Well, I managed to save 5 frames (3 from SpongeBob's Block, 2 from Goo Lagoon) from the beginning of the game. I wasn't able to save any more frames, so I'll start making the submission text. It would have been great if we were able to sub 6 minutes (we were only 143 frames away), but at least we have a solid, optimized improvement. EDIT: NitroGenesis, I will be submitting the run soon, so you can start encoding it now if you want.

Here's a new video by yoshimaster showing two of the "most important" skips. After obtaining the spatula and drowning, you can take a taxi to warp further in the level. That was the part I was missing from my idea; for some reason, I didn't think to pause the game.

Here it is! I saved the 3 frames in Rock Bottom, plus 17 frames in Dutch Under, for a total of 20 frames saved between the two areas. It's 4759 frames ahead of the published run and 781 frames (over 13 seconds!) ahead of jlun2's latest submission. The movie time is 6:02.45. Feel free to try to improve it.

No problem, I was planning to do that anyway. If you or NitroGenesis would rather make the submission text, let me know, otherwise I would like to make it.

Yes, I saved 3 frames in Rock Bottom just now. Sorry it took so long, but because the platform at the beginning of the level was too far away to land on, I had to find a completely new route. EDIT: I tried to save more frames, but I couldn't. Anyway, here's Rock Bottom in case you wanted to try saving frames there. I'll start working on Dutch Under to the end (I know 5 frames can be saved in jumping to the spatula after the Flying Dutchman battle).

I tried the movie on both VBA24-alpha and 24-vbam, and everything syncs except the last Start button press to skip the "You got an oven knob" screen. After delaying that a few frames and losing the one frame in switching items (new run needs to go up and right to select Spring Shoes, instead of down), we are now 761 frames ahead of jlun2's submission at selecting the spring shoes for Rock Bottom.

That is awesome. This run is really amazing. I love the new BitFS route and great camera angles (now the run can regain its star!). And that first paragraph is still hilarious. Obvious yes vote.

And if he decides to keep it to himself, we can always wait for his speedrun. He said he might finish it soon.

Well, so far, I've found you can jump to the Cowa-Bungee! spatula in Jellyfish Fields from the platform near the big clam. Once SpongeBob falls through the spatula and drowns, he restarts and does his victory dance, then you can feed the big clam and continue on (this may save time, since you can collect shiny objects from the same enemies and tikis twice to have enough to feed the clam). Also, since the hook never appears, even when you approach it the normal way, it allows you to skip the short hook cutscene. This may not save enough time to do the glitch for just this one spatula, but if we find more use for this glitch, then the glitch will be worth the extra time.

Also, someone at SDA posted in the BfBB topic that he completed the game in 2:30 by using a "new glitch". It sure sounds promising to me.
Well, here is the amazing out-of-bounds (OoB) glitch by yoshimaster on SDA. I have yet to test it, but this could save time on most spatulas and maybe break the game! (Wishful thinking...)

And if you have desync problems, I used the file name of this rom:
Spongebob Squarepants [SLUS_01352].img
That sounds like the ISO I'm using. I'm not sure why it desyncs for me.

OK, I'll work with you on this. I am almost done with SpongeBob: Legend of the Lost Spatula, and then I will be able to work on this game. You can go ahead and start on it if you want.

Thanks for posting this topic, adelikat. I was wondering why he was banned. Do you think an mmarks topic could be made? I'd be interested to learn why he was banned.

Great improvement! I'm in awe that you saved on every level (except one)! I especially like the one-side walljumps in Forest Ghost House. They remind me of one-side wallkicks in the SM64 TASes. Obvious yes vote.

Apparently, you took "Go through the grand hall" literally. :) The new glitch is interesting and entertaining. Great job on this big improvement! Voting Yes.

This iso?
Yep, that's it. The file I have on my computer matches all of that (except that it's a *.img, not a *.bin). That must be the good dump.

Wow, you ran past the intro screen and the first screen of the credits. This is really glitchy and cool. Yes vote! And I also agree with Zeupar's suggested screenshot.

It must depend on the ripping program, since it seems there's only one version of the game. (Everywhere I found just calls it "SpongeBob SquarePants: Supersponge (USA)")

That's exactly what I get too. And I tried several different ISOs. The information I put about ISO sizes is from redump.org, and the MD5, SHA-1 and ISO file size match those of the ISO I have. I had assumed the OP used the good dump for his WIP, but I guess not.

OK, then I'll start working on Rock Bottom and Dutch Under (from a savestate-anchored movie). It looks like we might get close to subbing 6 minutes (!). Well, since jlun2's computer is broken, and you (NitroGenesis) are on vacation, I'll submit the improvement once I finish the game. Assuming that's OK with both of you; you should be able to edit the submission and add your own comments if you want to.

Great! I hope NitroGenesis hasn't left yet. Maybe I should PM him your WIP just in case he doesn't check this topic.

OK, here it is, NitroGenesis! It's done up to Jellyfish Fields. I'm really bad at optimizing Sandy's Park, especially with spring shoes on. It's most likely improvable, so feel free to save frames from it. EDIT: I was directing this at NitroGenesis since he will be doing Jellyfish Fields, but jlun2 is of course free to improve my input too. Sorry for not being clear.

back in the days i wanted to start one but couldnt find no iso-.- there could also be some glitches, i remeber falling through the floor in some leafblower level?!
Yeah, I don't think there are any plain ISOs on the Internet. They are usually found in a (compressed) archive (ex: ZIP/RAR/7z) file (good dump size is 30 MB, unpacked ISO is about 196 MB). I haven't finished the game, but I know World 2 has reef blower levels (maybe that's where the glitch happened). In World 1, if you are directly under a big jellyfish platform, ground pounding can move you atop the jellyfish and allow you to jump again. Also, I'm sure the World 1 boss (Mother Jellyfish) can be defeated very quickly by finding a good spot to catch jellyfish and rain them down on the Mother Jellyfish. I would definitely rather see/make a TAS of this game than the GBA port, due to this version's superior graphics and music, quicker boss fights, and because it's the original (as far as I know).

Isn't the Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World cartridge preferred anyway (less lag I believe)?

I can't get this to sync (I tried PSXjin 2.0.1 and 2.0.2). The emulator tells me this was recorded on v0.2.0, but I can't find that version. Could you maybe make an encode?

It's great to hear you're still working on this, jlun2! I'm off vacation now, so I'll check for improvements in your WIP and then start on The Carnival. NitroGenesis, if it would save you some trouble, I can do the jumping from The Carnival to Jellyfish Fields. EDIT: I managed to save 16 frames in Kelpazoic Jungle. It took a long time to make because every small (2-4 frame) improvement caused in an enemy later in the level to move in the way and kill SpongeBob. I still haven't done The Carnival yet, but I'll post the WIP for NitroGenesis once I've done up to Jellyfish Fields.
