Oh yeah, I forgot that Wii TASes can't start from a save file because they will desync every time. Have you considered TASing any other first-person shooters on GameCube/Wii?
I read somewhere that it's possible to include the memcard at the start of the movie. It's actual for GC TASing, right? No, but I tried some third person shooters, like RE4, Dead Rising and Trigger Man. Also tried The House of the Dead: Overkill, but it's a rail shooter. I'm interested in TASing Serious Sam: Next Encounter, but I can't find a memory card with all levels completed to test glitches shown in 1st and 2nd encounter speedruns and build the TAS route. The problem is the movement, especially in a game like Red Steel. It's so complex to follow the shortest routes!

Does this game let you skip cutscenes if you play after beating the game? If so, a NewGame+ TAS would be far better to watch.
I'm out of ideas. Dolphin seems to read the memory card, but, when I playback the input file, I create a new profile again and give it a saveslot, whatever if I delete Wii folder from DolphinEmulator or not. Even if it works, my verification movie will also get out of sync somewhere at the beginning This franchise is beyond our influeince for now =) Passing by...

About a month ago, I got a wish to TAS a first person shooter, but finding a short one was tricky. I stopped at Red Steel because it has the most classic style of gameplay: a simple hallway shooter where you go from point A to point B. Besides shooting, there are sword duels where you dance with your Wiimote. They are crappy, but simple. Link to video The game is not popular at all. Most videos are in 480p or even 360p and have not many views, so the future TAS won't attract much people, only if you want to beat another game. I've already TASed first 3 missions and a small part of 4th, but the movie desyncs by the end of mission 2. The playback isn't correct even if you load it from a savestate, so it's not possible to TAS the whole game well. The game has plenty of loading screens and unskippable cutscenes, so the whole TAS may take more than 2 hours. Game ID: REDE41 MD5: df682f4bcf92c0bfdef6f02ec0ef2247 Here is my input file: User movie #49973328122807715. If you have much time, you can try to play it back. No major glitches were used though they would sighnificantly accelerate the TAS. I tried to find something, but got only this: Link to video Seems like it's possible to clip a single wall. I can't go in-bounds from the other side or shoot someone. Anyway, it's something like a warning topic. Let's wait for a better TASing tools in Dolphin.

So, the objective is to TAS the game in 3 days? Everyone will know the game name when the competition starts?

In Leonardo's story on the (first?) Alley level, is there any particular reason you stood in place a little while after getting the club? Also was Hun hit on the first frame? Looked like he spawned in a bit before you attacked.
Was messing around. Hun's spawn is predictable. I could kill the mobs even faster. In my fail-case, if I jumped earlier, Hun would jump too, that is not acceptable for me. So, I spent a moment to make him approach. Another fail: he hits the ground, but it's still better than jumping. Nevertheless, I could hit him only 3 times before the car bumps him. An axe would be a better weapon here. The second jump was made to make him fall at the car. If I hit him faster, he makes a flip and avoids the bump. You'll find more of these cases during the whole TAS. I just let you know that I did the best available strategies. Well, excepting few.

I read that in wiki, but missed it in mind. Well, at least libTAS provides savestates for those games that doesn't have them if you want to complete a difficult event in a game while a regular walkthrough though I don't think it will work.

Not a wide list to play. Is there any 3D games compatible with libTAS? Does Steam Play work?

*Bump* That actually was tas tools for recording input and playback, but no save states yet. I believe slow motion was added iirc. Recently initial scripting support was added with tas tools in mind for the near future.. although the same thing was said about psp emulator years ago and it never happened.. As well as pcem being ported to bizhawk despite no work being done. I don’t get it. Although save states for never consoles are complicated and much bigger which concerns desyncs bound to happen. As well as the necessity for at least a terabyte hard drive.
The newer console is TASed, the more desyncs you get. Dolphin emulates GameCube and Wii just briliantly and offers the needed tools for TASing. Why do so many games throw desyncs at us? Most doesn't work as planned. I have doubts the savestates is the only problem we face.

Can you get into that position without the setup? Or does it absolutely require those movements?
By my small experiece I can say it's possible to go OOB if you have the right speed and angle. These clips are something like "sliding" along the wall that allow to get inside some edges. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. It's possible to bypass the clip if you have found the position and angle, but decided to get back a little in order to get a better run-up. Maybe it depends on lags, who knows!

It is recommended by the submission instructions that you include the ISO checksum of whatever game you submit for Dolphin movies. If you are not sure how to do this, go to the individual game properties in dolphin, go to info, click "Compute" next to the MD5 Checksum and then copy and paste what is in there into your submission text. EDIT: Also about how much time do the speed/entertainment tradeoffs cost?
Done. Not that much. All characters excepting Splinter have time-based stages where you play until the time is over, or stages where you have time to mess around waiting for the main enemy to spawn. So, the highlight about speed/entertainment tradeoffs still remeains. I also tried to make trainings entertaining too (1-2 stages after performing combos given below), especially for characters with bad combo sets. If I complete Dojos, Shredders' Palaces and Back Alleys with 1-on-1 objectives by using a single combo (fastest time), I'd improve about 20 secs. About 15 secs can be improved if I correct my mistakes, and about 50 secs by better manipulations if I successfully perform the fastest strategies to kill the crowds (not 1 by 1). You decision will be fair anyway. The case is, I'm not going to TAS this game ever again and I doubt anybody will take it. It's not a game worth spending time on TASing and this community is stuck in ancient games! I just took the best goal set, so nobody wouldn't ever need to TAS it again, only if someone will ever create a "First 4000" topic.

I'm out of ideas what to do. I've already TAS 7 campigns of 10 and got a headache with 8th. Just watch this! Link to video Who knows this kind of problem? Which tools do publishers use? It may be not critical for them to make an encode or I'm mistaken? All the movie syncs well in native resolution, in 1080p, with antialising, without it. It's the first problem I can't solve. This 8th campign just refuses to be dumped! Neither 1080p nor native resolution handles it. How it happens that dumping causes desyncs?? Here are my configs.

Not a thing, unfortunately. However, it's still helpful in situations when extra turning would be slower

Difference is simple for games of that era: you have more enemies and they have more health.

Now, let's deal with the final boss in your TAS. It should make sence anyway. I'm looking for neither extra player points nor additional nickname mentions. Instead of it, try to improve your TAS yourself! Maybe, Spikestuff will do that for you if he is satisfied with your input =) Personally, I don't find it bad. All is through the frame advance. The final boss' HP is hidden under RAM address 2BD8 (at least, it works for "USA, Europe" version of Dark Arena). Having this address in RAM Watch or RAM Search will show his health at the moment. While TASing the game, go to Tools and choose RAM Watch. Then choose Files -> Open... Download this file User movie #49391617752546579 and choose it. The default directory is Bizhawk/Tools After that, you'll see the address. Alternatively, you can go to Tools and choose RAM Search. Then do what is shown in the screenshot: choose Specific adress, enter 2BD8 and press Search. Good luck. The tactic is simple. Find a spot, shoot at the boss and see if your fireballs reach him. If the address value changed, the game has registered your hit. It's not essintional even to go inbounds. Just make sure all your fireballs deal damage and you attack him at first possible frame.

Wow! Just in time! I was following your speedruns and even did a short TAS of Serious Sam Advance (i'll join you, if you will TAS the whole game). I'll check later, but I think some of your clips are slow. Final boss can be improved, of course. We have to deal with the ending first. Since, you're getting OOB through the whole game, the only difference is shooting at boss for longer time. I've tested this thing: on hard difficulty we must find additional ammo on the way to the boss since it's not enough to kill him with eqiupment lying near the start point only. The framerate doesn't seem to drop of playing on hard comparing to easy (1 input frame, then 3-4 lagged frames). The only difference between endings is the text: easy - you technically die and can't escape; medium - you escape being barely alive; hard - everyone is dead and you escape freely. The deal is, what is acceptable on judge's opinion? Should we separate TASes with "Bad ending", "Good ending", "Best/true ending" or TAS the game for only once? Though the lags are predictable, they might not suit the input if we copy the input from 1 TAS to another or the same one, so TASing the game on different difficulties fastly might be impossible. But, it's ideas for now. I'm voting Yes!

The moment of my life! I couldn't imagine someone will TAS the whole game. First steps were done by MTA, who TASed first 4 maps in 2011-2012. It impressed me and I decided to TAS the whole game drawing on current speedrun technics. In 2014, I submitted this: #4267: Dimon12321's N64 Doom 64 in 41:22.45 It was tearred down, but I had impressed many people anyway. Later, I decided to reTAS the game on Be Gentle! with Graviton together, but I dropped it. In 2015, MTA and Graviton attracted me to TAS the whole game again. Sadly, our team lasted for only 2 weeks if I'm not mistaken. The result is this: User movie #22952445841349675. A pair of maps were TASed by IcySpeedruns in 2016, but it seems to be a fun work. And now, in 2018, Headshot is submitting a great work that we all haven't managed to do! It is colourful headshot to my old submission! I'll delete my encode when your TAS is published. I think, your TAS automatically worth an award! I'm still impressed of how fast you are beating the game though I know that Doomguy moves faster than in any other port and I'm really shocked how long you've been running with 1 HP kinda I forgot it's TAS. The game is pretty dark and I don't think in-game brightness even work. So, for those who hasn't watched the video yet, I'd recommend to download the Bizhawk, the ROM and watch it with increased emulator brightness. Also I vote for publishing a brighter TAS since some people may complain about the game is so dark. I have only one question. Did my TAS inspired you to make this run? What inspired? BTW, Doom 64 was my first TAS too. Yes vote from me! Let me hug you guys!!!
