I'm very happy you submitted this to the site. I watched it when it premiered so I'll just say when it's published, it'll get high entertainment and technical ratings from me. Incredible job, Hazel. Yes vote!

Hazel posted the TAS early, here it is: Link to video Absolutely mindblowing. Even the entertainment sections show a surprising level of control over the game. I will be rewatching this run many times until a newer one arrives. Thank you, Hazel!

That is so cool! Thanks TiKevin83! Is the console's 6:01.07 time just caused by delays in LCD on/off? It looks like I lose around a second to that before the title screen even comes up.

I enjoyed the trip down meme-ry lane. CD-i references, Do the Mario, and Lazors. Perfect! The game was full of surprises, but the run did drag on quite a bit. And as andypanther said, the game looks and sounds bad and it's unclear why you're allowed to multi-jump in some places but not in others. Because of this, I would not recommend it for Stars. It's between Yes and Meh for me, but I'll go with a weak Yes.

The Linux version should be TASable already since it uses a similar engine to Celeste.

What a cool idea for a TAS! Maybe someone (or I) can run Mario Party 8's single-player mode, Star Battle Arena too, that would have some similarly inventive solutions. The run was a fun watch, with some surprising strategies. Thanks to the fast text speed, it kept up a good pace. Voting Yes, great first run! Hope to see more from you. Especially GC/Wii, I love TASes of those games and there aren't enough of them yet, imo. I'm wondering if you should end input after the fanfare, at 21:37 when Toadsworth says "You're number one! Congratulations!" to let that message be the final screen. But it's not a big deal.

Awesome job on this, Malleo! I enjoyed the Twitch stream and I know I've said this before but this is the best TTYD TAS yet! Your determination to optimize and finish it is inspiring and I'll be sure to watch your Twitch VODs for 100% progress whenever I have some free time. Thanks for all the great GC TAS content over the years. This one is another Yes from me!

bizwhack 2.4.2 ... Bizpuck devs
BizHawk jokes didn't die, they were frozen alive until Nitro came back. Those spasming parakoopas and Cheep-Cheeps gave me a headache. I'm not sure if that could trigger epilepsy, but it triggered nausea for CoolHandMike. Maybe a warning in the movie description would be a good idea? I watched the whole thing, but I'm not sure I'd call it entertaining. Voting Meh.

Thank you for correcting me, illayaya. I saw the video on mobile and assumed he was showing an improvement comparison since he had been working on a WIP for some time. So his WIP is just sloppy, then? Thanks Challenger for that resynced file!

Chutacoacko Playz has been working on resyncing and improving the old any% WIP. Here's a comparison video between Chuta, and OGA & smns72's old WIP. Judging by that 30 FPS video, the new WIP looks to be around 208 frames (3.46 sec) faster. EDIT: I was mistaken. illayaya has more correct information below.

He's back, in pog form.
I totally read that as porg form. I'm not used to seeing Pog in lowercase. Good job improving your movie by so much, but this game is still boring and the music is grating. Anything after the 2 minute mark I had to skip forward through. Not your fault, it's just this game. Voting No, but congrats to you, Twisted Eye, and those speedrunners!

With the launch of HBO Max in the USA, almost all of the Ghibli films are now free with a streaming subscription! This is the first time this has ever happened in my country. All the movies listed on Studio Ghibli's Wikipedia page are included except for Grave of the Fireflies, though it also includes Nausicaa. This amounts to 21 movies. HBO Max supports profiles so it might be wise to share a subscription with friends to make the $14.99/month a little easier to justify.

Should the movie description note that this game mode was released less than 6 months before this run's publication? I think that could be a notable addition, like was done with this movie's description.

Nice job not only resyncing the movie but finding improvements too! I appreciated the supercut encode to clearly show where the gameplay was faster. Voted Yes.

Well, that's a shame, but I kind of assumed so after all this time, like you said. Would you mind uploading the .dtm to userfiles? This could help someone else learn the inputs and redo it.

it'd be better to start over again, on a more recent revision (5.0-2428 for this one).
While that one is over 3 years old already, I think anything in the 5.0 line is still acceptable. There's a Paper Mario TTYD TAS improvement currently being done on a modified version of Dolphin 5.0 (the very first 5.0).

This is not only a great improvement, but has a really nice submission text. I liked how you explained everything in detail so everyone can understand what's going on without having to look at previous submission texts. I didn't know what was happening in Terra Tubes until I read it. The new entertainment sections were great too, congrats on resyncing everything so no time was wasted. Yes vote!

Hi Angie, welcome to TASVideos. It is curious that no one has speedrun this game yet, maybe it's just one of those unknown little gems. It's good you completed a rough TAS of the game already, maybe your work will inspire someone to speedrun it. It's happened before. From what I've seen, this community doesn't like to rip maps for their TASes. There are other sites that are better at that. But if you just need to plan a route for a grid-based game, you can draw up something simple like this: This is a map I made for Solaria Round 1 based on your TAS encode. Gray tiles are floors, green are floors with flags, yellow are floors with hourglasses, and the rest is empty space. Despite very little detail, you can see what you need to collect, and gain a clear goal to run toward those flags. You can add enemy spawn positions to the map as well, and maybe arrows or lines depicting their path or range of motion. You'll need to think carefully about which paths to take. Because you chose a grid-based game, this shouldn't be very hard, and will usually come down to what saves time in the short run. This is unlike an RPG TAS where your immediate decisions also affect things far in the future. For example, in Solaria Round 3, you want to touch the edges of those bouncing balls and then angle yourself toward the next ball instead of running all the way through them and having to correct yourself later. If this game supports DualShock analog input, you may get even faster times by allowing your character to curve around corners. You might find the tips at Wiki: TasingGuide helpful as well.

In case Mukki sees this, a Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation run has been finished and published. Woops should be paid his $10 for finishing the run so the bounty can be marked as complete. Mukki hasn't visited the forum since 2012, so it's doubtful he'll return to clear the bounty, but not impossible. Maybe someone who knows his contact info could reach out to him.

Looks like it works fine in BizHawk 2.4.1. Make sure you're using the GLideN64 plugin on Pure Interpreter. It'll set this automatically if you go to Config>Profiles>N64 Tool-assisted speedruns. 2 players should definitely be used, it brings the time down quite a bit, even in RTA.

I was thinking of making a sort of theory TAS/LOTAD of this game.
I say go for it. It can be much easier to make a quick testrun as a first draft, than to start your highly optimized TAS and have nothing (in-emulator) to compare it to. Also, got4n and I aren't working on this anymore, so it's all yours if you want it!

Games I'd like to see TASed, that I've thought of so far. It's a shame there aren't more Linux ports of Windows games; libTAS seems to be compatible with a lot of recent releases. Windows:
  • The newer Shantae games - Should make for just as much entertaining action as the run of the only currently TASable game in the series.
  • Hello Neighbor - Lots of physics abuse will make for a short run, even shorter and glitchier than RTA runs.
Linux:
  • Assault Android Cactus - A twin-stick shooter with dazzling graphics, and multiple characters each with two unique weapons. Runs in Unity 5 and would make for an enjoyable and varied run. (Cactus is an assault android, that's why it's named that.)
  • Golf with Your Friends - A 3D minigolf game that, despite the name, is fastest with one player. With enough power on your shot and a slight elevation change, you can skip large parts of courses. Not sure if libTAS can run 3D games yet.
  • Guacamelee! Gold Edition - A Metroid-style game with a roughly half-hour speedrun. Could work in libTAS, as it's 2D and has low system requirements. Also has a Windows version that supports XP, if Hourglass testing is needed.
  • Mark of the Ninja - Stealth platformer. There are original and remastered versions with different system requirements, not sure how they differ in terms of run content.
  • Streets of Rage 4 - The newest game in the series just released on many platforms including Linux. Uses the FNA/MonoGame engine like TowerFall, Celeste, and Axiom Verge, so it should run in libTAS.

I thought the new glitch was impressive, the optimizations were well-done, and the movie was just as entertaining as the published one, which I've gone back and rewatched a few times now. I voted Yes!

In the fight with Giygas, 4000 damage by Ness alone would be faster.
Did you do this in the current run already, or is this a possible improvement for a future run? It looks like Ness is doing all of the attacking already, but at 385 HP of damage per turn.

Do you think the changes were minor enough that we can give this publication the "Console verified" flag? Or should we hold off until emulation improves to where the input file plays on GBP without edits?
