I've been waiting for this submission. Awesome job, and thanks for providing a fair amount of information in the submission text for now. Yes vote!

Don't give up, remember your potential improvements and keep trying out new ideas! That 1 frame save each time the characters turn might open up more time saves: for example, better "luck"/RNG. A small, repetitive improvement like that is what allowed me to save 9 frames off a really short, mostly optimized movie once.

Actually, I watched it a few times and tested a few things, and I didn't notice anything that could be improved. It does look a little awkward, but it's because the enemies are in bad positions and you were either forced to wait or weren't able to zip all the time. I think this new file should be good to replace the current submission. I also made a video encode of it, if you want to include it in your submission text.

Now that you've finished your Pingu run, how is this movie going? Do you need any help finishing the second level?

Those sound like good goals for improving the published run, and it's great you're so motivated to improve it! I would suggest checking out the other thread for this game; it looks like nanogyth has somewhat recently posted a slight improvement WIP and some other information.

Awesome job! I thought there had to be a faster setup, though I didn't try scrolling the screen that far down. Yes vote! Here's an encode. (Please excuse the graphical glitches, they seem to be YouTube's fault): Link to video

Nice glitching, Genisto! I did not expect this game to be completable in under a minute. Voting Yes.

The glitching does help keep things interesting, though I'm afraid I agree with you that this might not make it to Moons. I'm voting Meh anyway.

The flickering in some minigames might be fixed in BizHawk, though this run doesn't sync at all on there from my testing. For the Bobsled Run level, could you have saved a few seconds by racing the opponents normally to the end and avoiding getting stuck on the wall?

There is a pause glitch in Paper Mario 64. Whenever you pause, there is a 6 second delay before the menu pops up. The framecounter displays the passing frames as red, meaning that they're lag frames?
Red frames are indeed lag frames, and BizHawk may be skipping through them for you automatically. Go to Config>Customize>Advanced and uncheck "Frame advance button skips non-input frames".

I have the same problem sometimes when trying to comment in this thread. I think the site, or your browser, may be logging you out before you can send the message. Try copying your message content and starting over by pasting it into a new message.

Sure, I'd like to help. I'm traveling and on my phone right now, but if you could PM me the sites, I'll check them out on my PC when I get a chance.

Good morning! You're welcome, and yes, you can send me a PM if you have any further questions. Unfortunately, I am not that Kirby; I don't do much work on other sites. But if you want to see some of the work I and others on this site do, you should check out the videos on here where we beat classic games fast, including some Zelda games! Regardless, I hope you have a good one as well. :)

It's safest not to mention the sites on here, thank you for being considerate of that. The sites may show what kinds of games they're running in the About section, Home page, or above the game you're playing if it says (EU) or (PAL). If the games are slower on that site and the owner is from Germany, it's likely that they are at the slower speed you're used to, PAL 50 Hz. The American versions must be the ones that seem sped up to you for that reason (those "faster" ones are the norm for me, haha). This site doesn't offer avatars, but you can use any image on the Internet by pasting a link to it in your Profile. You can find one by searching Google Images for an image based on your interests. Note that it will need to be below a certain size, as detailed in the blue text near the URL box. :)

Is it possible you're playing different versions of the games? Old school games ran slower on European (PAL) systems than on American (NTSC) systems. For example, here is a comparison of Sonic the Hedgehog on PAL (50 Hz) vs NTSC (60 Hz). It's possible that some sites present the games at PAL speed for nostalgic European gamers, and some at the faster NTSC speed for American gamers.

Okay, here's what you should do: 1. Open Halley Wars in BizHawk 1.9.4 and record a new movie, then stop recording. 2. Navigate to your Movies folder and open the .bk2 as an archive. (3. If using 7-Zip to open it, go to Tools>Options>Folders and set the working folder to Current.) 4. Inside the bk2 archive, select and open Input Log.txt in Notepad. 5. Outside the archive, open your bkm in another instance of Notepad, highlight all of the input lines and Copy them with Edit>Copy or by pressing Ctrl+C. 6. Go back to the open Input Log.txt, highlight everything and Paste the contents of your old bkm with Edit>Paste or Ctrl+V. 7. Go to Edit>Replace... and type |......|..| in Find What and .| in Replace With. Click Replace All. 8. Now type |. into Find What and |.|. in Replace With. Click Replace All. 9. Repeat this process with |U in Find What and |.|U| in Replace With. 10. Repeat this process with |.|......|p.| in Find What and S| in Replace With. 11. Save and close Input Log.txt. (If using 7-Zip, say OK to the prompt that comes up.) 12. Close the archive. You should now have a working Game Gear bk2!

Have you tried File>Movie>Import Movies? It contains a bkm>bk2 converter that may work with your Game Gear bkm. If not, you should be able to convert it manually to the new format. I've done so with a ColecoHawk movie using the Replace function in Notepad and Notepad++.

EDIT: TAS actually desynced, so I will have to spend quite some time redoing the end.
Or.... you can simply just use an input editor as well.
Unfortunately, for an RPG like this, different input can affect the RNG, changing up battles and even loading time lengths (what people mean when they say "9 frames lost to RNG"). Desyncs can be very unforgiving in this kind of game.

Sounds like it'll be even better now! Take your time working on the submission text, it'll be worth the wait to have everything clearly explained.

How cool! That reminds me of the glitched route for that track in MK64. Same general concept, it seems.

Awesome! It's too bad about the desync though. Let me know if you need any help resyncing it.

This game looks pretty cool, I'm surprised I haven't heard of it. It even has those classic Duke voices! Your TAS looks fairly good, though you might be able to go around some of the corners faster. At 4:37 for example, by sticking closer to the left wall and turning earlier, going diagonal to the next turn and then turning right as soon as you can, you should be able to save some movement time: (Green line is my suggestion.) If you think of how runners opt for the innermost lane on a track, or better yet, how race car drivers take diagonal paths through S-curves, that's about where I'm coming from.

I also followed the WIPs and am glad you saved Skatopia for the submission, it was worth the wait! The whole run was great, yes vote!
