Tellah also needs it for the sisters fight to do enough dmg to kill the fat one in 2 shots, otherwise he doesn't do enough dmg.

Finished with first little go at the Sisters fight. Personally I think it's a work of art, but thats because this strategy is extremely convoluted... about 30 seconds faster real time and 2min 40sec faster in-game time compared to test run. This puts me about 3min of gain away from earning a sub 3hr run.

Bad news. File updated, but Possible savings of approximately 990 frames are up for grabs here. I managed to save 380ish of them. You'll notice that I take a back attack and have Cid take most of his hp in dmg. Then he kills himself before the Dark Elf can start casting his long chain of spells. The full savings is 1135 if you didn't need to do anything to get the auto-death. The best method I could come up with involves deequipping the iron shield from kain during the D.Mist fight. Then during the last encounter before the Dark Elf, manipulate a first strike (unless it's a double mage fight), and unequipping the hammer and equipping the shield. Run away. And then fight the Dark Elf and immediately die. This method would save 990 of the 1135 frames. This is the best option that I could come up with.

I believe an improvement would require that it be faster than the published run. The published run is about 860ish frames faster on floor one. See it here. http://tasvideos.org/940M.html

Ok, this would be quite rude to the viewers but wouldn't you gain time by naming all the characters the empty string, that is - no letter at all? It would save frames in loads of dialogboxes, right? This is however very easy to spot so I guess it can have been thought about before, but wasn't wanted perhaps.
This is the case if the text scrolls letter by letter. Can't remember how Chrono Trigger does it, but a game like Lufia 2 where it's letter by letter, this would save tons of frames throughout the entire movie. This is unlike FF2 where the scroll is line by line (and you would have to go around and find the guy to talk to, to change your name anyway), where it's much less worth it, if at all worth it. I have to disagree with Saturn's sentiment about it looking stupid. Dialogue is passed by so quickly in a TAS that no one will care. And everyone who would watch the TAS would know all the charactors names and not be confused. Anyone new who might watch the TAS just because wouldn't know the difference.

Updated the file on the WWW under each of my posts. Had to get rid of the save/reset before the cave because it caused too many fights in the tower of zot. Also tried to do some save/resets after the cave, but was useless. This one also grabs the ether in the cave because of a changed strategy that I never tried in my test runs. This is now 64 frames slower than the test run because of the ether, which took about 308 or so frames to grab, so it's ok since all will be regained upon the new strategy that requires the ether. Also about 50 seconds faster in-game.

Going to stick my hand in the hornet hive here and address all the arguments I see against publishing movies too quickly: Not enough people have a chance to watch it and comment on it. I don't see how the fact that a movie is published or not negatively affects the audience's ability to watch or comment on it. In fact, publishing it quickly would achieve the opposite effect. There isn't enough time to evaluate it and check for mistakes. Even if an improvement is discovered a few minutes after publication, is there a problem with simply obsoleting or canceling the current movie and publishing the improvement? This doesn't seem to be either a common or important enough problem to warrant delaying an obviously publishable movie. It's unfair to the less popular movies. Less popular movies by nature take longer to evaluate than the popular ones; a movie which should be published shouldn't be delayed because another movie which should be published is taking longer to assess. An established maximum workbench time would help in cases where unpopular movies stay in there for far longer than they should, but a minimum would only serve to hurt the more popular movies. Giving a minimum amount of time in the workbench would help standardize publications. This one has some validity. Standardization for the sake of standardization when the movie in question is obviously publishable material, however, is not something I agree with. Of course, this is merely a matter of opinion. But I digress. You guys are awesome.
I agree with everything in this post. We are awesome =D

What the hell?! This was published too quickly! I didn't have a chance to watch it and vote on it. I didn't get to watch it and point out all the mistakes and be a total douchebag!

Ugh...published too quick. I haven't voted yet. Now I'll never be able to watch it. Stop publishing movies before I can watch them. This is rediculous!

Cry cry cry, bitch bitch bitch... thats all you imputent bastards are doing. Suppose we just shouldn't have made the damn thing at all? Would that have made you happier? If not shut the fuck up! Edit: And to everyone complaining about fast publications, if you don't like how the publishers decide what gets published, why dont you help them by encoding the runs yourself. These people do TAS's and judge and publish these runs because they want to. They dont get paid.

Get off your high horses and help rather than complain. Otherwise you haven't room to complain.

I spend quite a large deal of time optimizing on Final Fantasy 2, so I completely disagree with what mmbossman said. I spend many hours for every boss fight. I'm currently at about 1hr 17 1/2min and have almost 86,000 rerecords. Because of how much time goes into the run, I need to take breaks from TAS'ing it every few months. However, platformers aren't affected by as much randomness as FF2 is, so they would generally take less to optimize. Until you start playing Yoshi's Island...then you get 2 hours into it and want to commit suicide.

There are actually movies that get rejected for raising the movie time to lower the in-game time. http://tasvideos.org/763S.html randompie guy beat me to it http://tasvideos.org/1686S.html

At least your team has won a cup. I'm a Phoenix Coyotes fan, and even when they were the Winnipeg (sp?) Jets they didn't win one. At least this year the west conference is looking tight enough that the coyotes might make the playoffs...and thats all i can ask. Our team is full of up and coming rookies and a couple of vets. Next year indeed.

RPG's stopped being good when they became 3-D. This is coincidental, not consequential.

heh, if we're talking in general any RPG, then let me append my list Chrono Trigger (which you said you already played) Earthbound Lufia 2 Secret of Evermore as you can see, Deign likes the SNES age of RPGs
