Just popping in to ask if there are still any particular improvements to Dolphin that you think would help out with this.
Thanks for checking, but I'm pretty sure we're good. We've got our desync-proof Dolphin build that displays memory addresses for normal TASing as well as a debugger Dolphin which Masterjun uses to figure out how to manipulate tough RNG sections. We haven't run into any emulation problems yet, just some some minor graphical glitches that don't affect gameplay. If there was something you wanted to contribute that you think might be helpful, the Dolphin builds we're using are from the 3.5.x line, so unfortunately the improvements would have to be compatible with that branch.

Awesome job! I liked seeing you use all the known tricks and optimize everything too. Looking forward to the submission, keep going!

Since there is a good amount of support to do so (including from FractalFusion, the author of both runs), I've changed the MMX runs back, and added the Demonstration tag to the glitched password run, based on the guidelines for the Demonstration tag:
This can be used for... unusual goal choices (like walkathon)... the game must either not be completed (based on traditional definitions) or completed with a goal choice other than one of the standard categories
I feel this fits because the main trick used in the run is controversial and the run was intended to be a demonstration of how fast the game can be completed with the password glitch anyway. Also, to prevent confusion and the possibility of being wrong, I've changed Primorial's Pokémon Blue run's branch to "no memory corruption". Unless there are more runs that need to be fixed, that should leave the Super Metroid to deal with.

I love it! It now runs at the same speed whether you're playing casually, playing back a movie, or even have RAM Watch open. I'll have to try out those N64Hawk fixes sometime too; they sound great. Thank you, BizHawk coders!

Which sounds better, "password glitch" or "glitched password"? And should it be marked as a demonstration too (to exempt it from the rules that we decided on)? As for Primorial#soup's run currently marked "no buffer overflow", would "no memory corruption" be a simpler and more correct branch name to rule out item list glitches and overflow? EDIT: My bad, I meant Primorial's run, not MrWint's.

Wow, thanks! I'll edit the Movie Class Guidelines page to make the distinction clearer. EDIT: Done.

I think I see the difference. Mega Man is like a platform game, but shooting with the Mega Buster is an important part of gameplay, which makes it an action game too. Whereas with Mario, it's the platforming aspect that's emphasized, so it's just a platform game. Does that sound right?

So every game tagged as a Platform game should be tagged with "Genre: Action" as well?

As I understand it, the platform genre is a subset of the action genre. However, we have some movies that are only tagged with "Genre: Platform" and other movies that are tagged with both "Genre: Action" and "Genre: Platform". Which case is correct? Should all movies having the Platform tag be given an Action tag as well, or should all movies tagged as both have their Action tag removed?

Are the colors in the encode standard for this game? I thought GB colors are generally monochrome (grayscale).
I believe the colors are added by BizHawk to mimic how the game looks when played on the Game Boy Color. By the way, will this be the biggest obsoletion so far? 8 years and nearly 7 months?

You're welcome! And you're right; viewing any part of a thread with new posts will cause the whole thread to be marked read. (Just tested with page 10 of the BizHawk>Bug Reporting thread and refreshed the BizHawk section to find the new posts icon gone.)

I agree with everyone else; the hack isn't of the quality needed to be published here, and the TAS misses several known tricks that would make it faster. I have to vote No because I wasn't entertained, but I also don't think it should be published. But like hegyak said, don't give up! There are better hacks and official games that you can run that are easier to TAS too. Once you decide to start working on one, you should post your progress in the forums so others can help you make sure your TAS is as fast as it can be.

Okay, fixed all of the runs Radiant mentioned and added the "no save corruption" branch to Pokémon Blue by MrWint. What if the MMX glitched password run was tagged as a demonstration? Could we give it its own "Glitched Password" branch then?

I'd rather have this as the Game Objectives section because I think it's more descriptive of my actual objectives. I wouldn't be surprised if it was too late in the submission process to change it though. I'd also like to change the branch to "Adventure Mode", but again, probably too late.
It's never too late to edit your own submission. Go to your original submission page and look on the right side of the page for a link called "Edit". Clicking it will take you back to the page you saw when you first submitted the movie, and there you can edit your wording and add a branch name (and more).

Should the Green run have a branch name relating to the fact that it uses the Doko Kashira Door glitch, like the Executes Arbitrary Code run does? Or are we leaving the branch name alone completely? Patashu: The fast completion in MrWint's run is achieved by executing arbitrary code, which is a form of memory corruption. Thanks for another useful list, Radiant! I'll start working on fixing those now (though it'll take longer than usual since I'm on my phone). And thank you to everyone who's posted so far; opinions from the community are exactly what we needed to get this going. Please continue to post any ideas or concerns you might have!

He means it was previously posted in this forum. It's a really cool video though, thanks for posting it for us even though you didn't know someone already had.

Is there even a 3DS emulator yet?
Not yet, these are just suggestions of games to run when one is made. Super Mario 3D Land, Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, and the upcoming Kirby game!

I always thought they were classified as two different games, but I guess you're right. Well, since the Pokémon Yellow save corruption run is the true any%, we'll need to add branch names to both the Blue and Green runs. Since both of these movies forego save corruption, should we call Green "no save corruption" and Blue "no save corruption, no Doko Kashira Door glitch"? Or if that's too long, "no save corruption, no door glitch"?

I think there may be a misunderstanding here because not a lot of people know about the recently unobsoleted [950] SGB Pokémon: Blue Version "trainer escape glitch" by primorial_soup in 1:18:58.78. That's the movie we're thinking of changing from "less glitched" to "no buffer overflow". I think it's perfect as well, so I'll go ahead and change it. If anyone thinks of something more fitting, it can always be changed again later.
