also, Microstorage is a great site for storing movie files. The actual site has many useful articles full of tips and other useful info about TASing and this site, so when you have time you might want to browse through it a bit. Good luck with your TAS! :)

Exactly what is that key called in the input options?
Pause. Or at least it's pause in every other emulator I've used. See this page for tips and pointers.

I also have a few other questions... a little offtopic I guess, but when I have once clicked on the "Frame advance" key, how do I let the game run like normal, without having to hold that Frame advance key? Sorry for my newbie question.
You have to press the hotkey for pause (not the pause button on your keyboard). I suggest that you configure the hotkeys in Gens to your liking. For example, I've always had frame advance on F and pause on D, but that's just me. If something else suits you better, map the hotkeys so.

Hi! I'm Brushy and I'm new here. Who is this adelikat guy? He seems to be a jerk. I really like Xkeeper because he seems so wise in all of his wisdom. Also, I agree with this Bisqwit guy.

I started working on a new run some time ago, but stopped again due to lost motivation and fading interest in TASing. I thought I could share the WIP of the 100% run. Useful RAM addresses You can accelare to the top speed in the beginning of each level by jumping and touching ground as little as possible (touching the ground reduces speed a bit every time), same goes for slopes. I hope someone improves my runs, as they are quite improvable. I don't think my WIP is perfet either. If someone has some questions, contact me via e-mail as I don't browse these forums anymore.

Shouldn't this have BoMF as a co-author? After all, he did TAS most of the run.

No. You own the rights to everything. It says that at the start. What this means is they can't get shafted if you post something and they use it later to promote "Services", whatever they are.
Oh, I guess I shouldn't read anything with my brain turned off. Well yes it says "you own the rights, but we at Google don't care about that". I don't think it's very nice of them and they should at least give us some cookies.

I interpreted it so that Google holds rights to ANYTHING you write/whatever through their browser. This article (in Finnish) agrees with me.

Mister Symbolic X, if that is your real name, have you noticed that you're not supposed to vote if you haven't seen the run? This may result in revoking your voting rights.
