Oh, I'm not too sure about that. MWL edited his post but had mentioned that TSA had planned to record a video that showed his strategy once he got to that point in his segmented run. But he retired.

I guess TSA will never post his race video that he promised ages ago. What a sellout.

The problem is that nothing stops one from cropping places with watermark. Another good solution would be title like on music channels, popping from the bottom in a few seconds semi-transparent thing with text ^^
I think our main goal is to clarify whether a video is tool assisted or not to a random user. If they see a run on a site like youtube with no proper comments (or if they dont' read the comments), the user should be able to gather that the run is tool-assisted or not, based on warning, and maybe watermarks. Button presses may or may not prevent this, but I'm sure it would get a suspecting user's attention: ("hey the <,^,> characters are being pressed in a pattern I recognize") If someone forcefully removes a watermark, it's tough to do anything. So I would just throw those cases out of the window, and hope for the best (isolated incidents, few and far between). Sorry for the warpish post, I need to wrap up my thoughts.

Likewise. Hmm for some odd reason, I thought it should be relatively trivial to include button presses during the avi dump of a run. Intuition would say to just display the input and capture the run. However the following exception leads me to believe that it's not quite that simple... For N64 runs, the button presses are not embedded in the viewing window, so integration might not be as easy as first thought.

I suppose the best "relevant" watermarking would be to encode the video with the button presses included (is that possible)? It's relevant to the run, but can also be obtrusive to the viewer.

I have a theory. My theory is that the order of preference in games corresponds to the order they've been played.
Maybe if you are 13 years old... and have a weak mind. My favorite Zelda(s) game is ALTTP and Majora's Mask, and I played OOT before both. My favorite Mario game is SMW, and I played SMB2 (US) first. My favorite DKC game is DKC2, and I played DKC1 first. Favorite Mario Kart game? SMK, yes I played it first. 1/4, great theory ;).

Using IE6 and WinXP... this page: http://tasvideos.org/776M.html I get an "error at line 69." I also get an error on line 57 on the front page. If I direct link to the submission (above) I get no error.

You should have stayed on IRC longer. I answered that question right before you left. You can visit gf as an adult and a kid. If you play the game as they intended, visitng her as a kid, you get a spin attack+magic, and as an adult, you get a magic upgrade. If you skip the kid portion, I'm sure you'll get some sort of magic anyways. This is confirmed by talking to a Zelda guru (fiercelinkmaster) and by looking at my official Zelda players guide.

Try Rice's Graphic Plugin, that's the one I used and I didn't get any desyncs.
Wow, the solution is really that simple? Now I can watch wips! Thank you!!! Edit: I was able to watch most of the movie, but I still got the desync at Jabu Jabu's.

Haven't played back the wip, but I'm quite certain you don't need any upgrades for the oot dive. You take the owl and initiate the ganondorf cutscene? I wonder if it will start immediately? If it doesn't, what happens if you superslide into the cutscene? If possible, please play up to the hyrule field, and skip the owl, and then sync up your position with the old run. Then AKA can try hex editing the parts together. I'm not optimistic that this part is hex-editable, due to the time issue. Time is spent when you watch the owl fly away, and this could randomize other parts of the run.

Guano, have you sorted out that desync at the start of DC, since me and several other reported that...

No desync here, although the savestate you provided does not work correctly so it will if you use that to view it.
And since it was encoded, I assume the desync issue is gone. However, one should try to hex edit the owl. It's either now, or never.

Upthorn, mrz's run is merely a test run I think. He also has an accepted (yet to be published) SDW run, so it's a safe bet that mrz definitely knows about these techniques. The last I heard, mrz and skamastaG were going to team up on this tas, as it's a hefty job. <skamastaG> so mrz, you still want to make a 2nd reality with me <Mrz_> yes.. <skamastaG> or you wanna fly solo? <Mrz_> ive already finished world 1! <skamastaG> i'm just making a walkthrough <Mrz_> ok <Mrz_> i wanna do a minilamist though :( But it's still up in the air.

Well, the only bottles you can get are talon's, cucco lady's, and ruto's message in a bottle (you better rub me the right way). Ruto's is out of the question, unless we can somehow get the bottle w/out a scale upgrade and get to LH fast, Talon is a lazy bastard, and KV's needs cucco collection. KV seems to be the logical choice, especially since you are close to KV.

It's probably best if you make a test-run of the game first. Just so everyone can see if the game is ok to publish for this site. A test run shouldn't be fully optimized, but try not to make any obvious errors. In otherwords, it's a noob's TAS. Even Kitsune can do it. Zing Zing!

To me, 100% has ALWAYS meant collecting every item. That is my definition.
Including extra heart pieces, ones that shouldn't be in the game? For example in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM8FoR6uot4 Kazooie has overflowed the heart counter. Should we get those too?

Yeah, yeah. All I ever hear is people GRIPING about the 100 Skulltulas. Sure, it'd be boring to watch someone using some damn glitch for them. And if you define 100%, it means collecting every item, aside from all of the Rupees and such trivial stuff. Why is it people ask what 100% means, when it's so easy to answer it on their own?
1) Skulltullas: You see, skulltullas are collectable. Once you collect the tokens, they don't come back. But the prize for 100 skulltullas is worthless, and is not even a collectable item. So what is 100%? All skulltulla tokens? Half of them? 2) Dungoun maps and compasses: In dungeons you also have other collectable items that you don't need. You have the dungeon map, and compass. Collecting those could hinder A LOT of potential interesting 100% sequences breaks. Should those be collected, if they make the game arguably more boring? 3) Small Keys In dungeons, there are a few cases where keys can be skipped due to sequence breaks. Should they be collected, as they are defined as "collectable items" and do not respawn anywhere? Defining what is 100% is less trivial than you think.

That depends on how you define 100%. IMO, getting all 100 skulltullas in the game is very boring. Getting 50, however (for the last real upgrade) could be entertaining. Either way, route planning for a tas would be a bitch.
